Liverpool were only able to pull off those signings by selling big and the Swiss ramble did a good piece on their finances. Unless they sell one of their stars for big money, they're not going close to 120m euros. With Chelsea, sure Abramovich might decide to bankroll this one signing, but again, this spending spree is down to the huge fee they got for hazard and 0 spend in the last financial year. They would need to shift a lot of players to finance it if Roman doesn't just pump the money in. Not to mention, there's a strong chance most clubs make a loss next year, due to stadiums being empty for most of the year.

Real will probably go for Mbappe, Bayern wouldnt spend that sort of money when they're looking at CHO. Barca maybe if Messi goes - which is unlikely, but by a lot of accounts they're after Lautaro. Juve are going to make heavy losses this year. You're not left with a lot of options who can spend that sort of money. I genuinely think we're probably going to be the only ones able to pay close to what Dortmund are looking for next season as well.
This is my assessment of possible competitors for the next summer window:

-Liverpool need to address their AFC problem. By selling one of Mane/Salah they could solve this, and rejuvenate at the same time by signing the hottest British player. Sounds like a win-win to me
-Real will go for Mbappe, but he alone won't suffice. Their hot Brazilian winger prospects aren't any more than decent.
-Barca needs a high caliber signing after Messi's departure. That could be one of Liverpool's wingers, or they might eye Sancho.
-Chelsea have a deep squad, and a Sugardaddy who found his spending mojo again. If they manage to sell 2 or 3 no longer wanted players next summer, and focus on him a their only signing, they can definitely get this financed.

I’m scouring your profile for it but coming up empty.
There was a mocking meme doing rounds yesterday evening after Sancho scored. It showed a grim-faced Ed, with a huge Utd scarf wrapped around his neck. How anyone could think that pic was taken in Duisburg is beyond me

Yep. It’s over. I was convinced we’d pay but it looks like Dortmund won’t even accept instalments.

I don’t blame us for not wanting to pay €120m up front in this climate. Let’s move on and get a couple more players (Sarr, Regullion) in.

I think it's over too but still they would accept guaranteed instalments just not addons, I do admire these ITK's who probably genuinely believe that a bid is going to go in tonight but don't see it myself

Why would we buy Sarr? Going to cost at least 40m and is barely mid table quality

Just another shitty transfer window. Thanks, Ed.

It’s important that the club makes a statement to allow the manager and players to move on.

Ole should get FULL support of the fans this season after this fiasco. If Ed Woodward is too fecking clumsy in the transfer window to have a plan, execute the plan (I.e. No Sancho by x date and price, okay, Grealish, etc.) under no circumstances should he be allowed to keep his job. Period.

 As if!

The “would you sack or keep Ole” thread will explode at halftime in the first game if we’re not 3-0 up.

Agreed. We were promised a rebuild, Ole was promised one. Ole wanted Sancho last summer, didnt get him. He wanted a RW didnt get one. Ole wanted Haaland, didnt get him, wanted Bruno didnt get him..

What did Ole do? nothing went on about his job and said okay, you want CL, I will get you CL, got CL and now the club is failing him.

I dont care if anyone is Ole in or Ole out, it is clear he is not getting the backing he needs.

At the end of the day, Ole will get the sack if the team isnt doing well. Which is the frustrating bit.

Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Everton...have all invested considerably. Even Dortmund who is refusing to sell Sancho invested on Jude with no problem in this very summer. Aren’t those teams exposing Woodward and the Glazers’s lies?

You say they can spend money but we, the supposedly biggest club in the world, cannot do it because we might face danger financially? I don’t buy it. If anything, the COVID happening has provided Woodward and the Glazers with the perfect excuse to tighten the purse string.

Your last sentence of we have lost big players before so it’s no big deal... I’m not sure how you can come to such conclusions. For a team like Liverpool or City, or even us back in Fergie days, it might be true. But for a team which have been in decline for 7 years like us, every potential big signing is crucial. City got those crucial signings Silva, Aguero, Yaya, Kompany...through the line and look where that got them. We can’t afford another Hazard situation with Sancho. It will truly cement us as a mid-table club with no ambition for the next decade.
There are several issues here; 1) they have invested DVB. What it seems you're saying is they can't invest an amount that might endanger liquidity. To that I wonder at what point payments (CL and PL) arrive in the financial cycle, whether they sell players and how many people sign up for the reduced price TV from the hundreds of millions of fans.. it's only 50p a week.. cash upfront? They're acting like they have a liquidity issue and when the accounts come out they can explain how they're managing it. 2) Can they spend 120 euro from cash reserves and without going into extra short term loans... is there a guarantee of increased return on that risk.. the simple answer is no.. not without 50p per week. We're not buying season tickets, shirts, pies etc. If anything people are beginning to live without football...

I forget; financial rules in the US are different than the UK

The most frustrating part of your last statement isn't even about unfairness to Ole, but that the refusal to back managers, followed by the shifting of blame onto managers for poor performances, leads to the extreme instability at the club which has hurt us the most since SAF retired. That cycle is why Ole took over a team full of leftovers from LVG and Mourinho's time here, who did not fit the style of play or culture that he wanted to instill. And if Ole gets the sack this year after a lack of investment, it'll be the same story with the next manager. That is how to ensure that we spend decades in the wilderness akin to Liverpool.

It is the same cycle over and over again. It is so predictable...

So has that been the issue the entire time? Not the installment plan, agent fees, waiting for bonuses to kick in, etc. We are willing to do a deal rising to €120M but they just don’t want to include any add-ons needed to reach that figure?

Bale on loan i'm telling you. That's where this is all heading. We will be priced out of Sancho this summer so we will try and get Bale on loan with Madrid covering some of the wages. Maybe then go back in for Sancho next summer.

I just don't see us spending 108m on him when cash is so evidently tight so unless Dortmund drop their fee I think it's dead in the water for now.
Looks like I called it.

I still think we're gonna get him now, but if it drags on until next summer I'd still consider us favorites for his signature if we make top 4. The only other realistic destination for him in my opinion would be Chelsea, but I don't think they'll be any more attractive neither more willing to pay that much than us.

Well I did see a tweet yesterday suggesting that the reason Dortmund don't want addons is because they accepted that from Barca as part of the deal for Dembele and still haven't received anything from them

It’s sad you guys can’t accept that we are not getting Sancho this summer. It’s like watching a monkey swallow a hand grenade.

Of all those clubs you mentioned, only Chelsea have spent more than £60m (and that’s gross, not even net!) . Chelsea are in exceptional circumstances this summer having not spent anything the previous January or July AND have a sugar daddy.
Covid is definitely making ALL clubs bar Chelsea more cautious. Donny cost us £35m and we’ve got nothing back, so we are in line with those clubs you mentioned.

For any muppets still in the game:

Says negotiations still ongoing. Bale noise is to put pressure on Dortmund.

He’s the Norway reporter who is close to Ole’s people?
Yep, he reported Ole appointed as interim manager before anyone if I remember correctly. Supposedly, Ole shares a fair amount of info with Norwegian journalists.

This guy also said we're in for Thiago. Gone cold on that one now
He only said that United have contacted his agents and would like to sign Thiago.

Overall, I would trust Fredrik more than anyone bar Romano this window. With the concurrent news that Spurs are the ones really pushing for Bale, I think Fredrik is likely right on this one.

All hard evidence points to the Glazer family valuing lining their pockets over the club's on field success. If you cannot see this then there is no point discussing further.
Your point was we don't spend to compete and when I pointed out that we broke several records and still hold the British transfer record, you shifted the conversation. When I pointed that Covid situation is tricky for us, you are now on "hard evidence" that you don't want to give but somehow expects me to see your point. Anyway good day to you.

Every source that says we are still in negotiations is only doing one thing, click bait.

We all know, if United pay 120m Euros he will be sold, its nothing new.

We all know United will not pay that upfront.

It's a bit boring that everyone is jumping onto every source that says Dortmund will sell, negotiations are on-going.

We all know the situation is 120m or bye.
