Quotes out now from Ole stating there working hard on signings. Looking at small pool of players that can improve the squad.

Hoping we lose, dear me. I think I'll just be glad when the transfer window shuts.
I cant feckin wait. Our season starts tomorrow. We get to watch United playing football again. Doesn't seem like that many people on here actually care, or are even aware of it.

Its always my favourite time of the season. That point when our 'fans' start hoping we lose games so we might sign a player to help us win games.
What the feck are you talking about? I said it might get glazers to do something being the reactionary owners they are. We dithered around last season for 3-4 months before we signed Bruno who was clearly needed last summer. Yet again we’re going into the season with one signing while trying to consolidate our place in the top four. Heck, we should be trying to build on it and sign some fecking players. If it’s not sancho then Chiesa. If it’s not Chiesa then brooks. We could have signed Kuselevski for right wing had we did our scouting but feck all gets done and Ole is left starting the season with vdB who is undoubtedly a good player but hardly our glaring problem. If us losing a game against in 38 game season gets glazers to loosen the purse strings and do something then I’m all for it. And I’m as much of a ‘fan’ as yourself top red.. so jog the feck on.

If being a top red means not ever wanting the team to lose, then I guess I'm a top red.

You're not

No doubt we are partly hamstrung by our owners taking money out the club but one result is not going to change a thing. Very poor to even think about wanting to lose the first game of a season.

Still, I don't think you really mean it. Just a bit of understandable frustration!
It is frustration. Frustration that we need to be spending money to build on last season and now we’re back tomorrow with largely the same squad. We were fatigued after the restart and there is no way of knowing how we will go about the new season but it would have given us the best possible start if Ole got his targets before the start. Okay if we’re not signing sancho then move on. We’re an absolute mess and the only reason I said that is because that’s what Woodward does, he caves to public opinion. We lose tomorrow there will be questions asked why are Leeds and villa spending more than United whilst United are supposedly one of the richest clubs in the world. I want Ole to do well and build on last season but it looks like he’s doing it with a handicap that is Woodward and glazers again. Ideally I’d love us to win every game, but we won’t and I’d rather, we had a wake up call now then like we did in the middle of last season when the wheels were falling off before Bruno was signed. He signs and he transforms the team. So yeah of course I’m looking signings by any means necessary before we have to wait until January. But that doesn’t mean I won’t be supporting united tomorrow I’m looking forward to the game as much as the next fan but we can have serious doubts about how we go about our business and damn right it makes me frustrated and angry.

United have never lost a game. Would you take a loss tomorrow if it meant we were 100% going to sign a competent winger? Or would be pig headed idealist who wants to win the every game.. funny old thing we were in the same boat last season where Bruno would have made life much easier.

Get a grip. We are on the middle of a global pandemic. I’m glad Utd are being prudent, that said, we all know most of the action happens at the end of the transfer window.

@Bilbo also you’re talking about like fans need a transfer fix. Nah you’re wrong. Fans want Ole to start a season with his targets bought. With the best possible advantage. I don’t care who we sign as long as they improve the team. We’re looking to build on last season before this season starts but seeing as we’re wholly incapable of doing that, I just hope Ole can get his targets before October 5th. There’s nothing wrong with being concerned that we’re in a perpetual state of feckwittery in the transfer market. LvG got fecked, Mourinho got fecked and now Ole is getting fecked. Me not minding losing the game is desperation at this point.

Turn it around.

Would you want us to lose a game, not knowing If it would make a difference to whether we make a signing or not?

Losing tomorrow might make is very slightly more likely that we might sign someone. But, then come the end of the season we might miss out on something by 2 or 3 points.

Looks like we are going to have a string 11 to play Palace tomorrow, a certain amount of nervousness. As for transfers Ole clearly has asked he like Fergie ia not going to throw the club under the bus. He's also said or words similar to lets see at end of the window. So if we don't sign anyone, clearly its not down to him. I still think outgoings is what this all hinges on. I'm going 3 1 Utd tomorrow. Henderson to start in goal. Pogba to start with Bruno and DVB.

If you don’t like my formatting feel free to put me on ignore. Yes we’re in a global pandemic, and yet teams around us strengthen to the best of their ability so what’s our excuse for being prudent as you put it? Do we have to go for Sancho or maybe we should get our house in order and prioritise someone else if there’s a global pandemic. Also, having most of the ‘action’ happen at the end of the transfer window is a definition of a haphazard approach, panic buying etc call it what you want. It’s bad business. Get squared away early and be ready for new season.

That’s why I said it was my personal opinion. I don’t know if we will definitely sign someone. I don’t want us to lose tomorrow but I’d take it all day long if that meant we got our shit together in the next couple of weeks. As I said it’s out of desperation for players to be brought in. And I’m not talking about Sancho. I’m taking about anyone that will improve season on season. At the minute DvdB will not cut it.

I don’t like your formatting. Paragraphs are good.

You have a pass for now, but you are on thin ice. I’m sure that’s going to keep you up at night...

Every club would like to get their transfers done early. It’s just the reality that most of the transfers happen at the end. It’s got nothing to do with a haphazard approach - as a very basic illustration, we will often be dependent on a club buying a replacement for a player we are buying.

We can’t influence that. These things will always go to the wire.

Still not heard one actual argument as to why making one of England's most promising up and coming stars attend a conference.

People are just deflecting all the negative things Greenwood rightfully was criticized for and pretending it's because of Southgate and standard media duty.

Mason messed up. Stop making excuses and deflecting. Demand more and better attitude from our players and move on.
Rubbish. Why must Greenwood do a press conference? Ask yourself that question. Why does he not do press conferences at United?

You have to be very daft not to understand how stupid and petty the English media are.

They are a disgrace and Sterling exposed their modus operandi.

If you dont understand that, thats your problem.

Compare Harry Maguire coverage to Greenwood. What other story did they unearth about Maguire?

They are called the gutter press for a reason. They are lucky to be dealing with Ole. Fergie would have banned the lot of them.

Levenson enquiry about them was a joke. They need to be regulated properly the idiots.

You can't ban the press. You are obligated to do it in the competitions we play in.

Still not a single argument. Just stating that it shouldn't happen. Make one argument.

Name one other player who doesn't do press.

England talent picked for the first time after great season. England player does normal press. People outraged.

Again, provide one rational argument as to why Greenwood should be excluded from media and press duties that ALL OTHER PLAYERS are required to do.

Young players are rarely ever put in front of the press as they aren’t media trained, usually don’t talk very confidently and have the right answers, or talk themselves into trouble. The press knew that with asking him about maguire.

add to the fact united haven’t let him talk to the media at all - even after games where he’s been man of the match you can see why ole is annoyed.

they’re trying to keep his feet on the ground as they obviously know he’s a bit impressionable - England didn’t protect him.

"We've got Dean (Henderson) in, you've got Donny, Paul (Pogba) is fit now, Bruno (Fernandes) came in and his first game was February 1 or something like that so he's not been here long. Eric Bailly as well has come back, he looks fit and really good so we hope we can move forward and who's to say that we can't?"

More than enough people have gave you the answer of why he shouldn’t and you still choose to be blind to it. The same answer as to why ole and United doesn’t want him too. Add to the fact there was Maguire issue as well. Sounds like a plan to set him up to fail.

I do not understand how you fail to see this. It’s called man management? A job that the manager is supposed to do?

If you can not see my answers in my earlier post then I can't help you.

Greenwood is a Manchester United employee and an up and coming Manchester United player. He is not an up and coming England employee. They have had nothing to do with his development apart from the fact that his passport says he is English. He can retire from international football tomorrow and he would not be breaking any law whatsoever

Now when his employer is advising England how to deal with their employee, the hardest job England can do is fail to listen to that advice.

And yes any stupid press can be banned from press conferences. Fergie banned the BBC.

No player owes their national team anything apart from pride. Its not a contractual relationship and England national team do not employ any player . Playing for your national team is like charity. Thats it.

As a Manchester United fan I don't care about England, and I wish them to be knocked out of any competition at the earliest opportunity. And am English as well.

Protected. He didnt do anything wrong in his interview so clearly trained. But what he needs right now is to focus on football and not media attention. The press conference was poor by England
Your comments show a complete lack of understanding of why young players need to be kept out of the media spotlight especially early in their careers.
Their whole life is changing, including newfound fame, access to money etc etc, in such a crucial time football development should be what their coaches should be keeping them focused on.

You can see from a player like Rashford who has been protected well what it can do once players are allowed to mature. Also see Sterling
So he is according to you "clearly trained" in media, enough to perfectly handle what is being described as a potentially damaging presser, so again, I fail to see the problem. Like what is the claim, he was so stressed about doing the presser, which he handled well because he has been clearly trained for, that he needed a release and decided to order in a bit of totty, so the obvious error of judgement here is that of whoever decided he would do a presser and not himself?

The media is a lot worse than in SAF's time, there were still journalists he could trust and the players could trust. Now they are vultures just looking out for scandal. There wasn't social media then, so a lot of things were not reported, now they can't wipe their nose on their sleeve without it being reported somewhere.
I agree but don't see the relevance. Posters here are saying he handled the presser well, do you not think he was likely briefed by the England media team beforehand "if they ask about Harry just say this and that" etc?

Or maybe you follow the example of the club that consistently had academy players breaking through and actually uses them?

Regardless of what you think the club has actively kept him away from the press and he then gets called up and it gets completely undermined and the press then ask him tough questions regarding Maguire.

Can you not see how that completely undermines what the club are trying to achieve?
No quite frankly. England can handle their players as they wish while they are on duty. much the same way they can play a player at left wing even if their club are trying to develop them as a right winger, is that undermining too?

What exactly came about directly from him doing a presser? Nothing as far as I can see. Really don't get the fumbling of the buck, there's no logic to it at all but I guess judging from this thread alone it has worked as there are enough readily happy to swallow it through their rose tinted specs.
It was a very poor decision to allow them to room together: because they might goad each other into mischief (which they did) and also a missed opportunity for them to learn off pitch behaviour from senior players from other clubs. Yes, that was poor leadership, and surprising by Southgate as I’d have thought he’d be on top of such details.

I was also abit surprised when Greenwood have such a lengthy interview, given he’d not been afforded that opportunity by the club.

All I’m saying is that none of this mitigates Greenwood and Foden from their mistake, which I think is a lot more serious than many on here are prepared to admit. They did know better and knew what they were doing was against rules, else they wouldn’t have hired new rooms in for their romp!
this I agree with, the poor decision from Southgate was to room them together. If that was the beef it would be understandable, this hysteria about him doing a presser from which came a total of nothing is strange to say the least.

So why was the interview a problem? Was it brought up as an issue before or after Greenwood made a terrible error of judgement in bringing girls into the team hotel? Come on now.

They have the right to do it doesn’t mean it is good and we can point it out. Like Ole said it is their right to call up the player but that doesn’t do the player any favours and that’s why we are calling it out. When that’s already a problem and you compound it by putting him in front of the cameras? Then on top of that like you admitted failed to manage young players under your supervision?

No one said Mason is not at fault. Even Ole with tinted glasses said as much. He is at fault doesn’t mean we can’t also point to the faulty of the system and the ineptness of Gareth. We have already done to death how at fault mason was. Maybe now it’s time to shine upon how England should manage their players better?

Because he was asked questions and put in a position he should not have been at his age. Its very simple

You sir are short of comprehension skills or really choose not to understand.

the issue was man united already asked FA to give mason a rest, way before the girls fiasco. Not only they deny it but they put him into the cameras on the first day. This has nothing to do with how Mason make the mistakes he had, but the supervision didn’t really help him did it? That’s what Ole was saying, being the grown ups that your job is to manage, they didn’t do a good job.

Ole did not link the mason mistake to the FA and said it is their fault, he said it as much if you gone through the whole interview. He is just pointing out that the FA is bad at handling young players. Is that not a fact?

Nobody is calling anything out if he didn't break rules and get sent home, that's the point. This is all just a moderately successful deflection tactic.

Because he was asked questions and put in a position he should not have been at his age. Its very simple
I hadn't seen this brought up as an issue prior to today, strange that. (players are not marched in at gunpoint either, they or their agent can decline doing a presser)

The only simple thing is nobody had a problem with him doing the presser at the time and it would never have been an issue worth mentioning or of discussion had he and Foden acted in a professional manner like the rest of the squad.

Easy to ask to give him a rest, funnily enough after Solskjaer himself ran him into the ground and resulted in his performances dropping off a cliff for the last few weeks of the season, is he terrible at managing young players too? England have no obligation to rest players in the few times they are at their disposal, clubs have exponentially more opportunities to afford their players a rest if they deem it necessary.

I think the only mistake, and it is perhaps with hindsight, was rooming him and Foden together. Southgate claims to do extensive background checks on players and their profiles and there were quotes from Solskjaer earlier in the season that indicated that Greenwood was prone to off field distractions.

His performances didn’t drop off a cliff that’s bullshit. Solskjaer simply thought he needed a break mentally and physically and maybe the England camp should have listened.

Solskjaer also praised Southgate’s handling of young players but on this occasion calling him up, leaving him and Foden to their own devices and putting Greenwood in front of the cameras for a lengthy press conference with headline seeking journos asking about Maguire was not cool.

Nobody is calling anything out if he didn't break rules and get sent home, that's the point. This is all just a moderately successful deflection tactic.

Then you are blind for one, and two don't listen because I already told you it was brought up at the time

His performances definitely went off a cliff and i say that as he was my favourite player to watch in the league for a good 6-8 weeks but he clearly needed dipping out and then back in a few times but never got it as Solskjaer insisted on playing the same side week-in and week-out.

It will still be an issue worth mentioning even without breaking the rules fiasco if Mason did not hit the ground running start of season. Obviously it does not matter to you since you are a Chelsea fan. I wonder if Chelsea fans and managers never complained that the FA used their players when it is deemed unnecessary. I wonder what you would say if all the national teams return your team injured back to you start of season because of their training methods. I mean, they have a right to do what they want right?

So when Lampard complains about the FA I wish to see you here out with the pitchfork demanding his resignation. Or does it only applies to Man United?

My favourite line is "we can be the best at things that don't cost anything"
This seems to be a dig at Glazers and Woodward as far as I am concerned.
Hopefully they’ll see it as such and get their act together.

That's me told.... If you aren't qualified then I don't get how you can state what you have that's all. Reading body language is a sure fire route to successfully judging a managers frame of mind I'm sure.
Again, it comes down to opinion. Agree or disagree I don't care. 50% of my job is to relate to my business partners on a emotional intelligence level (and i work for a 100 billion revenue plus company). You do not need to be qualified or have an academic degree to see certain aspects. On that topic, I will state I have a 1st class qualification from University of Oxford that entitles me to be able to understand how to read emotions from a leadership perspective. Again, I will state, you do not need academic records to judge this, I am just fortunate enough that I have this qualification but even without it, it should be the norm, to be able to understand the demands and pressures that individuals have and how it impacts the words one communicates. I am not a psychological expert but I do have a level of emotional intelligence to understand when someone is happy or sad inside, despite what the externalities suggest. My only advice to you would be, do not judge a book by it's cover and learn to add value to any statement you blurt out. I wish you the best of luck in the future but please hold back from pointless responses.
