clearly it wouldn’t be a penalty. It would have been checked to see if it was a dangerous tackle, and if it was he could have had a red card. But he got the ball, so doesn’t matter.

As far as I'm aware a red card can be given for dangerous play of any kind, whether it's during normal play, out of play, or in a situation like what happened there. Obviously it wasn't in this case though as there was nothing wrong with the challenge.
