I honestly don't think we are intentionally leaving it to the last minute just to try to low ball Dortmund.

We can claim that Woodward is an idiot and the club are a shambles in the market all we want but it's clear as day to anybody that Dortmund will hold out for the price they want, and we will be well aware of that fact.

What's a far more likely scenario is that we are working on securing funds through player sales, or indeed that Dortmund would like to line up a few purchases before the world knows they have a hundred million in their pockets, in the meantime they can posture in the media to their fans.
Dortmund never wanted to sell the player and more importantly also doesn't have to.

Sancho is open it wants to return to England. Therefore, both parties probably made a deal that the player can leave under certain circumstances.
If a football club is willing to pay Dortmund's valuation of 120m Euro until their preseason kicks off (10th of August), they are willing to sell. In return Sancho committed to play another season for Dortmund without making a fuss, if no such offer is submitted.
It might well be that this agreement between the club and player was even part of the contract extension talks earlier this year.

Thus, the transfer was dead once the August 10th deadline passed. Since then there are no articles about Sancho leaving this season in the German press. All Dortmund officials are adamant that the player is staying at least another season. Zero indications in Germany the this transfer could still happen. Very different than the talks about Liverpool and Thiago.

Man Utd management misjudged the situation. They had the chance of signing the player before the deadline by coughing up the 120m Euro but they didn't.
I would be very surprised, if Dortmund would accept a late offer, even if Woodward is then willing to pay the full amount because they never wanted to sell the player in the first place.

If this is smart stance from Dortmund or they will regret this in the future, nobody can tell.

We all love United
I'm anticipating a 'United confident of sealing Sancho deal' type of club statement soon to sort of watering out the fire a little due to the transfer news of our rivals this morning. You just know the club would do that

We'll get him, here's how it will happen.

Teams will be panic buying during the last week of the window. We'll offload Smalling, Rojo, Lingard and Pereira then offer Dortmund £100m, cash up front for Sancho.
The COVID pass can't be played now Woodie, you can't leave your manager out to dry after playing well last season. It's either PL clubs do have money to spend or they all are just running their club into the ground. The latter seems unlikely. Also don't know but is it possible COVID affects us more due to some reasons than other clubs?

I agree somewhat with the bolded based on recent seasons, however chasing this target for 2 years and letting everybody involved and the fans think it will happen only for us to have no intention of making the purchase is quite absurd imo.

I'm bitterly disappointed by our lack of action in this window, I posted frequently way back before the transfer window opened about how a club of our standing should be able to make the most of this covid hit transfer window and use it to close the gap more quickly (like Chelsea are doing.) I'd still be happy with VDB and Sancho if we can get this one done. The former adds quality for rotation and the latter is the much needed improvement in our starting 11.

I'll reserve full judgement on Ed and the board until after the window closes.
So will I, but I can also understand the increase in frustration levels. Significant work required in these last 2-3 weeks.

If we clearly can it would be done. Covid has impacted us more than other clubs.
Please don’t fall for that. It’s not affected us at all. We are one of the richest clubs in the world and we’ve just qualified for the CL.

We can easily afford this deal.

Might of already been posted but quote from Tim Sherwood. Hope we sign him just to spite this twat now.

“I thought he was nailed on to go to Manchester United, but it’s quite clear after the Van de Beek deal they’ve run out of money.

“No Gareth Bale, no Jack Grealish, there’s no more money. There will be no Jadon Sancho that’s for sure."

Lack of interest in our deadwood will be the thing holding it up most likely. There's no way we were spending 108m on Sancho and 35m on Donny without recouping some money back through sales.

We probably thought we'd have at least £60-70m coming back in the coffers through Smalling, Romero, Periera, Dalot, Lingard, Mata etc and saving on the wages of Sanchez.

And we've sold.........NOBODY !!!

It's probably the smartest thing he's ever said, to be honest.

Yeah I can understand the frustration today but we can't control other clubs signings. If anything it should hopefully work in our favour to give this a final push over the line.

I hope the board and Ed feel the frustration the fans are venting.

Funnily enough I posted that earlier, I think it might light a fire under them and push to get it done quicker.

Yeah so do I, big time.

Am still confident this will be done, but you really have to think that United would be working on a backup plan... surely?

But who? Costa is a no go. Bale was a none starter it seems, thankfully. Grealish has renewed, Perisic maybe? Brooks? No idea but surely we'd have to strengthen somehow
Chiesa, Sarr, Adama Traoré, Ousmane Dembélé? Sure we can't put all eggs in one Sancho's basket? It would be a disaster when they reject our last day offer and we get nobody.

Cardiff fan?

You don't rate this lad?
Im a UTD fan first and foremost and have been for a long time - 1983 in fact, Cardiff are my local club gotta support the local team as well. But re Sancho - I do think he's probably a very good player but £110m - its not my money but i wouldnt be spending that on him. We've been stung to many times - Pogba £89m would you buy him again at that price? Lakaku? Di Maria? Depay? Veron? They are just the bad examples - but we are slating Maguire at £75m and AWB at £50m. You cant win really. Look at Bruno, he was a great purchase - good price in total and hes been a revelation. Sancho will be nearly double Bruno will he twice as good?

He’s an idiot and a knob. No chance Ole wants Bale, a player who would rather be on a golf course than a football pitch. Doesn’t fit the profile at all. Nobody bought Grealish, £80m for this type of player is insane in these COVID times. If he was worth £80m then someone would have been in for him. He signed a new deal cause nobody was interested. We may or may not get Sancho, but not spending £100m+ on a single player doesn’t mean we have “no money”, it means we don’t have unlimited money, like most other clubs in the league. All I see here is that we’d rather not buy anybody than buy someone just for the sake of it.

Exactly.

This notion we can’t afford it is insanity.
What do you mean by “can’t afford” though? Literally not the funds to make the transfer? We can surely afford him but maybe it’s not sensible, maybe we don’t think he’s worth the outlay. Many do, that’s subjective. You get the impression Ole sees him as a vital piece of the puzzle, but he doesn’t write the cheques. With COVID still an uncertainty, perhaps it’s not the best idea to spend so much, it’s something for the club to decide after risk assessment. It would be one of the biggest transfers in history at a time when money in the game is declining steeply. I want him to sign but can’t be angry at the club for saying no, if that’s what we decide.

The Gunners are working on Aouar too.

Starting to have all the enthusiasm and optimism from the start of the window sucked all out by our seeming failure to really improve the team and lessen the gap between us and the top 2...

We can be angry because it won't hurt us at all. It's not going to make us go under ffs. It's ridiculous.

Reguilon, Bale, Hojberg, Doherty to Spurs. They have had a bigger summer tbf consdering the pandemic and no CL football.
Big summer of adding more mediocre players. I am happy United is not like that.

Tim Sherwood said 4 weeks back that Grealish to United was a done deal. He may wear smart gilets and have lovely hair, however the fact remains, he is a clown.

Fully expect Sancho to sign now for us now Tim has told the world he isn't

Weird situation. What are they negotiating? Dortmund are briefing the price is set in stone and won't budge, so what are we trying to work out?

Are the chuckle brothers Woody & Judge sending emails every day increasing their offer by £1.00 in the hope that Dortmund cave?

Most likely the structure of the payments or how the price of 120 million Euros is met.
