I've read somewhere he wanted reassurances he's going into the first team or thereabouts, not the youth setup. Encouraging, all the small signals about him are very positive.
They should sent him videos of how Fred, Matic and McT usually play. That will reassure him greatly.

I love how much our scouting and transfers have improved over the past few years. We went from one Suarez a year and being linked to every WC player on the planet to solid signings that align with a philosophy.

If we look back at some of the not so well known names we signed:

Bruno: We basically got a free run at his signing. Not one top club was interested. Lots of people doubted his ability to make the step up and I don’t think anyone expected him to do as well as he’s done so far.

Haaland, Bellingham: No one knew who these guys even were. Yes we lost them to Dortmund (and we will continue to get beaten by other clubs in the future as well) but us + Dortmund were the only two clubs in for them.

Diallo, Pellestri and Caicedo look very promising and even if one of these work out at a level expected of a 50m signing we’d come out ahead.

James: I guess it’s not fair to not call out the misses. Took a punt on him and it doesn’t look like he’s going to make the grade here (despite a good performance against Leeds)

We're taking on the Dortmund model now. That's great - it just means we've dropped our ego that United academy players are cream of the crop. We had a good run in the early 90s but haven't produced world-class talent since then. Time to go the Dortmund way.
Which of Dortmund’s academy players are so much better than Pogba? Which of their academy players have gone on to be classed as world class? When they generally produce players who are good in their system and in their league, does that make them world class?

I think you misunderstood his post. The Dortmund way doesn't rely on academy products but rather on good scouting.

Its not even Dortmund way, we did it in the past and this is something that most clubs do.

As much as I like us signing new young players, I don't think they will get chances to play in our current squad. I believe they should be loaned out to other EPL clubs or ones competing in Europe to develop them further (even championship for <20 yrs). We do send out a few but I would like the number to be higher

Eh? Even if you take the class of 92, the only "pure" academy kids were Scholes, Butt and the Nevilles. Giggs and Beckham were both taken from other youth teams.

From the clips in this thread he looks decent. A move in the right direction as we badly need a 6.

Very excited by this kid. Not so long ago midfield was our biggest problem. Suddenly we have Bruno, VDB, McT, Fred who are excellent first team options, Hannibal, Levitt and Garner who are very promising youngsters coming through the system.

Even if Pogba, Mata and Matic are nearing the end of their united careers, we still look in very good condition in midfield.

Dortmund do both though, all clubs do. We’ve even been directly in competition for 2 of their recent signings, so not really getting where the op is coming from at all?

Red Card for Casemiro!
Just watched a couple of videos, looks like Fred doesn't he? Agile tackles, unconventional carry of the ball, desire to take a shot, work rate, passing.

Never heard of him until 5 minutes ago now i'm dying to sign him and will be gutted if we don't.
Same. It’s a shame he won’t be able to win the Balon D’Or though, if he does sign as Diallo has that wrapped up already.

Enjoyed this!
Just got a few scares knowing that some of those tackles of his, he won't get away with in England.

But loved his ability and passing on the ball, love this, hope I didn't waste my time watching that video and he doesn't sign for us
I don't know. He got there as early as he could

Thanks brother, I usually focus on Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay but didn’t start following Ecuador until last year, when IDV (Caicedo’s club) appointed Miguel Angel Ramirez as head coach. He was of interest to me because he spent quite a few years at Qatar’s Aspire Academy, which is one of the best sports institutions here in our neck of the woods. He was part of the very successful Spanish contingent of coaches at the Academy, one of which was Felix Sanchez who ended up winning the Asian Cup with the Qatar NT, playing very attractive football with domestic youngsters and destroying the bigger Asian national teams on the way (Saudi, Korea, Japan) and they also spanked us 4-0 in our own backyard. Ramirez actually worked with Sanchez for a few years before that as both were involved in coaching Qatar’s youth teams.

IDV is a very small club in Ecuador that does not even have a permanent home stadium and they are mostly focused on bringing through young players from their youth system. Ramirez got the job there (which is when I started watching them) and ended up winning the Sudamericana (Europa League in South America) last year which was quite a shock for many in SA. They then put up a good fight in this year’s Libertadores and slapped the champions Flamengo 5-0 in the groups (Moises scored and assisted). Dominated Nacional but got knocked out on pens. Coincidentally, Moises was injured during the 2 legs.

In general, he really made his breakthrough earlier this year and Ramirez started to trust him as he became a major part of the side and then the national team. I won’t say he’s 100% going to make it in Europe but you would struggle to find a more talented youngster on that continent at the moment (Gabriel Veron arguably the only one more talented, Pedro De La Vega/Zaracho/Almada are close but not better).

As I said earlier in the thread, great move because the risk is low and reward potentially very high.
Cheers for the info @NYAS, great work.

Depends what you mean by 'taken'.

Those two were mad Utd fans.
Beckham was at the Bobby Charlton soccer school when he was about 11/12. He trained with Spurs among others but signed form with Utd when he was 14.

Giggs was only at the City 'Centre of Excellence' but played for Salford Boys. He also signed for us when he was 14.

I wouldn't say they were taken

Romano is an absolute spoofer. Knows no more about this than the United muppitiers I'd say
That’s true. It doesn’t take being an Einstein to say that “board and manager must make final decision on the transfer” - everyone understands it even without Romano

I know these compilation videos can be largely pointless but he really does look a talent. Love these types of signings.

This is becoming more and more apparent. Fecking bluffer. After days of regular reporting by others, he comes out with 'bid expected soon'. The cheek... I fully expect him to come out with an explanation for why the deal was closed quicker than he suggested when the kid signs next week.

Why? This isn't the Ferguson winning machine of yesteryear in which there were clear and determined stars in every position. None of Fred, McTominay and Matic are undisputed starters for us, despite being in the first team for a number of years and, in the case of Fred and Matic, being bought for big money. Greenwood was our first choice for the right wing despite only being 17 and it not being his favoured position! If anything, now is exactly the right time for a young player to come in and make a position his own at United. We have enough depth that they'll be afforded rests to protect their development, but they can easily get the game time and exposure they need to hone their game playing top flight football.

Romano is just covering all his bases. Hasn't had any real United for a while and it blatantly showed during the summer.

I got hammered for saying this every day in the last transfer window.

He's an absolute bullsh*tter. painfully obvious.

Romano has some kind of mental affliction which makes him want people to believe he’s got inside knowledge. He just loves to convey some kind of mystery and intelligence when the opposite is true-basically when he says something believe the opposite and you won’t go far wrong. Ballague has the same affliction. I think it stems from them lacking in something and craving attention.

I mean, the player is not even playing in Europe, so doubt Romano has any real info. Seems to be just repeating old stuff and covering all rumours. If Pellestri got a work permit, then this should be no issue here either. And at a cheap 5m signing, we are not turning this down.

Wardrobe.
He should be able to get a work permit after featuring 4 times for the Ecuador national team this year - I think that will give Man United grounds for the exceptional talent initiative.

He looks really talented and this could turn out to be a coup. Hopefully he comes and does well.

I'm just trying to see where he will get his minutes because Europa is now a single leg affair. Maybe Watford in the FA Cup and if we need to rotate heavily in the league for whatever reason, but I expect us to go full-strength in the league. However, maybe he's better than we think and will play more than I anticipate
