I knew this will happen. Remember some years ago, we played Arse and lost 2-1, Rafael scored goal at the very end of the game. They were everywhere on the pitch. Next week they played Stoke, (I think it was Stoke, or someone like them), Arsenal lost 1-2.
We are their Cup final.

Agreed. It’s simply baffling how we lay down for them last week.
I was willing to credit Arteta who I think is doing a decent job over there, and Elneny and Partey who played well, but this today lays bare what a truly rancid performance it was from us. A few Arsenal fans, including a few on AFTV, didn't want to hear how terrible we were but it was clearly a big factor in their win.

and that's why Ole rightfully gets stick. Home to a terrible Arsenal team and we played with fear.
The easiest way to play is to sit back and counter.
That's why these type of results are more common.

AFTV will be unreal tonight. IT'S TIME TO GO.
If Ole's getting it, then so should Arteta.

The difference is, Artera sets up with 5 at the back, with 2 defensive midfielders.

Their top goalscorer of previous seasons is shoved out on the left and they create next to nothing. I'd be raging if I was an Arsenal fan!

I think Spurs are their cup final, to be honest. We've had alright results against them recently, no?

I like Arteta and I think he'll come good for them, but they don't seem to me to have the players to be a very good side. They are average at the back and they are average in midfield, though Partey is shrewd business.

It's a shame we didn't show up against them.

I'm sure there's a great deal of research that goes into the psychology of this stuff. You wouldn't think it could work but I suspect it had, at some point, some kind of impact because everyone started doing it. I wouldn't be at all surprised though if every player appealing like a child for every ball has made referees largely immune to the effect (key word still being largely).
For sure, I think its to influence later decisions. You aren't changing the original decision but putting doubt in there to make a more favorable one more likely.
I don't think there's much research at all and I don't think it's even players playing the long con either for the most part. You're not putting doubt in anyone's mind by acting ridiculous. If you're trying to that you got to sell it and that means being believable in your lie. That's not what we're seeing on the pitch. I think it's more to do with culture and social norms. You see certain nationalities do it more than others which makes it look like learned behavior. That used to be the case at least but football has been televised widely for so long that it's gone beyond specific football cultures and become more of the norm now.
