we finished third.. we had European commitments and so did PSG.. after.. we could have signed Cavani..

Would anyone have been averse to getting him on a 1-2 year deal?

We’re signing him because we’ve not a fecking clue. We’re done as long as those ginger cnuts are in charge.

Seeing that Harry can‘t head on target but free kicks frequently find his head, we may have a player that knows how to nod on target.

Yes, four weeks away, like what was first stated that you disagreed with.

the only problem I have with this signing is that we kept ighalo
You said ''a few weeks to get up to fitness''. Do you think a month to just start to get up to a base fitness level is acceptable?

Keeping Ighalo makes sense. When Ighalo goes back to China, he will be fit and ready to take his place.

Why is he a centre forward?
All the games I have seen he does not play straight down the middle and Ole has stated he is not good enough in the air to be a centre forward.

Please show us where Ole said he isn't good enough in the air to be a CF? He is a CF and will be at our club for many years

It's amazing how many people don't get the main issue at hand. Nobody gives a feck about Cavani in particular, the problems lie elsewhere and they are glaring.

Cavani is still much better than Martial and he probably always will be.

Its not that Im in favor of this signing btw. Would have prefered Telles, Dembele and Sancho but Cavani is much better than Martial.
2 years ago, maybe.

No, the main issue in this thread seems to be signing an unfit over 30 year old

It took Ighalo about 3 weeks to start playing and he also had to quarantine for part of that time. Yes it is going to take some time, but he will at least be an option off of the bench within a month most likely. I don't see why this is such a travesty either. Spurs have the same situation with Bale. He's far better than nothing, and the upside is that we are getting a player that can score goals in a way that no other player in our squad can consistently offer.
 hes bale? hes 2 years older and....

utterly ridiculous take, sorry. I swear, some of our fans just like to piss on our players for fun ... Martial scored 17 PL goals last season. People need to stop thinking of prime Cavani, we're simply not getting this version. We're getting the version that is 33 years old, has been plagued by injuries, scored 4 goals in Ligue 1 last season and hasn't played a single game since March.
Agreed. Martial had a great season.

Now we're apparently signing some over the hill backup on crazy wages.

I'd prefer to see Greenwood backup Martial (who has proved himself) next season, and sign a backup RW, than do this. Obviously, we'd all rather have Sancho... but from what I have seen from Ole, he'd rather wait.. so this looks like a club signing. I honsetly can't see Ole signing off on this.

Or, put it this way.. if we do this deal.. it's the difference between getting Sancho, and not. Let that sink in.

Yup, thank god we freed some space in wages so we could offer Cavani a 2 year retirement plan.

It's not about Cavani in isolation. If he was added on top of players incoming, then who cares if it takes him a few months until we see him properly. But with our schedule, we can't afford to rely on our current options for 90 mins 2x week every week until then. We need players fit and ready to play right now. We're no better off really.

He's a signing I would have loved on a different context.
Until proven otherwise, he was brought as a pseudo marquee signing after the Sancho plane crash.
It's a risky signing considering the club's recent history with declining players on huge wages.
Still, I rate him highly and hope he's still retained most of his unquestionable quality.
Welcome Edinson, hope you have success here and helps us retain our UCL spot (hurray new Arsenal), since PL title looks as far as it's ever been.

At this point, I have no clue why we got rid of Sanchez if we end up getting Cavani. I think Sanchez would have been more useful and is younger as well.

We also would not have lost so much money, as we had to pay Sanchez to leave for FREE, whilst now we are also paying Cavani a ton of money and he will leave for FREE as well. What a shambles.

Hopefully it’ll be more Ibra than Falcao.

So have they said his much the agents are getting? Reports said they wanted $10m. Presumably we told them to fcuk off.

It's Ed we're talking about. “When people see Cavani on the team sheet, that’s gonna send some shivers down their spine.” We probably offered them more.

Because it’s not a computer game and maybe Sanchez was a dick? Upsetting the dressing room?

typical United signing old forwards, just like that useless Ibra signing

Could have fooled me the way you’ve moaned and compared it to Sanchez and falcao
Another one trying to be pedantic. Some of you guys love to clutch at specific comments and take them too literally.

My point is noone would care if it ends up as a success or not. Right now, if we don't sign anyone else, people will have big expectations from Cavani. And I'm 99% certain he will not come anywhere near close to what those big expectations would be.

I don't understand all the anger towards this transfer.

We are getting a top player with at least 2 years of high level football left in him. A player whose scored 112 in 213 (Serie A) and 138 in 200 (Ligue 1). A player with lots of priceless experience that he can pass on to youngsters at the club. He's high profile so will bring in even more commercial revenue and will offer serious competition for Martials position which can only be a good thing.

And what is the transfer fee we have to pay for this privilege...............£0

It's a no brainer in my opinion and means we have more money to improve other areas of the squad in one of the hardest transfer windows in decades (Covid)

I’ll give him a chance but I’m not feeling positive about this transfer.

Such a typical Woodwank flex too. Sign ageing stars for free/on loan to sell a few shirts and desperately try to generate an artificial buzz around the club.

Well check the Donald Trump has coronavirus thread. Few people wish him dead. Once you open a can of worms..

I don’t want glazers dead. I don’t really know if I do if I’m honest.. Look, it’s an off the cuff remark that I don’t particularly find becoming but I’m not going to take it back either because thinking back on it.. feck those cnuts!

Edit: Also, nothing to do with Cavani as a signing. Think he’ll do well. He should have been signed weeks ago and we still need a rw.

Hes 33? And the agent fees are £10M..... A lot of members on here think Kane is unattractive.
