I believe people are a product of their environment. I was once a former hard core republican (up until around 21 or so) and it's taken both time and access to information. If you grow up around people that are indoctrinated in those thoughts, it's an uphill battle to find your way out of it. It took being exposed to people like Hitchens and others for me to really start thinking about how I came about my political and religious views and from there I was off. Doesn't mean I am any smarter than I was when I was 21, it just have different information and hopefully an open mind.

PS - she is not my type :D
I know this process quite well. I'm a Caf testament to how information, education, open-mindedness, et al can bring one out of that indoctrinated shell.

Imagine being Cruz (shudder) craving your whole life to ascend to the greatest throne in the land (America not Canada) and now reduced to being in the shadow of not only Donald but also his idiot son.

This is exactly why Trump has to be prosecuted for his many crimes. Trump ‘24 with 4 years of Democrat Administration bashing and 4 years of former President gushing and questions of if he was misunderstood would win in ‘24 whether it’s Biden or Harris. He needs to be dismantled.

Assuming the traffic cone goes to jail or is in some other way disqualified, my leading contenders for 2024 would be Hawley, DeSantis, Haley, Cruz, Rubio, and Pence.

Romney, Baker, and Hogan are basically relegated to RINO status at this point. Cotton may also have an outside shot if he didn't have the charisma of a tree.

Seems to be a lot of excitement by Trumpies about the Sidney Powell ‘Kraken’ released today. What is that all about?
Been looking at some twitter threads about it and it sounds an absolute train wreck

Page upon page of baseless conspiracy theories and conjecture, basically no hard evidence of anything. Doubling down on the batshit "Hugo Chavez and Soros conspired with Dominion to fix the election" claims.

Absolutely chock full of really basic typos, including misspelling the name of a "key witness" multiple times in different ways.

Some of her main citations include an ex-admin of 8chan who's heavily linked with QAnon, Project Veritas, and a literal link to a search result on DuckDuckGo.

And yet a lot of the Trumpites are convinced this is somehow going to swing things for them

Bit ironic that Republicans all of a sudden have a problem with dominion because they sure love their dominionism.

To counter the RINO charge, the never -Trumpers need a new acronym for Trump acolytes. I suggest RITNOs: Republicans in Twisted Name Only.

Smartmatic should probably figure out which side they're really on as well, company is out here trying to bring communism to the U.S but calling out Maduro in Venezuela.

https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-v...-million-votes-election-company-idUSKBN1AI1KZ

From the Kraken
A core requirement of the Smartmatic software system design was the software's ability to hide it's manipulation of votes from any audit
Maybe that's possible, but it also seems to be pretty convenient for someone who is saying they did it with no concrete evidence.

Ah, the basis of any good conspiracy theory.

"Of course there's no actual evidence to show, because THEY removed it all. The lack of any evidence is what proves it's real!"

Like others have said, I too had to make a similar journey. Grew up in a very conservative Catholic house. Rebelled as much as I "could" in my teens/20's by becoming a libertarian. It was my move to Alabama for grad school that began my liberal transformation. It has been 15 years of stripping away thoughts and beliefs, and it is still a battle that creeps up and probably always will. Exposure to life outside my safe SoCal bubble was eye opening and raised a bunch of questions that I had no answers for at the time.

The guy they use as evidence for the Dominion voting systems being hacked in 7 minutes with a screwdriver actually made a post on the a segment on Fox where they talked about it. He does point out there are issues with the systems and thinks they can all be hacked, but in this Kraken thing the hacking thing they're referring to isn't even the same system they used for this election.

Ffs we haven't even inaugurated the new President and here is Raoul spamming completely irrelevant national polls for 2024?

Seriously mate, give it a fecking rest for a year. Posting these garbage "polls" adds absolutely nothing to any discussion.

Happy Thanksgiving

The term has become even more absurd since Trump rolled into town since his supporters are using it against anyone that doesn't support Trump, despite the fact that Trump himself has given more money to the Clintons, Chuck Schumer and other prominent Dems over the years, than any Republican has. Its basically become a meaningless term to vilify other Republicans who diverge from the orthodoxy of the moment.

Why do these polls even exist? Why is it happening already?

I can't shake the feeling that the US is basically just a neverending, continuous election campaign.

i know we joke, but reading through that twitter timeline of Trumpists, i'm starting believe the chances of a terrorist incident is getting dangerously high. Parler is full of this almost continuous wishing for assassination, whose got the guns etc. It only takes one to try something. Maybe this is just their coping mechanism.......fantasing about terrorism :nervous: :nervous: but whilst i laugh, it's genuinely distressing at the same time.
Biden is probably more Republican than Bush Jr was.

Some MAGA cap wearing gonad taking out Biden sees a centrist Democrat in the Oval Office.

Biden will give MAGA folks most of what they need, and almost all of what they want. They’re just a dumb brand of people.

It pretty much is. Political cycles never stop, so as soon as one ends (2020 elections), the opposition immediately begin positioning themselves towards the mid terms. The period of actual governance is always influenced by political preservation at the next election. This is why big policy changes are very rare - because they give the opposition something to vilify before the next election.

Biden is the Twilight novel of President Elects. Too liberal for conservatives, too conservative for liberals. Meanwhile, suburban middle-class women swoon.

He’s going to pretend he’s president for 4 years. Without question. His rallies will be huge.

He’s a bigger threat to America than any terrorist organisation.

I’m prone to speaking in fluent hyperbole. But the above is true.

It wouldn't matter even they were/could be hacked. There is a physical print-out of the ballot, which the voter checks is accurate in terms of who they voted for.

Let's look at some actually useful data.

"As well as Biden fared in these cities, however, he did even better, relative to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 showing, in their suburbs. An analysis of the 2020 presidential vote by the economist Jed Kolko found that it was almost entirely the suburbs of large metros—not their downtown areas—that swung toward Democrats from 2016 to 2020.

"This problem is only going to get worse. One analysis of Census Bureau data projected that by 2040, roughly half of the population will be represented by 16 senators; the other, more rural half will have 84 senators at their disposal. If Democrats don’t find a way to broaden their coalition into less populous states with smaller metro areas, it may be impossible to pass liberal laws for the next generation. "

^A major demographic problem for Democrats.
And the framing problems they have been having:
" Instagram socialism usually functions as a crowd-sourcing exercise to brand widely appealing ideas in their most emotional and viral—and, therefore, most radical—fashion. Thus, major police reform (a popular idea) is branded “Abolish the Police” (an unpopular idea); a welcoming disposition toward immigrants (a popular idea) is blurred with calls for open borders (an unpopular idea); and universal health care (a popular idea) is folded into socialism (an unpopular idea).
" The average voter in a general election is something like a moderate 50-year-old woman without a four-year college degree who stays away from partisan media and follows politics only occasionally. She might hate Trump, but her dispositional conservatism makes her less likely to embrace policies tweaked in a social-media lab for viral emotionality."
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/11/why-big-city-dominance-problem-democrats/617161/

And there is an answer, from people like George Lakoff who has studied this for decades. The Democrats need to hit this framing note:
"the private depends on public resources, both private life and private enterprise. You can’t have a business without public resources like roads and bridges and airports and the electric grids. But private life is like that too. You need the same roads and bridges and airports and electric grid and much more. Without public resources, you can’t have private enterprise or private life.
"There is a way of talking to people, to say, “Imagine that you don’t have public resources. Imagine that there were no roads, that there were no airports, that there were no air traffic controllers and so on. Here’s what a public resource is. Imagine that it wasn’t there.”
And the Republicans might just say, “Well, privatize them — privatize roads, privatize airports.”
All very nice except that that won’t happen. If you privatize them, they become a matter of profit for people, and since you absolutely require them, [the private owners] can bilk you for as much as they want. That’s why they’re public resources."

This does not make sense
It does because when the systemic issues in our society are exposed with no shame given you no longer have the option of living in blissful ignorance. You either except it and go on in your privilege of being able to “live with it” or you acknowledge its existence and try to do something.
