Is our fanbase the most entitled/ knee jerk toxic fanbase around?

most of us know that the match day thread should be avoided, as it’s pretty horrible.

but is our fanbase horrific, or is this how every fanbase react?

is this a symptom of a global fanbase? Is this just how modern fans react?

the negativity on here is astonishing. As soon as we concede, we see the ‘ole out’ threads bumped, we see new threads created to slag off Henderson, we see threads bumped which are pseudo player performance threads to bash players.

does anyone have any patience anymore?

more importantly, do these fans actually enjoy Watching football, or do they prefer to find the negative in every single match?

anyone who is positive gets accused of ‘accepting mediocrity’.

do other clubs laugh at our shocking fans base, or are their ‘Internet fans’ just as bad?

It’s pretty bad tbh. I try to avoid much online footy conversation nowadays, as I’m becoming more and more easily triggered as I age. The narrative around us and from our own fans is boringly toxic at this point.

Most fans are backing Ole despite the fact he's not got a great managerial pedigree. Let's see how the season pans out. I'd love him to succeed, and for the first time since Fergie, it sometimes feels like UNITED.

We have an embarrassing fanbase.

That much is obvious.

The people who have shown Ole nothing but vitriol this season despite us being second if we win a game in hand.

I shut a lot of people up the other day by asking how many more points Ole should have got. You saw people really engaging and struggling to verbalise the response.

Its a generation of United supporters that grew up under Ferguson and think that that is just how its supposed to be all the time.

We're incredibly knee jerk. I've seen posters deciding after 5 minutes that Telles is a clear upgrade on Luke Shaw. Then similarly tonight with many proudly claiming a single mistake from Henderson after 5 minutes was clear proof he wasn't ready to start for us. Can get very frustrating

Are you guys really that insecure that you're affected by reading some posts on the internet criticizing the team or the manager ? Do you want to live in a la la land in which everyone just talks rosy about United and nothing else ? And even though, how come some negative posts by a random person you don't even know get your triggered ?

I've participated in the Matchday thread tonight and have done for most matches for the past few years and I actually find them pretty fun. This thing of how they're horrible, mentally fatiguing and corrosive to the soul seems to have passed me by; there's some good chat, there are funny comments and every so often someone will say something ridiculous and get called on it. It's all part of the fun to me.

The one moment I got momentarily perturbed by today was when vdB didn't make the obvious pass to Rashford and about 20 people all gave him similar pelters. To be fair the comments were all reasonable as it was a poor bit of football, but the combined effect of all the posts makes it look like vdB is getting brutal dog's abuse, whereas in reality he's getting the same low-level telling off 20 times . Honestly I think the levels of entitlement and moaning in MDTs are easy to put up with in the heat of the moment, however I understand it can be grating for those looking for interesting debate coming across nothing but the same arguments and agenda posts in most every thread (but a quick look around the internet makes it clear the United fanbase and the Caf are not the only guilty parties on that score).

I could handle them being either angry, naive or stupid but they're often all 3 at once. Honestly, they're the fecking worst.

Every thread is spammed with anti-Ole gibberish, even when it's not on topic. @Schmeichel's Cartwheel takes the prize for that particular indiscretion. Dude, you really need to find either a new opinion or a new hobby.

I’ll been going to matches since the early 90’s, before we became the Fergie powerhouse.
And well.... people moan, always have, always will.
Moaned about Giggs’s crossing, about show pony Ronaldo, about Nani, about Zlatan.... nothing has changed in 30 years.
Many football fans moan, even during times of pure dominance.

I mean the matchday thread is always fickle.

We've all been guilty of it.

Don't see how it makes the fanbase as a whole entitled. If anything, we're too lenient.

Yes.

That’s the issue.

The issue in this forum is that fans want to live in la la land. The real problem is too many people are positive on this forum.

I think it's just today's society, everything has to be NOW, so the caf is just mirroring that.
It would be interesting to see the age groups of those who want immediate results and performances, and those who would give Ole time to get the players he wants.
How long did SAF take to get the players he wanted, and to start being more consistant, 3, 4 seasons?
I never expected United to challenge, or be anywhere near the top this season, but we are close, along with about 8 other teams.
We pretty much know what areas we need to improve, and when we do, then we can really see if Ole is the right man or not.

this sort of post is part of the problem. I’d like a sensible, constructive discussion - without it being a race to the bottom in terms of negativity.

it’s not a not about being insecure, but shouldn’t the forum be called out if it’s toxic? More often than not, it’s not a nice place to post. I know, if I don’t like it, I can do one... but I like discussing football, and this used to be a great place to do that.

Perhaps some people just enjoy looking at everything in a negative light, but wouldn’t it be nice to see support for the team rather than the other way round?

Is it me or is there a perception of if you come back it is a shit performance or if you are better second half you got away with it. I mean if we were 3-0 up and then went 3-1 - no one would bat an eyelid but because we went down first and then scored 3, it is almost as if it doesn’t count and we shouldn’t have been behind to begin with.

We have the most fans, so we have a bigger amount of horrible fans than most other clubs.

But yeah we also have a big amount of entitled fans who were used to us winning so much that they can't accept a season being progress from last unless we are challenging on all fronts.

We’re the biggest club in the world and so strive for the best. This makes the fan base volatile when it doesn’t works out

We've won 5 and drawn 1 of our last games in the league. Top of the form table.

We've got the 2nd most pts in the entire year of 2020, just behind Liverpool.

If we win our game in hand we go 2nd.

And fans are losing their sh1t. Can you imagine how bad it would be if we were Arsenal?

Think covid and this awful year has got people proper worked up.
