I've just taken the plunge and bought one of these for my Girlfriend for Christmas. It feels like a bit of an expensive risk as shes not historically been a big gamer at all but she has expressed interest in animal crossing in the past so I'm hoping its a gateway (drug). Rather selfishly down the line I also might be able to steal it and play BOTW which I've never had the chance to play.

My partner (who's also not really played anything since maybe high school) has enjoyed Mario Kart, Luigi's Mansion, Mario + Rabbids, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and Super Mario 35. Some of them we've played a fair bit together as well.

Brilliant, its a big investment but I really do think she will get into it!

I found that in my partner's case the issue is that she can't really control a character and a camera at the same time in a 3D world, so the fact that's not an issue in the mentioned games helped a lot. I'm hoping she'll one day feel comfortable playing e.g. Breath of the Wild.

Yeh I think that will be very similar in our case. What I often forget is I learnt to play video games when I was really young and I started with games like Spyro, Crash which had big platforming elements and were relatively simple to play. We have played a few 2d side scrollers on my PS4 so those are looking like a good starting point.

At least it sounds like your girlfriend is familiar with a controller. Mine wasn't the first we tried to play something together.

Apologies if it’s already been mentioned but EE are giving away free switches with selected phones and contracts. Cheapest is an Oppo A72 for £21.99 p/m 10GB of data. Existing customers can also add a switch to their phone plan for an additional monthly cost. (Jesus I sound like an EE rep don’t I )

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is £33 on Switch. Golf Story is about £6.

Are these worth buying?

Did anybody else have problems connecting to the e-shop yesterday? I wanted to give them money and they didn't let me!

I bought Tropical Freeze for Wii U, as a big fan of the Donkey Kong Country series for SNES, but I found it quite disappointing and never played it more than a handful of times. I also only paid £12 for it.

What time was this at? There's usually an update around 14:00 UK time on Thursdays in order to do the background work for the Friday releases and it often goes down. Possible there was an extra issue this time though or maybe it took longer to sort out Black Friday sales.

Yeah must have been too busy due to the sales. Tried a couple of times between 7-10 pm.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
So I've had the updated version of the switch for the last year and have probably played on it for around half an hour max. It came with a code for Mario Kart which I've installed but I want to sell it on and I'm wondering if I can remove my account without losing the game? Need to know for advertising it, with or without the game. Any ideas what it'll be worth too?

dunno about price but it’s tied to your account, so you’d have to change the email maybe and hand over the login. People are wary though as it’s a common scam to sell with the games and not give them the account

Fair enough, I would probably just wipe it then and just sell as the console only. Can't really be bothered with messing about for what it's worth. Cheers for the help.

The one I ordered for my gf arrived yesterday. I logged in and set it up with an account for her and it came with Animal Crossing so she will be good to go at Christmas. It's one of those things where I'm actually really jealous that I've bought it for her as I want one! It seemed very slick just from the setup!

I can't really afford anything else at the moment but are there any gadgets that are good to have for the switch that I could pick up in the future?

A protective case of sorts (which might come with some storage for the game cards as well) for when you want to bring it with you, a tempered glass screen protector, a pro controller and an microSD-card for all those digital games.

Brilliant thanks! I'll suggest that to her, I've spent enough for one Christmas!

How do the ones on Amazon compare that look basically the same but cost £20 instead of £50+?
I got the 8bitdo and it's so far been fantastic. Can't compare to the official Nintendo one as I've never had it but the one I got feels comfortable for someone that has been using PlayStation pads since the first PlayStation came out.

That’s cool, I’m leaning towards getting the proper Pro one for single player stuff and a cheaper one for multiplayer.

Definitely get the pro controller pal. It’s fantastic and the battery lasts for ages!

the only problem I have is the battery lasts so long I forget I actually need to put it on sometimes and come to find it surprisingly dead. Unlike my PS4 one which I’m now surprised to find has any charge at all

I've also got the 8bitdo and it's a really good controller. Heard the official one still has issues with drift, despite the steep price.

@TrustInJanuzaj my partner has now spend all day playing Paper Mario. I never thought she'd get that into gaming.
The downside is I haven't been able to continue The Witcher.

So I bought a Switch a couple of xmasses ago and I'm struggling to find anything to play on it that I enjoy. Played through Mario Odyssey, it was alright. Started Zelda, it just felt hollow. Tried playing Pokémon Shield, just feels like a game for OCD.

I've tried some other stuff, quite liked Baba is You, most other things I'm just not feeling.
