If you put Martial or Rashford close enough to him centrally he will hold the ball up and create chances for them to run on to. If we play over the top of the opposing CBs he cannot run onto them. You have to use players to their best use. What worked in 1999 is not going to work now in 2020.

If brought him 5 years ago - awesome. Now? Same as Ibra, but I think he will not be as good as Ibra for us.

Well he'll be starting in our next league game because of Martial's stupidity.
He hasn't kicked a competitive football for the last 7 months, and hasn't even been training with a club. He's been home in Uruguay "farming" and quarantining as he contracted Covid. Prior to those 7 months, he was out injured for a good portion of the last 2 years.

For him to be ready for first team premier league pace football anytime soon, is wishful thinking, to say the least.

Is he here yet? I haven't seen an actual picture of him in Manchester.

Shouldn't he be doing photoshoots and stuff?

Apparently he's under quarantine having travelled from France, which may also mean that he misses the Newcastle game!

Everything I've seen/read/heard seems like he's a model professional, and someone with that attitude and experience will only help our young group of attackers. Also provides an option thats drastically different from the others, which was needed.

Only problem is we didn't sign him early on in the window, so he could've been ready for the season. Having to quarantine when he comes now means its unlikely he'll play much until after the November international break, meaning he'll miss half the champions league group games (newcastle, psg, chelsea, leipzig, arsenal, istanbul, everton). Maybe being optimistic he'd be ready for the last 3 games of that list? Not ideal either way.

Complete panic buy, just hope he deals ok with being a sub
I hope Tony doesn't start sulking if Cavani plays him out of the team. He's not here on massive wages and getting the #7 shirt to be an understudy to Tony. This is healthy competition.

But Rashford/Martial/Greenwood can run into those balls and lay it back to him.

Cavani would-will actually work in a 4-4-2, unlike Rashford-Martial.

And I'd be more than happy to bench Martial if Cavani starts scoring consistently in a 4-2-3-1 as a pure powerhouse CF.

He doesn't have the pace and never had and has slowed down a lot. If others play a high line against us the can put them thru. I would play a 442 if he is playing. No wingers with 4 midfield and him and probably Martial up front but closer to him than on the wing.

its only healthy competition if both players treat it that way, Martial does not deal well with been dropped and it normally has a detrimental effect on his form rather than sparing him on and I can't imagine Cavani dealing well with being on the bench.

So we'll see.

That's where Ole comes in. It's his job to manage a squad and maximise performances. He's been lauded by many for his man management skills.

Unfortunately though he apparently will not be around for the Newcastle match as he needs to quarantine for two weeks before joining the bubble.

Explains why we've not yet seen him in a United kit but ffs could we not send him a shirt and get his wife to take a photo or something? Seems a bit of a damp squib of an announcement at the moment.

Not playing the first PL game after the break due to quarantine, first start could be against PSG.

One thing I like is Bruno Cavani and Telles are all pricks. And you need a few of them on your team.
You could argue after the spuds game that we don’t have enough of them...we definitely need a few more cnuts/winners in the team so these boys should be more than welcome!

I loved Cavani at his peak, was saying around 2013 here that I’d love us to sign him, despite the Caf’s resident snobs saying he’s crap and wasteful.

Now I’m not expecting much tbh, was very confident Ibra would do well since he came off one of his best seasons and could still rely on his physicality, but two years of niggling injuries and little to no footballl at that age doesn’t bode well for Cavani. Still, if he retains his creative touch and hardworking nature then he’d be ok, the guy created loads of chances by just relentlessly going after the defenders.

So he can't play against Newcastle because he's got to quarantine. You'd have thought that someone at the club might have realized that and got their finger out to get the deal done earlier? The circus continues.
Yeah we really should have been a little bit wiser to that

I don't really understand the negativity. Our others forwards contributed a grand total of 1 goal between them in 3 PL matches so far.

I hope Cavani's hungry and ready to push them a little bit, they are far too comfortable at the moment.

His attitude is supposed to be fantastic. Also was just looking at his record against the top English sides, and yes that was in the past, but he has a lot of goals and assists

It kinda makes you realize we haven't had a proper CF in a while. And I love Martial - but he's more of a false 9.. Imho.
Yeah, no doubt he’s a proper CF. Some of those goals are sensational! If nothing else, the lad knows how to strike a ball...

Going off on a slight tangent, I’ve got a theory on these niggles that Cavani has suffered from lately. I think the ballet (and probably the rest too) will have done him the world of good in terms of stretching and flexibility, a bit like Giggs and his yoga. I’m getting in to old fart territory but having started to do this regular “Stretch and Flex” class, I’m barely getting any niggly injuries...not that I’m trying to compare myself and my 5-a-side adventures to Cavani in the Prem of course but hopefully the point stands...I think we might be pleasantly surprised at how robust he is (he says with fingers crossed!).

He's been a superb striker over the years so hopefully he's still got it. The Pl can be unforgiving for players moving past their prime but he's always had a great mentality. I do hope we manage him and Martial well though. The latter is undoubtedly a more important asset for this football club and our foreseeable future, and generally plays better when given confidence and trust. He'd have developed much better had Mourinho not mismanaged him in favour of clumsy (Lukaku) and stop gap (Ibra) CFs.
