Season four was dross, fingers crossed for 5.
The second half of the season felt a lot less grand than every other season. Hopefully we see even more of space in the new season.

Couldn't make it past S2 of this show. Kept reading how it's so great, a GOT in space, etc etc. It was decent - but dull and predictable in most parts and some of the acting is B level at best. Dont get why it seems to be popular enough to get this many seasons.

'GOT in space' is the dumbest comparison ever.
Thats what one of the articles I read said. It definitely is nowhere near the same. Going in with that expectation probably didn't help my appreciation for what the show actually is.

Btw I agree with some of the discussions about about that UN vice director or whatever her title is to be on of the worst actors on the show. Ive seen her in other things where it wasnt so jarring. (i. E. I loved the Saddam inspired mini series she was in.. Think it was a BBC show or something?)

Renewed for a sixth and final season.

Seems like that's a bad thing, given there's nine books? Might result in a highly compressed season.

Might not have been the hit amazon hoped it would be when they saved it.
I've been testing through Book 5 before December 16, then learned today that Season 5 is going to have part of Book 6 too :D

On Twitter, Ty said that it might not mean the end of The Expanse.

Six seasons and a movie? ;)

I started to read the books during the summer and with the lockdown etc I'm up to book 7 now, so this is the first season where I know what's coming.

As I was reading them having seen all the seasons up to now, I thought most of the changes they made in the series were a big improvement on the books. When it's flipped this time around, I'm not so certain this season.

Just finished watching ep 4 and while it has been good so far, the effect of the events that have happened isnt as big or as great as it was in the books.
Eh? That was one of the best episodes of Sci-Fi ever!

I still don't think this show is anything special like many seem to. It's probably the best sci fi out there but it's not exactly a genre loaded with quality right now.

But this season has been very good, much better than season four. And episode four was fantastic.

Last season really dragged it down but this one was been excellent so far.

Love it, one of the best sci fi shows ever IMO, maybe not a high bar compared to other genre's but it delivers strong storytelling, grounded, engaging characters and some impressive visuals and sound.

Season 4 was slower but the characters are engaging and the human conflicts feel very possible. They nail the supporting characters, Ashford last season was the highlight for me, Drummer steals every scene, keep hoping they will bring back Anderson Dawes but given the success of that actor it might be tricky.

Speaking of dumb comparisons, a Dutch TV channel marketed Chernobyl as "even better than game of thrones", I kept expecting dragons to show up at some point during the meltdown.

Yep. If I am not mistaken, 2/3 of the world's population (15 billion people) are either dead or injured after the 3 asteroid hits. While here, it seems that the effects are significantly lower (millions of dead people).

Yeah the effect on Earth was disastrous as it was rendered uninhabitable, with next to no UN department operating and the only thing UN is show doing was getting everyone to base on the Moon. I hope we see the breakdown of society in the next episode(s).

Yeah I'd say hang on with that for the moment too. I reckon they'll be talking billions in the next few episodes.

If that happens, it would be very inconsistent. I am pretty sure that they measured the impact of the first asteroid to be 200-300 kiloton, which is as big as 15 or so Hiroshima bombs. That would mean that the effect on the society would be totally negligible outside of the close zone it would effect. For example, it would destroy a city or it might cause a small tsunami but it cannot have catastrophic consequences for humanity.

I would have loved to be able to binge this. That [5] was a good episode but it needed another half hour or so after spending a good portion of time on Amos and Peaches getting to surface.

You're a total bore.

That said, yeah, the Earth stuff is giving me about as much as the planet stuff did last season. Not much.
The stuff with Bobbi and Alex is shite too and a bit weird really knowing what he was actually like, though that could just be me. Still the first four episodes were great and it's obviously building to something so hopefully it's just a standard middle of the season lull.

Also is it me or has the dialogue gotten worse?

Like that bit when Camina asks Naomi's son if he has anything he wants to say to her after Marco already made it really clear that they shouldn't tell her they were holding Naomi prisoner and he still says "I'll tell her my..". Come on

I disagree with you about it being a bore, even on Earth, but there has been some cringe dialogue. There have been some moments where I’m thinking, ‘surely you could’ve at least pretended to be subtle there’.

Really enjoying season five so far and trying to get my girlfriend into as well so we watched the first two episodes of season one. She immediately commented what a bad actor Steven Strait is which made me smile as I'm not the only one who thinks that. Think I mentioned it before in this thread and I have not seen him in anything else but I find his acting really cringy at times.
