Ole getting the T shirts printed as we speak.
Ole getting the T shirts printed as we speak.
Exactly. Now he can't use his native dialect, just in case someone might get offended without any context whatsoever. He's not racially abusing anyone. He's replying to a post in a friendly way, in Spanish. Who are the FA to tell Cavani what a Spanish word means?
I'm also Black and, basically, I agree with what you are saying.I'm a Black man and it saddens me that real racism has become conflated with political correctness and the social media era. Racism is that which maligns or is intended to malign another because of skin colour. Racism is not endless political correctness that can't even take language into account. There's racism in South America, and the Spanish speaking world. They, and not us, should be the arbiters of whether there was anything offensive here. As I understand it, Cavani was alerted as to how the term may be interprered in English! Just think about that...he can't even speak his language freely because of political correctness.
Suarez got in trouble because of context. My understanding was Suarez got in trouble because he claimed to use the word negrito when Evra was very definite he didn't. At worst I think Cavani's post has been lost in translation, hopefully common sense prevails.
Thanks. @SalfordRed18 that’s exactly what I meant....This type of outrage over things like this only undermines the actual issues and movements related to racism.I'm a Black man and it saddens me that real racism has become conflated with political correctness and the social media era. What doesn’t make it OK?It’s nothing like the Suarez incident, form what I can tell. Doesn’t make it okay.
Give him a one match ban, a fine and some cultural education. Then move on.
It won’t. The PL are deep in with the racial equality BLM stuff. Even if it’s a clear misunderstanding they’ll come down hard. Expect a 3 game ban minimum. My understanding was Suarez got in trouble because he claimed to use the word negrito when Evra was very definite he didn't. At worst I think Cavani's post has been lost in translation, hopefully common sense prevails.
Bernardo Silva got a one match ban for his "guess who" tweet with the conguito picture...It’s nothing like the Suarez incident, form what I can tell. Doesn’t make it okay.
Give him a one match ban, a fine and some cultural education. Then move on.
If you don’t understand the context, why isn’t it ok? Political correctness is killing society as it is. He’s done nothing wrong so why should he be banned? It’s nothing like the Suarez incident, form what I can tell. Doesn’t make it okay.

They gave Bernardo Silva a one match ban, no way Cavani is getting anything moreIt won’t. The PL are deep in with the racial equality BLM stuff. Even if it’s a clear misunderstanding they’ll come down hard. Expect a 3 game ban minimum.
They weren’t doing the Black Lives Matter campaign back then. They gave Bernardo Silva a one match ban, no way Cavani is getting anything more
Using terminology that could be misconstrued as a racial epithet on his global social media platform followed by millions seems a little careless and thoughtless, to me. Maybe I am misunderstanding the term he actually used, which is very possible. What doesn’t make it OK?
I've seen white argentinian families call one another 'negro', so this checks out. It is bizarre to think what the implied rule is if he's punished for this: when writing publicly in your native language, make sure it doesn't appear to be racist in another language...?From the plethora of South American friends that I have, the vast majority have indicated to me that this term is used prolifically as a term of endearment. I do find it somewhat interesting that British culture would judge South American culture for its own use of language with its own varying degrees of social acceptability.
Exactly. Suarez claim was found by the FA investigation to be implausible aka clearly made up.My understanding was Suarez got in trouble because he claimed to use the word negrito when Evra was very definite he didn't. At worst I think Cavani's post has been lost in translation, hopefully common sense prevails.
How is political correctness killing society? If you don’t understand the context, why isn’t it ok? Political correctness is killing society as it is. He’s done nothing wrong so why should he be banned?
B.Silva got 1 game for the Mendy thing. Equal punishment would be a complete joke.
Exactly what outrage are your referring to?Thanks. @SalfordRed18 that’s exactly what I meant....This type of outrage over things like this only undermines the actual issues and movements related to racism.
Don't you dare ever lecture me (or anyone you don't know for that matter) on what is and isn't racist when you don't know me, my background or my life. You really are a snowflake, gosh. Genuinely can’t believe any grown up can take this matter seriously when actual racist problems are happening as we speak...
You want to ban someone because he used a term that sounds close to another term that is offensive?Using terminology that could be misconstrued as a racial epithet on his global social media platform followed by millions seems a little careless and thoughtless, to me. Maybe I am misunderstanding the term he actually used, which is very possible.
It can mean “little black” or “sweetheart” considering he was talking to a white/Latin man it’s clearly not racist. The guys nickname might be little black for all we know. We’ve seen little pea with Hernandez, we don’t know the context so why should he be banned? He’s clearly not being abusive.Using terminology that could be misconstrued as a racial epithet on his global social media platform followed by millions seems a little careless and thoughtless, to me. They changed the rules so any ban has to be at least 3 matches for race related stuff. So he can’t get 1 match, it’s 3+ or none. They gave Bernardo Silva a one match ban, no way Cavani is getting anything more
Bernardo Silva got a one match ban for his "guess who" tweet with the conguito picture...
Cavanis post is fecking miles away from that.
What doesn’t make it OK?
Perhaps I should do more research here, seems like I may be wrong! I will seek to dictate myself on the nuance of what was actually said here, which I should have done before posting admittedly. If you don’t understand the context, why isn’t it ok? Political correctness is killing society as it is. He’s done nothing wrong so why should he be banned?
B.Silva got 1 game for the Mendy thing. Equal punishment would be a complete joke.
You sound disgusted. It won’t. The PL are deep in with the racial equality BLM stuff. Even if it’s a clear misunderstanding they’ll come down hard. Expect a 3 game ban minimum.
Intent or lack of does not always absolve, especially when it’s posted for many people all over the world to see, not just the recipient of the message. But like I say, happy to admit I am wrong here - in fact very relievedIt can mean “little black” or “sweetheart” considering he was talking to a white/Latin man it’s clearly not racist. Sounds a bit xenophobic to me. Like “our culture is so much more sophisticated than yours, we censor ourselves all the time”Isn't it racist to tell a foreign language speaker his non racist (foreign) language is racist?
See my reply to other postsYou want to ban someone because he used a term that sounds close to another term that is offensive?
Nose ring as well? You have purple hair, don't you
I agree, which is also why Silva got banned...Intent or lack of does not always absolve, especially when it’s posted for many people all over the world to see, not just the recipient of the message. But like I say, happy to admit I am wrong here - in fact very relieved
That’s a discussion for another day.How is political correctness killing society?
Still waiting for you to explain how political correctness is killing society...Sounds a bit xenophobic to me. Like “our culture is so much more sophisticated than yours, we censor ourselves all the time”
There's an entire fecking thread for that discussionStill waiting for you to explain how political correctness is killing society...
Wtf? Are you seriously trying to get offended over me mentioning the PL’s Black Lives Matter campaign? I sound disgusted? Please, tell me how so? How were you able to detect disgust in that perfectly innocuous sentence? You sound disgusted.
I agree completely - my initial post was meant to convey that I don’t see this as anything like the Suarez incident.I agree, which is also why Silva got banned...
But the FA, ref Suarez, has already accepted that in itself it's not a racist word..
The fact that you even ask the question means we’re not gonna agree, which means it’s a waste of time discussing it. Especially at 12.10 at night.Still waiting for you to explain how political correctness is killing society...
It’s mentioned in all the new Cavani articles. What? Link?
Me too.Always wondered about that one
