My birthday is around the PS5 release date. Anyone know the best places to try and secure a preorder in the UK? Scalpers will probably have them all wrapped up when preorders open but worth a shot.
Same as I posted in Xbox thread.

Amazon - Probably get most stock. Returns are good, these are new consoles so faults can occur. Also might do midnight delivery.

ShopTo - Use DPD and they already let you preorder a preorder slot. Same with Base.com

Argos - Chance they do midnight delivery like they did with one x. Only downside is unlike the above two you’d probably have to pay the money straight away. Amazon and ShopTo charge you when item is going to be delivered.

Simplygames - They use DPD. But they are smaller compared to the other three, so stock will be limited.

Supermarkets - They get decent stock, but don’t know how pre order system works as never preordered a console from them. I assume you just queue up on the day and chance it. As these supermarkets want you buying some shopping with the console, so bigger queue more chance of that happening.

GAME - They will get the biggest stock with Amazon. But they will also probably force stupid bundles on people if stock is limited. You will have to pay deposit.

PC world/Currys/ - Never used any of these for consoles, so no idea. But from how their websites work if you preorder online then you will have to pay straight away. They use DPD. Should get decent stock as they a big group.

Very- Never used them. But they always on HUKD for their buy now pay later schemes with discounts.

Smythys Toys - This is more a place for Elvis.

I am buying one, so me and my good buddy Elvis can play some apex legends.
As Europe and North America will be initial focus, dont think i have any chance of getting one. Mostly 6 months down the line i guess. Will probably invest in TV , as my current TV doesnt do 4k 120fps.

Also the marketing manager had a interview with Geoff Keighley few months back, where he said that they will give notice when preorders start. I’d be surprised right after tomorrow they start preorders. It should hopefully be similar to MS, where they just give the date when preorders start.

Make sure you download the apps of places you are going to preorder from as backup. From my many experiences with preordering iPhones at launch the app tends to be faster than the site if it’s slowing down. Have all your payment details there already, so you don’t have to go through that process which will slow you down and push you further down the queue.

Going to probably get the Digital only version if the specs are the same. Saves my kids destroying the discs.

It’ll be £500 for the disc and £400 for digital. There is NO way they can get down to £249 to match the S and why should they? That is a console with more caveats than just the disc drive being removed.
I wouldn’t even be surprised to see higher numbers than that - Sony absolutely smashed Microsoft this gen and there are many brand loyal gamers to whom it’s Playstation or nothing. They have the first party edge so they will think that entitles them to charge a premium - whether that’s true in reality or not, I guess we’ll find out!

Really? You think they will charge more?
Of course they'll charge more than that 250 Xbox. That is not a next gen console.

Microsoft haven't officially announced a price for the X.

I have a friend who works at Sony, he has no official information but even he thinks the disc one will be at least 500. He may be wrong but I do think it'll be in that ball park.

It’d be one mighty risk to charge more, the trend seems to be that the cheaper console seems to do better from what I’ve seen. Ps4 was cheaper and 360 was cheaper.

I think charging 500 quid for the ps5 is a big risk and I see them matching it at least.

I believe it was an Amazon page that has since been removed. That probably will be the price but not official yet.

You also have to bear in mind that MS subsidise the loss on Xbox through other avenues. They'll probably sell at a loss. Sony don't necessarily have that luxury.

I see what you’re saying but they can’t beat Microsoft for price. They simply don’t have a product that can match the S and I think they can get away with a £50 difference between the X and PS5 - they have the completely redesigned controllers too which I reckon are gonna be £70 on their own.

even though I am saying £499 and £399, I am very much doubting that £399 price because removing a disc drive should not save £100 when it comes to manufacturing so if they do get down to that price, you can bet they’ll be making a loss on those machines - the only reason I think they’ll do it is because they know all purchases will come from the PS Store.

Oh yeah I agree I don’t think they go anywhere near 250, I’m talking about the disc.

I think they will at least match the Xbox though on the disc version.

I didn't realise. My mistake. I have no itention of getting an Xbox because I have a gaming PC with gamepass so makes any MS console redundant to me.
Yeah it’s literally on their website. No worries though man.

Not for me. Once Sony can dictate prices we'll see digital versions of games sky rocket. Plus the backwards compatibility means I don't have to sell all my Ps4 games .
Didn't think about that, good point.

Like I said, any MS console is redundant to me so don't keep up with all news for Xbox. When the S was announced they hadn't officially announced any price for the X and I hadn't seen anything on reddit or anywhere to say they had since.

Plus the £50 difference is nothing. If anything that makes me more confident the PS5 will be about 500.

So you reckon £449 and £399? That’s a possibility although I think they’ll want that £100 gap to make people go digital - at £50 I think it becomes much less enticing

Yeah. if they follow the mobile app store model of taking a 30% cut of all PS Store revenue, it'll take about 2-3 games to make up the 50 pounds. I'm pretty sure that, on average, they sell more than 3 games per console.

I actually think it might be £349 and £399, they can afford to take a loss on digital to lock them into their shop and would want to undercut the Xbox on the X.

But that’s literally an optimistic guess
