So I’ve settled for now on a planet called Yarasil R16.

It’s first I’ve found that’s even slightly habitable. It has grass and water but is a bit overgrown and mountainous. Currently trying to upgrade my inventory but struggling to find the things needed to fix the machine. I left the exo suit machine to go back to my base and put metals through the refiner but then I didn’t have the way marker to go back? Is there not a way to pin things to return to them at a later time? What are those things where it says area discovered? I can never seem to find a planet map.
You can manufacture a beacon, think you're allowed 5 on each planet plus carry a save point everywhere so you can just drop it wherever you want as a pin. Press up on the directional buttons if on console and you then go to ''portable''. You can upgrade your suit inventory slots at space stations also.

I just found a brilliant mountain planet with giant mushrooms and these flying guys

Might finally get it since it's discounted on PSN. Wanted to get it for a long time but always picked up some other games but I really love how they keep updating the game 4 years after launch. Majority of other companies would have just abandoned the game and released "No Man's Sky 2" a few years after launch, huge respect to the company.

I've been playing it for the first time and it looks interesting but i'm grinding a lot for materials at the moment. Built a nice house on a snowy mountain that I have to jet pack to get to.

Has anyone found a nice habitable planet that isn't covered in aggresive sentinels? I've tried about 15 different galaxies with no luck so far.

Getting a bit tired of this now. Seems a lot of flying to similar desolate planets and scraping to get materials. Having a base doesn’t really seem to help me, or am I doing that wrong? If I want to charge my portal it takes all of my carbon so I have to run around to try and find more.

Bought a load of upgrades for my multi-tool and ship but the stuff I need to actually use those I have no idea where to find. Meanwhile it just kind of sits taking up a slot.

I keep thinking about starting this properly, but then I think I may as well just go back and finish Subnautica which I know is great.

I’ve pushed through a bit. Enjoying it again today. Think I was just annoyed after the game yesterday.

Good stuff. Game can be overwhelming at the start but at its core it can be a really chill game once you get everything together.

Great game, I've actually just jumped back into it myself. Only thing that annoyed me a bit was the crafting system.

I was loving it but got distracted and stopped playing it for a bit, then forgot what it was on with, so feels like it’d be difficult to pick up where I left off now. Might not be that bad though

It's not a bad 'chill' game to relax to but at times I do find myself getting bored and wishing for a bit more variety in things to do/planets to see. There's a nice nod to the Alien movies on some of the barren planets/moons but that kind of loses it's charm when you see it repeated a fair few times.

Yeah, even after this latest update you start to see familiar patterns. Definitely think the creatures need an overhaul too in variety. On the plus side though this Origns update was said to be just the first step in adding more variety. They'll continue to roll out free updates for a long while yet into next gen also.

Is this game good now? Noticed that it also supports VR. Should I get it? It reads like a sort of Terraria in space.

I keep going back to this game, for an hour at a time, before getting bored. It's cool for a bit, but I get tired of the constant scanning and mining. Is there a point where you don't have to do that as much, or is that a constant?

I wish there were more missions in the creative mode. More limitless space exploration, less shooting plants for ferrite dust.

Must admit, I'm getting abit bored by it.
I got to this stage but pushed through and learned a few more of the mechanics. Not sure why but it keeps me playing for hours. I don't mind the constant mining as I'm constantly thinking "Ok I'll just craft this and then I'll be sorted" but then I'm thinking I need to go an upgrade my exosuit, and didn't I need to stop at a frozen planet for some crystals? etc... Keeps me occupied. Enjoying it!

I'm really enjoying it, but it has a steep learning curve.
It has. I started a game in 2018 and did about 13 hours. When this update came out I started afresh but quickly thought that I may as well continue my old game. I couldn't remember what on earth to do and spent most of my time googling NMS questions.

It's a really relaxing game though and makes time disappear really quickly.

I find it very hard to stop playing  It's always one more planet, or I'll just do one more thing.

Luckily I'm a highly intelligent person. Very smart, SMRT

Seriously though, I'm a big fan of Paradox 4x games, which are rather complex too, so I have no problems with reading up a bit,.

Yep, that's the thing. I also find the soundtrack and sound effects to be very hypnotic. The sound of the mining tool and the robotic voice that accompanies everything, and the spacey / ambient music, it's a perfect recipe to hypnotise me and make 3 - 4 hours diappear!

VR is a trip. I often end up just driving around in exocrafts exploring planets listening to music on Spotify. Exploring underground and underwater can be sublime, and taking in a sunset on a scenic planet with the right tune kicking in ain't bad...

Sounds great, guess I'll get this then, thanks.

Definitely. Find it's the perfect game to jump into because you don't actually have to do anything, as you say it kind of hypnotises you. Definitely not a game for everyone but there's no game quite like it either.

I keep playing it despite wishing I was playing a better game. It's a great idea for a game but it's just too empty. I feel like there should be great big cities on extremely rare planets, better creature designs, meaningful choices, maybe even a 'like' system like in Death Stranding where you can thank other players for leaving items or for designing cool things.

Been off work poorly for a few days. It’s a perfect ‘being off work poorly’ game. Dunno where the time has gone. Found a planet with loads of storm crystals on so have spent the best part of a day braving storms to get loads of the suckers to flog.

Amazing concept for a game, and you can’t help but feel something similar to NMS on the next generation, or even the following generation of machines will be incredible.

The first game I've ever platinumed without actually completing the main story, which feels weird. It's a good chill game but I can see why it divides opinion. I built a nice little house, which i'm stupidly proud of, on a strange and colorful paradise planet with bubbles rising up everywhere and purple trees .

Does anyone else name their planets or systems because 99.9% of where I've explored has only been discovered by me. I know the game is meant to be super huge but I just find it weird that I've not found many other traces of other players. Maybe i'm doing something wrong or I've misunderstood something.

How does the base building on this compare to Subnautica? I loved that aspect. Very chill. Would be great to build a base with a mate too. Come to think of think, they need to bring out a new Subnautica with an online aspect.

Man, I loved Subnautica. NMS had its moments, but building your base was so much fun in Subnautica. Actually felt like a safe haven from the terrors of the ocean. And super useful for charging batteries, housing vehicles, storage etc.

Mine was so cool. Had a massive overhang over an abyss with a viewing area

I stopped playing and now think it'd be too difficult to work out what's going on and what I need to do.

Wonder what they actually say when you talk to them
Recently started playing this in VR for the first time on the PS5 after hearing about the resolution patch. My God it's incredible
