I'm talking about RVP's career not his time at United, RVP barely played during his first years at Arsenal due to recurring injuries. And my point is that at the time no one could imagine that he could finally catch a break and put decent seasons together. There is a difference between acknowledge a clear issue with a player and continuously engaging in the doom and gloom while not even accepting a bit of positivity of hope, I mean you guys are having a problem hypotheticals, not even posters claiming that everything will be alright for Dembélé.
I see your point but we took a far more educated risk on RvP because he had already proven that he put his injuries behind him when we made an offer. Dembele isn't close to that, which is why it's just bizzare.

Regarding your note on hypotheticals, it's actually more of a hypothetical that he doesn't get injured than one where we consider he can't stay fit.

Fully agree. I believe we've got no chance of Sancho (likely no CL anyway) ever now, considering what we've pulled with Dortmund this year, so Dembele is the next best thing.

If loan plus option to buy is not going to happen, we should just get it done. Not being proactive is how we end up desperately searching for players on the last day every year to begin with.
Club don't see it that way though

There is nothing proactive at forking out millions on deadline day for a player with many question marks. In fact that’s been one of the things that Utd have been getting wrong time and time again

rvp, robben and giggs injuries bear no semblance. Both those players played over 30 games in their injury hit seasons.

however let’s hope if he does come all his injuries are behind him.
At the exception of last season Dembélé has a very similar amounts of minutes and games played by Van Persie during his first 5 seasons at Arsenal. And Dembélé played +40 games in 2018/2019 with 29 in the league. It is last season that was a real disaster.

Oh I agree about now, i meant proactive for next summer. We've clearly messed up royally leaving it to the last second thinking Dortmund was bluffing, now what do we do? Run Greenwood into the ground playing 2x week all season?

Sancho is never coming, with likely no CL and the bridges burnt with Dortmund, so the suits need to just pay up for their misjudgment. We can't afford to not bring in a rw.

Dembele, Cavani and Telles were clearly not Ole’s first choices. I’m not even sure if Cavani or Dembele was on the list at all.

What was pretty clear from Ole’s interview yesterday when he was asked a question about transfers, he clearly looked peed off. He answered the question bluntly and just bit his tongue.
As much as I think we've been let down by the board on first XI transfers (Sancho), surely OGS isn't stubborn and naive enough to just have one choice for the areas he wants to strengthen. 'That player or bust' strategy doesn't sound that great for any club... there's plenty of other right wingers out there if you look hard enough (maybe he has done that with Traore and Pellistri as ones for future).

OGS himself was an alternative to Shearer, and he worked out just fine. Our 1999 pool of strikers consisting of Cole, Yorke, OGS and Sheringham could have easily been Collymore, Kluivert, Shearer and Cantona (who didn't retire) in an alternate universe where SAF's wishes in the 90s were fulfilled.

It's another negative towards OGS as manager if he's set his mind on just one player for a position (Sancho for right wing in this example). He should have alternatives and be ready to have alternatives because no manager gets their first choice all the time.

So... Ole insists on only bringing in players with the right mindset at reasonable cost and we will end up with Cavani and Dembele, who NOBODY ELSE WANTED, instead of Sancho who was absolutely buzzing to join us and is only beginning the asscent to the height of his powers. Vavani and Dembele are both are cracking players WHEN FIT but are both coming strictly because of the money. We've somehow forgotten Di Maria and Sanchez. We are proper f-ed as a club.
don’t worry we aren’t paying what it takes to get Dembele.
Telles Cavani VDB- horrible window.

I was not talking about the move to United, so I don't really know why you talk about it. And we also didn't purchase Robben.:)

And the hypothetical I was talking about is him staying fit, read the post the again.

Just awful and so underwhelming to get neither
totally and the absolute worst thing about it is they go from one unavailable player to the next. They are just chancing their arms. Maybe barca will loan us this lad... in real terms the chances of that happening were always around 25% and that was if we were going to buy him outright which we were next going to do. All talk.. Knocked back by chiesa, Dortmund, Barcelona... where are we off to next? Oh ya! Not having the paperwork ready for a 30 million pound transfer who will have to wait till Jan to get a permit. Splendid work lads. We are worse at this than 99% of the big clubs. Our dithering messed everything up as usual

Really hope this is the case and not ballbags account.

Will be real disappointed if the lad from Uruguay and another winger with less than 6 matches of first team senior football experience are our only new wingers...

Nonsense tweet. We’re not getting insurance without a medical and we’re not getting finance without insurance.

The guy is held together with sellotape and they're trying to say there will be no medical?

Anyone but us and I'd laugh it off as a joke.

This would be a brilliant play by Barca. Absolutely played like a fiddle.
