Why? In your previous post you question how the dressing room is meant to take this kind of statement and say it's worse coming from Shaw as he should arguably be replaced, yet you accept the fans having confirmation of a lack of leadership at the club as a positive. For me there is a further positive in that Shaw as a man under scrutiny still feels it necessary to voice his concerns about the squad, which is an interesting insight into how he and other squad members may be feeling about the current situation. 'Needs to be said' is surely over the top so thanks for picking me up on that, as pretty much no footballer saying anything has ever been absolutely necessary, but I disagree that any form of affirmation from the words of footballers and managers is out of the question for football fans.

More broadly I've always thought football fandom in itself is a pretty fecking irrational endeavour. I get the point that if you're devastated by Lingard's social media antics or by Greenwood's extracurriculars etc. you probably need to take a step back for your own sanity but taking an admittedly savage pleasure from a current squad member saying what everyone connected with the club has surely been thinking? That's ok by me to be honest.
The "positive" was tongue in cheek, there is nothing positive about having the confirmation of a lack of leadership in a football club. And to me the fact that Shaw decides to voice his "concerns", shows that he has no consideration for his teammates or manager and it's not a good inisight to have.

There’s nothing wrong with what he’s saying. Sunday league teams have these things happen all the time and it doesn’t affect the dressing room. Senior players telling others to piss off politely or otherwise. Professional sportsmen should be fine with some hard truths. I think Luke Shaw is including himself in the conversation — I’m sure he’s heard about Ole looking for a left back.
There is a difference between doing in person and doing it through the press. And there is a massive difference in terms of media management for players and managers for a Sunday League team and Manchester United.

I think it’s absolutely bonkers. We were top of the form guide from January last year, got to the semi-finals of three competitions and had the youngest squad in the league. Yet they’re going into the season defeated unless we spend 200m. The whole club is a fecking soap opera designed to get clicks on social media. No other club seems to have a permanent cloud of crisis over it quite like this one.
Are you familiar with FC Barcelona?

Fair enough, I don't think there's any harm with fans hearing footballers speak frankly now and again. I do understand your concerns, particularly now I've learned to read sarcasm.

I hope the players are now beginning to understand that the people running this club aren’t interested in doing what it takes to bring United back to competing at the highest levels, and start to speak out in droves.

And there is absolutely no difference in psychological make up of a professional player and a Sunday league player. Both sets of players will experience same set of emotions. A bruised ego isn’t exclusive to superstars with lots of media attention.

Being ripped into in front of your team mates behind closed doors isn’t much different to Shaw’s quotes, in terms of how much it will affect the players. It shouldn’t affect them at all. They’re probably welcome him saying that.

I think everyone in Man Utd squad recognises that we need more quality to compete. Those guys are all aiming to go as far as they possibly can and maybe apart from one or two bad apples they’ll relish the competition.

Again, going to back to Sunday League, but it’s irrelevant what standard you play, if you play competitive sport, you’ll always welcome a challenge and you’ll always be excited about getting a better team together, even if it means you can potentially end up out of the team. Hence I don’t think he said anything too inflammatory. It’s not as if he liked a tweet saying TFM and James are pathetic and then came out and said it.

Here is the thing, if Shaw said that the team had enough talent, that last seasons unbeaten streak showed it and that the players have no excuse for yesterday games. People would have the same type of reactions. And anyway yesterday Crystal Palace first eleven had exactly zero new player, those comments are pure deflection because if we had won that game he wouldn't be talking about needing a "boost".

What message? "Yeh, give me more money, because I couldn't manage to beat Palace at home with these players".

I'd close the door, if I were Ed. You invest on winner, not loser.
So you’d rather sack Ole and go through all that again?

There is an obvious contradiction in your argument, which is the fact that football men are not expected to handle negotiations.

The job of negotiators is not simply to agree to whatever fee set forth by the selling club, but rather to get the best deal for the club. If they can't get the best deal because the selling club is being stubborn, do they then become great negotiators by simply agreeing to the demands?
Great negotiators would negotiate on multiple fronts forcing sellers to think of their strategy else they may end up with no money and an Unhappy player. They would start negotiations way in advance so that the manager can start preseason with a settled side. Finally they know the limitations of sound negotiation. No amount of negotiation will lower a fee from 108m to 80m

You can't be serious, if it was the case there would never be any sort of negativity in a locker room and we both know that it's not the case. And the standards are absolutely relevant because the main issue is how much things are going to be repeated in the press, the amount of people that will ask you about it in private and there is the simple fact that you are suggesting that certain players shouldn't play for this club, these players will definitely be affected, you may not care about them, you may not care about how their mood may affect the team but it does matter.

And it's exactly as if he tweeted that TFM and James are pathetic with the small difference that he didn't name them while everyone knows which group of player is at the fringe and will lose their place first.

Both are at fault. Judge and Woody are useless but Ole needs to improve big time as well. Some might say that Ole is Woodward mistake as well. Young managers who are learning on the job need proper support else don't bother hiring them. Just ask lampard

Finally someone putting some pressure on the board, wish Ole would do that. We need the preassure to go up on the board, it's no help repeating and repeating "if there's a player at the right price" etc etc bullshit all over again.

But that is the point exactly.

To fairly assess the performance of the negotiators, it must be appreciated that the negotiators are like middlemen between multiple parties.

a. The manager states who he wants
b. The owners/board state how much can be spent
c. The selling club states their price

If any of these parties simply refuses to budge, there is nothing the negotiators can do. No strategy, not even negotiating with a 100 players will convince Dortmund to reduce the price for Sancho.

So at this point, the negotiations cannot be blamed. Only the board for not providing funds, the manager for not having a back up player, and the selling club for not being agreeable.

Thats on the club not the manager, clubs employs many scouts they should have potential alternatives based on the manager profile of player

There’s negativity in the dressing room after bad results. It’s largely dependent on whether the team is winning or not and not whether if a player is acting out.

Certain players shouldn’t play for the club and he’s absolutely right in saying what he’s saying. Public or otherwise. Paul Scholes’ son retweeted a tweet that called Daniel James a ‘make a wish foundation kid’ — if James sees it and there’s a chance he might, I’m sure that will be more hurtful than anything Luke Shaw said in the press.

Again, its up to you to feel whether it’s a personal attack on you or whether, you yourself know that you’re not playing to the standard required and you’re going to fight for your place. I’m pretty sure most of our squad would fall into the latter category seeing as they’re all elite sportsmen whom need to have that competitive streak to get to where they are in the first place. But by and large, these types of statements happen all the time at all levels multiple times as season at some clubs.

Seeing as the player we’re (allegedly) closest to signing is a left back that’s very unfair. All that I would take from that interview is that he sees rival clubs signing some of the best players in the world and he - plus every other player in our squad - would be excited if we do the same (and disappointed if we don’t) Anyone whose morale would be seriously damaged by these comments is the kind of mentally fragile player we could probably do without.

And Paul Scholes son isn't in the locker room, he isn't a teammate of Shaw and they don't have to work together and build some trust, so I don't care what he does. If Shaw does the same thing then I have to question his sense.

No saying they hadn't decided between them that if a senior professional gets interviewed to drop a couple of comments in there. It was just unfortunate it came after a defeat not a victory. Even if they won they still know more players are needed for their own welfare.

So you don't question the mental fragility of a player who needs a boost from new transfers and is seemingly affected by other teams bringing players? Crystal Palace players didn't seem to need a boost yesterday.

I’m just saying pointing out that there are much more vile attacks on our players from those connected to the club which James and co have to deal with. He and others should be able to deal with what Shaw said without problems. We need to have players to have that edge about them. Ideally, I hope this is a positive, as it may lay down a marker.

Incidentally, Luke’s place is under threat and yet he’s coming out with those quotes and that alone makes me think as a positive. He could have kept his mouth shut but there’s obviously fighting spirit in the lad and he believes that strength and depth is ultimately a good thing.

Hopefully more players come out and say we need signings because at the moment the board are trying to blame the fans for this negativity. Look in the mirror you parasites.
This is starting to sound identical to the government blaming the public for the spread of covid...

Great from Shaw, especially given that his position is one of those key areas we need investment in, and he'll be well aware of that.

No one told you that there weren't much more vile attacks on our players though. And if you don't see a difference between an outsider making a remark and the guy sat next to you in the locker room doing it in the press then fair enough.

Edit: To be honest it reminds me Lukaku's "man up" talk and people were also supportive of that.

He must not be happy with Lindelofs contribution to the game, pretty much stating what every fan, player, pundit knows.

What the board is playing at is another matter.

I'm fine with players or managers saying this, but don't people consider this 'airing dirty laundry that should be kept in the club'?

Double standards I guess.

Solskjaer getting in his excuses early; just using the players to do it as well.

Well it is just unfortunate but irrespective of the result we needed reinforcements and when Luke Shaw is coming out with these quotes I can only speculate that the players are desperate for reinforcements. I mean they’re dead on their feet as well. Souness said it right, it looked like we’re finishing the season not starting and that’s obviously down to our squad depth as well and not solely on preparation or lack there of. Not that I particularly buy that as an excuse.

Players, for me, at any level, want to be part of a winning team and not the butt of all jokes, whether you’ve millions of people watching you or there’s 12 teams see you as 6-7 nil rollover. You don’t want to be on the receiving end and thus l think that anyone that has an ounce of competitiveness and self respect will want to play with the very best, be the best etc. If that means you’re not getting as much game time but when you are you’re fitter, stronger better then that’s better than hanging out your ass and getting beat all week. Anyway that’s my personal opinion on the matter. I’m glad Shaw came out with this and if I was his team mate I’d have absolutely no issue with him saying that publicly if it got us some better players.

I was saying that it’s not like it was a personal attack on James which it wasn’t. It was attack on the board and a look in a mirror if anything. I think Shaw included himself in that quote.

Shaw’s position is more under threat than James’. Yet Shaw has still came out with these quotes which is good in my opinion.

Well he evidently doesn’t need a boost as he was one of our better players yesterday. And against Villa. The less said about the rest of them the better.

I wonder when was the last time a player said "I`m so shit that the club needs to find me a replacement".

That being said, he is correct, even if he is a part of the problem.

Is there an actual video of this and who is TV2? I find it really hard to believe a player would come out and say this but if he did the Balls on the lad. Got them titanium balls.
Seems like a big risk to question the club like that even if he is right.

@JPRouve Is he saying people need to go? If you recall last season Ole only trusted so many of them and by the end of the season they were burnt out. Now going in to a new season with no real pre season and one that is probably going to be a lot more demanding in terms of space between games. We’ve also probably had less prep time than most of the teams in our league. So I would think most of them realise it’s a squad game and it needs reinforcements.
I mean Jones, Rojo, Smalling, Perreria maybe even Dalot probably realise they are on borrowed time.

Most posters over here are in FIFA20 mode..

player make mistake...press button ...sell player
Press button ...buy new player

Team loses game....press button....sack coach
Press button....sign new coach

All this in a matter of a minute.....:)

He's probably fed up of having to make constant last ditch clearances at the back post when Lindelof misses the ball when a cross comes in. Barring yesterday he's normally very good at defending his back post.
