That letting go of Rafael wasn't that bad a decision, as many would have you believe in this thread. What's your point?

Lyon got to the final stages of the champions league last season, what did we do?So nothing special. LVG can be blamed for a host of things, but letting go of Rafael isn't exactly criminal.
Jones contract was renewed when Ole was caretaker so it isn't clear how much say he actually had in the matter. Lingard's contract runs out next year. Mata would probably be a better example.Good basic management that has Andreas, Lingard, and Jones sitting on long term contracts on high wages. Sounds more like stupid terrible management. He also sold Fellaini within a month and clearly looked to get rid as soon as he came in. So, no he didn’t give him a chance. Telling someone they aren’t in the plans isn’t treating anyone like shit.
All the players didn’t hate van Gaal.
This is probably why van Gaal has won countless trophies while Ole has won feck all and Rafael has done absolutely nothing since leaving.
There are many? So you didn't read the article nor the thread then. There's one comment questioning the decision. The problem is how he did it. The part about LvG is what everyone knows, that he's a shit person but Rafael gives us more insight into why is football was shit too. That letting go of Rafael wasn't that bad a decision, as many would have you believe in this thread.
Yeah I read the article and I seen a few posts here with the consensus that it was a bad decision. Sounds like LVG didn't rate him, similar to the way Pep didn't rate Joe Hart. Hardly anything in that article that suggests LVG is some kind of monster. The football was indeed shite, most of us could see that from the beggining. There are many? So the club board did a good job in getting rid of Fellaini then?Jones contract was renewed when Ole was caretaker so it isn't clear how much say he actually had in the matter. Lingard's contract runs out next year. Mata would probably be a better example.
Why are you quoting me, I did not make that point? So the club board did a good job in getting rid of Fellaini then?
Shame Rafael played no part in getting them there.Lyon got to the final stages of the champions league last season, what did we do?
We don't know if LvG didn't rate him. He didn't see him train, didn't see him play much and he's got a history of booting Brazilians out of his teams.Yeah I read the article and I seen a few posts here with the consensus that it was a bad decision. Sounds like LVG didn't rate him, similar to the way Pep didn't rate Joe Hart. Hardly anything in that article that suggests LVG is some kind of monster. I didn’t get your point that’s why. Are you saying he had no involvement in selling Fellaini and renewing Jones contract? Why are you quoting me, I did not make that point?
Rooney, think that's about it.I'm not sure there's been a single player that has good things to say about LvG.
Yet cleared out a load of deadwood and nourished the young players who were breaking through the ranks into the first team. Shaw was gotten by him, Rashford was given his league and European debuts likewise Martial had his best season with LvG aged 19.Yeah appointing LVG really set us back. Shit man management, shit transfers, shit football.
We do know he didn’t rate him. He literally told him so.We don't know if LvG didn't rate him. He didn't see him train, didn't see him play much and he's got a history of booting Brazilians out of his teams.
Guess SAF was wrong in rating Rafael then and LvG was right based on nothing. Good thing he replaced the right back postition oh wait...
The original poster said he gave long term contracts to three players when one of them was Jones, which he probably had little involvement in (he was a caretaker at the time) and another player was Lingard whose contract actually ends next year. The better example to use is Mata who was given a three year contract. I didn't make any comment about Fellaini so I don't really get why you keep going on about him.I didn’t get your point that’s why. Are you saying he had no involvement in selling Fellaini and renewing Jones contract?
Someone at AC Milan didn’t rate Vieira. Someone at Juve didn’t rate Henry. It happens... At the end of the day stop Dramatising the situation. He didn’t like him he moved him on. It’s hardly something we have gone on to regret. We don't know if LvG didn't rate him. He didn't see him train, didn't see him play much and he's got a history of booting Brazilians out of his teams.

Of course Rooney has good things to say about the manager who said “my captain always plays”Rooney, think that's about it.
It's not the same. LvG has a history with Brazilians. You might call it xenophobic. We've also been moaning about the right back position for years whilst it possibly could not have been a problem all this time.Someone at AC Milan didn’t rate Vieira. Someone at Juve didn’t rate Henry. It happens... At the end of the day stop Dramatising the situation. He didn’t like him he moved him on. It’s hardly something we have gone on to regret.
Fair enough. But what’s the relevance of removing Jones? They all were poor decisions. Fellaini was a good one.The original poster said he gave long term contracts to three players when one of them was Jones, which he probably had little involvement in (he was a caretaker at the time) and another player was Lingard whose contract actually ends next year. The better example to use is Mata who was given a three year contract. I didn't make any comment about Fellaini so I don't really get why you keep going on about him.
And Schweinsteiger, and Martial, and Giggs to name a few. Seems quite a coincidence there that’s is the actual world class talented players who praise and speak well of him while it’s the average not good enough ones who have all the time to speak badly.Rooney, think that's about it.
Read that just now actually, now that's pretty bad if true. Although we've no idea if LVG seen him play much before coming to United. Rafael was decent going forward in our last title winning season but then injuries seemed to get the better of him and didn't do much of note, from what I remember anyway. We don't know if LvG didn't rate him. He didn't see him train, didn't see him play much and he's got a history of booting Brazilians out of his teams.
Guess SAF was wrong in rating Rafael then and LvG was right based on nothing. Good thing he replaced the right back postition oh wait...
Raph was becoming too injury prone and had a terrible season under Moyes. It was 50:50 and quite frankly he’s gone on to do nothing. But I loved his time under Fergie and I’m sure he would have been a great RB If Fergie had continued on.It's not the same. LvG has a history with Brazilians. You might call it xenophobic. We've also been moaning about the right back position for years whilst it possibly could not have been a problem all this time.
Ah yeah i remember Giggs saying some positive things. No doubt he was a great coach but i didn't find his style for us particularly enthralling. Although we had some good wins, especially vs Liverpool. And Schweinsteiger, and Martial, and Giggs to name a few. Seems quite a coincidence there that’s is the actual world class talented players who praise and speak well of him while it’s the average not good enough ones who have all the time to speak badly.
Lyon got to the final stages of the champions league last season, what did we do?
Yeah this thread has been derailed now by the LvG gang. It was never about if it was correct or not the decision. The critique lies with his management.Raph was becoming too injury prone and had a terrible season under Moyes. It was 50:50 and quite frankly he’s gone on to do nothing. But I loved his time under Fergie and I’m sure he would have been a great RB If Fergie had continued on.
Fond of LVG are you? Good for you. One of the worst managers of all time for United. Tactics mean diddly squat if you don’t have players motivated and playing to their potential individually and as a collective.Called him the best coach he’s ever had by far. His tactical knowledge and attention to detail were stuff he’d never seen before. Says he wants to be like that as a manager.
People that dislike van Gaal:And Schweinsteiger, and Martial, and Giggs to name a few. Seems quite a coincidence there that’s is the actual world class talented players who praise and speak well of him while it’s the average not good enough ones who have all the time to speak badly.
It was 15 years ago now, and Pique was 13, but the memory is fresh. And no wonder. Pique's grandfather was a board member at Barcelona, Van Gaal was the manager and one afternoon, he came for lunch. Young Gerard was there, too, a hopeful, skinny kid from the youth system; "my grandson," Pique senior said proudly, "is going to play at the Camp Nou one day." Van Gaal, though, was not so sure. He shoved Pique over and, standing over him, declared him "too weak" for Barcelona.
Thank you, for years I've had to read ridiculous comments about van Gaal offloading players when they should've been kept. Look where they ended up, did they do better when they left the club, no they haven't. Three out of those five it was definitely the end of the road for them at United. It was the right move getting rid of Rafael, Chicharito, Nani, Evans, Welbeck, etc. Bringing in the likes of Darmian, Rojo, Memphis, Falcao, etc. to replace them was the problem.
Bingo, on every word.Good basic management that has Andreas, Lingard, and Jones sitting on long term contracts on high wages. Sounds more like stupid terrible management. He also sold Fellaini within a month and clearly looked to get rid as soon as he came in. So, no he didn’t give him a chance. Telling someone they aren’t in the plans isn’t treating anyone like shit.

2012-2013 Rafael as a tots package was far better than AWB ever was. He dealt pretty good with many of the best wingers (including Ronaldo), and even as a pure defender he never had the nightmare games AWB had.Offensively yes, defensively no.
And that critique is crap. A manager doesn't have to give everyone a chance. He can learn players before he starts his job and decide some just aren't good enough or right for him.Yeah this thread has been derailed now by the LvG gang. It was never about if it was correct or not the decision. The critique lies with his management.
He was briliant in Fergie's last season. Unfortunately, he was nowhere near that in 2013/14 as he was injured a lot (again).2012-2013 Rafael as a tots package was far better than AWB ever was. He dealt pretty good with many of the best wingers (including Ronaldo), and even as a pure defender he never had the nightmare games AWB had.
He's also extremely overrated as a manager by his own cult. He was a good manager but never as good as his cult believes or wants everyone else to believe. His career has as many failures as success, or even more.People that dislike van Gaal:
Rivaldo
Stoichkov
Johan Cruyff
Hugo Sanchez
Zlatan
Di Maria
The man is an absolute cnut of the highest order and a bad manager.
Of course. Imagine working your butt off to get to your dream job and some fat cnut comes along and just tells you to piss off without even seeing your work. Yes Rafael had some injury concerns but if what he is saying is true, then that's disgraceful management from LVG.Good Interview he really dislikes LVG and probably rightly so.
It's rather easy to watch football games and make up your mind about the ability of a player. You don't actually have to be his manager to do that.Of course. Imagine working your butt off to get to your dream job and some fat cnut comes along and just tells you to piss off without even seeing your work. Yes Rafael had some injury concerns but if what he is saying is true, then that's disgraceful management from LVG.
