Yeah, there is already a thread I created a few months back.Wrong forum?

We actually have people who have knowledge about football running the academy, and it shows.Shame we can’t execute deals for the first team like we can at youth level. Snapped up quite a few highly rated youngsters with ease this summer.
I have a feeling that the academy operates with autonomy. Glazers and Ed give them a budget and they fire away. No dithering. If we could do what the youth team do but with 18-22 year olds we would be laughing.Shame we can’t execute deals for the first team like we can at youth level. Snapped up quite a few highly rated youngsters with ease this summer.
Simples eh...same sorely needed up in the first team!We actually have people who have knowledge about football running the academy, and it shows.
I think possibly we’ve done a little extra this summer because all the indications point to it being much more difficult to sign EU young uns after brexita highly rated 16 year old French CB ... after missing out on Upamecano and Badiashile back then, third time's the charm, huh?
crazy how many highly talented 16- and 17-year-olds we've been able to bring in recently, it's great to see. At least one level where we actually seem to know what we're doing.
It'll likely include a number of bonus's etc i'd imagine. Will we accept the 4 mill price tag though?
The youngest and biggest stature wise if he's already 6'3He'll be our youngest U-18 if we get him. 3 days younger than Hansen-Aaröen.
We’ve got some really top talent there but let’s not get carried away. Our U23s are yet to win a game and both our U18s and U16s lost to city today. For all the short comings with the senior squad transfers, we are doing extremely well at the youth setup. We are just throwing money all around and kudos to that - because we might actually hit a jackpot.
This isn't a dig but there's sort of a contradiction there, as individual player progression and results don't really go hand in hand. There can be a handful of players progressing the way we'd like and the rest that don't, which ends up in hindering the team in results. Different players progress at different rates as we well know, plus there's been plenty of new faces so teams are yet to gel, especially with them having the whole of the pandemic without playing any football. We’ve got some really top talent there but let’s not get carried away. Our U23s are yet to win a game and both our U18s and U16s lost to city today.
Hopefully we can keep this up so we don't have to keep trying to make 100m signings to improve our squad. For all the short comings with the senior squad transfers, we are doing extremely well at the youth setup. We are just throwing money all around and kudos to that - because we might actually hit a jackpot.
Hopefully they will be highly rated 20 year olds so it should save us a fortune.a highly rated 16 year old French CB ... after missing out on Upamecano and Badiashile back then, third time's the charm, huh?

Indeed. Our academy has been the one bright spark at the club for awhile now. And there's definitely been a change in the purpose and intent over the last 2-3 years. We actually have people who have knowledge about football running the academy, and it shows.
I wouldn't worry about it. We're in a bit of a transition. We've loaned out a lot of players from a talented 2000-2001 generation, and naturally there will be a bit of a step down from that generation. On the other hand, we've bought a lot of talent for that 2003-2004 generation. They're still young though and 2 of those transferred players have been injured for entire seasons (Mejia and Emeran). So this meant a player like Shoretire, who granted is more talented, got most of the playtime for the u18s to a point where you can play him for the u23s.We’ve got some really top talent there but let’s not get carried away. Our U23s are yet to win a game and both our U18s and U16s lost to city today.
I'm pretty sure it takes up just as much time and has just as many failed attempts as the senior team. Just the difference in media reporting that makes it feel like they are much less drama free.Shame we can’t execute deals for the first team like we can at youth level. Snapped up quite a few highly rated youngsters with ease this summer.
Can't say I blame us. With Brexit looming signing EU youngsters is very uncertain. I also think, as obvious as it may sound, that we're trying to get the £80m-£90m players before they end up being worth that. We really struggle with the prices we're quoted so overpaying a little for them now rather than in a few years time does make a lot of sense.4 million for 16 year old, we are not holding back when it comes to signing young players.
Butty is doing a great job, lot of promising academy have shown up recently too not just his recruitment. We actually have people who have knowledge about football running the academy, and it shows.
Yeah, if the scouts, coaching staff think these players are huge talent then it's better to take the risks. Can't say I blame us. With Brexit looming signing EU youngsters is very uncertain. Average age of our U23s is about 18 years, 4 months. Last match we started 3 × 16 year olds and 3 × 17 year olds. You cannot expect 16 year old players to immediately start winning against 21 year old opponents. We’ve got some really top talent there but let’s not get carried away. Our U23s are yet to win a game and both our U18s and U16s lost to city today.
