I know in Latin countries, Negrito is something you say to your best mate or brother. He obviously didn't intend it to cause offence. It's a bit different to Suarez and Evra who hated each other on the pitch.

I think the anti-Utd side of the media will have a field day with this.
Is it common to say to it to someone who isn't black?

This is nothing like Suarez-Evra. Suarez got banned for telling Evra he kicked him because he was black.
We have a winner. Someone who has read the actual judgement and not Liverpool's PR to defend Suarez. Comparing Cavani and Suarez is like apples and oranges.

Obviously meant in a positive way with no understanding that it will be seen as negative in England. I suspect he’ll get banned but really should just be a matter of explaining that it shouldn’t be used going forwards. Annoys me that there’s no understanding of context in this type of scenario.

Is this is a joke? Anyone even remotely contemplating the idea that this should be considered as a ban worthy offense is off their meds.

I would imagine the word, like many words can have different meanings given the context. Unlike the Suarez incident, which was clearly abusive in the context of the row they were having, Cavani clearly was using the word in ehat he felt was a positive way towards Bruno.

The issue is whether this word is appropriate in any context. And given the definitions I can find from a google search it seems that white people shouldn't be the arbiters of whether this word is racist, but arguing it's not doesn't seem to have any foundation.

It does seem that he is going to have to explain himself and face the consequences of his actions, and rightly so

I just hope United don't go down some insane Dalglishian route of defending a player at all costs.
The FA surely aren't either though especially when it comes to language though is it? Especially when it's used towards your own team mate?
Why do people think this is towards a teammate/Bruno? The profile he responded to is ‘pabloferr2222’ - a profile with 62 followers.

Most likely take some form of action given how hot the country is on any form of racial behaviour now. Very idiotic thing to say. doesn’t matter if it is acceptable in your culture, you can’t be that uneducated to know this isn’t the correct thing to say.
Isn't it racist to tell a foreign language speaker his non racist (foreign) language is racist?

Get the feck out with that bollocks. Awful, awful take.
Don't get your knickers in a bunch.

It's a quote. A smart one.

If you can't see the context of that reply to a friend, then you're the one that's racist.
What if that's his nickname? His father worked in an Uruguayan coal mine or he fell in a bucket of black paint when they were together playing in the street.
The feck do i know.
Can i call my friend by his nickname if it has a word "black" in it?

Put things IN CONTEXT.

If he's racially insulting someone on Instagram, sure, by all means, ban him for the rest of the season.

Feet up at home.
If it takes as long as the investigation into the Spurs invasion into the stand and fizzles out the same then nothing to worry about here.

Very. Especially if they're darker skinned. It's also quite common for darker skinned people to refer to lighter skinned people as 'Cara Palida' or 'Pale Face.' Even if these people are nowhere near as light skinned as, for instance, a northern European.

Where your from doesn't answer the question really though does it?
You really are a snowflake, gosh. Genuinely can’t believe any grown up can take this matter seriously when actual racist problems are happening as we speak...

Meh. Probably get a reminder and asked to be more aware going forward..

Even the FA cant be stupid enough to hand out bans for nonsense like this.

As I said in the other thread, take off the rose tinted specs. Regardless of intention, he needs to be disciplined. If it were another team, we'd be saying the same.
Can’t agree with this take. In this context its very clearly a term of endearment.

You expect people to say thank you to him for using a racially insensitive term that has different contexts in different cultures?

You're the kind of bloke who defends Zwarte Piet aren't you?
I didn't expect you to say thank you, how would that make any sense. Even if he used a racially insensitive term, which he did, to express gratitude, how does that make you justified in expressing anger towards someone by calling them an absolute idiot. You probably don't know this but idiot used to be a really insensitive term too until people like you started to call each other that every day.

I can't see how the word negro or it's diminutive negrito can be racist in Spanish. Granted I'm not an expert in latin American culture.

If forcing someone to pay a fine or "PowerPoint" reeducation because of this sounds like a reasonable response, as a few of you seem to suggest above, you might as well just ban players from speaking in their language in social media.

Thank you ever so much for explaining actual racism to me. I didn't know before, and because of you, now I do.

And as I said, regardless of context people would be calling for a ban if it were another team. It's that simple.

Every possible use of this word was analysed to death during the Suarez incident.

Cavani has removed the post so the club have clearly advised him.

Cavani needs to explain himself, apologise, take the consequences and then he and everyone can move on. Defending it means straying into the idiotic territory Dalglish and Liverpool ended up in.

Well one obvious way is is you say, for example, 'I'm kicking you because you're black'. Hopefully this incident will be dealt with with common sense, but it's hardy a stretch to see how it could be racist. We need to know the context of the account he was replying to here, though.

Does this have global consequences? Should all Spanish-speaking countries ban this word?

I’m confused. Is Cavani trying to say thank you to Rashford for the assist or paying tribute to Maradona? Can’t see how he has anything to answer for in case of the latter.

Forget your boots at halftime, come on 20 seconds into the second half, play a vital role in a comeback win & then shoot yourself in the foot on social media.

This club is the gift that keeps on giving, you couldn’t write this

I am Uruguayan, same as Cavani, and probably the other person he is talking too...
Is England the law about how everyone in any country should communicate?
I mean, England will teach the world about not being racist? really?
You ask that tongue in cheek but there’s truth to it. The English think they have a say on everything in the world.
