Losing to Comeback Winning!
What the hell, Matic is huge ego and have thin skin. It's his job as a DM to do better in stopping player and Bruno is just pointing it out.

It's just like Lindelof, don't want to admit their shittiness and accept responsibility.

The best Matic can do here is to scold back Bruno for making those misplaced passes and losses possession a lot higher up the pitch. Instead of shoving Bruno back. Poor response.

Entertaining Match
Ole deserves all the credit for the Match, he managed it extremely well. You could see from the substitutions made that the game had been planned out well.
Didn't think we were going to have a great performance after seeing the starting line up, but we controlled the match played some really good and fluent football, for the most part.
Pogba and Cavani were excellent, Axel also impressed especially considering that he was playing on the right, I thought that would give us problems before the game started.

It is nice to have two games in a row where we have genuinely looked very good, IMO Ole best game with us.

Eric Bailey is a liability everytime he plays. He just has rush challenges, doesn't think straight.

You could see that we missed Fred and McT. Matic was great. Pogba actually put some effort tonight.

Cavaniiii

Greenwood has gone bit missing

I like many others give Paul a bit of stick but it was nice to see Ole and Mike give him some praise at the end before walking into the tunnel and he was genuinely happy at receiving it.

Thought we played excellent in the first 20 mins. On the front foot and dare I say it reminded me of the old days slightly.

Just need to keep it up. I know it's only the semis of the carling cup but I want to see us lift a trophy, it's been too long for a club like us.

Great little run here, we're building something special. We need better CB's though. Maguire should be playing the Europa Leagues and EFL games... a proper partner for Lindelof will help us dramatically.

If we keep playing like this we can beat anyone
I hope Ole uses his head and look for variations in winning the game. Against Leeds he was spot on with using James. I would start him against Alexander Arnold and let him run at it or get him to run at him at every opportunity. Then bring on Rashford to do the same.

I wish we’d signed Cavani 5 years ago. What a guy.

Very good game from us, aside from a few minutes our back line looked pretty solid and our full backs did well to press up the pitch. 2-0 flatters Everton massively but it is also an ode to our disgraceful finishing this season.

Overall it was a good team performance, we made 9 changes and it looked seamless, very positive sign.

We definitely played better with a quick CB alongside Maguire, however Ole doesn't seem keen to break up the partnership. You also see the best of Telles when he doesn't have to tuck in and protect our CB's.

Could we not play Maguire alongside Bailly in the big games and Lindelof with Tuanzebe when looking to rotate a bit.

Typical league cup, a half decent game but without that edge that comes from the really important matches. We could have made things a lot easier for ourselves by scoring in that first half an hour or so when we completely dominated, but a late win is always fun so no harm done.

* Cavani is turning out to be a lot more useful than I expected
* Hopefully Martial's form will start to flow now. After 2 goals and 1 assist (including a pen) in his first 12 appearances he now has 2 goals & 4 assists in his last 3 games.
* A clean sheet, but the defence still looks like our achilles heel
* Our squad depth is actually great deep these days - 9 changes and we can still put out a really strong team
* Our away form - damn.

I don’t know how I’m being sensitive, just in plain disagreement that the chances created the first 30 mins or the last ten can be included in ‘no creativity’. There was a reason we didn’t score until the 88th minute, and that reason was that Cavani missed three chances in the five yard box and three other duels with The Swede, Greenwood headed ten centimetres wide, Bruno missed a few final passes he usually finds, Van de Beek hit Coleman from a good position. It was not that United created nothing, which is what you imply. I counted six dangerous United attacks the last ten minutes as well.

If you said United created almost nothing and were sloppy forward the middle 60% of the game, it would have been easy to agree with you. It’s just a bit hard to understand what you saw when you put the tag ‘no creativity’ on the entire match. It makes it seem like you came in late, went to bed early and decided you were going to disbelieve everyone who said United were impressivefor the parts you missed. It just sounds very strange, that’s all. Not offending. Just weird.

Hope you’re not offended by this.
No I watched the full match. There was a handful of decent chances early as you mention. I think we faced a passive and poor Everton who didn’t wake up until the last minutes of the match and yet we couldn’t score because a big part of the match we weren’t creative enough.

Really liked Tuanzebe on the right, solid, never missed AWB. Perfect cover if we are looking for like for like replacement.

I love how Bruno loses his marker, a two step and into space. Really makes his opponent on edge.

Finally, it seems all premier league managers do not want Mason Greenwood to face goal, he seems to never get that half a second where he’s turned and facing goal on the edge of the box and is uber deadly.

He and the team will figure this out no doubt and he’ll reign supreme again.

Martial keep getting them goals you will be critical.

I'm sure he will if the two boys can stay fit for 5 mins.

From what I can see his preferences is to have one of the quick ones with one of the slow ones but the quick ones are never fit.

This was weird. Everton away is supposed to be a tough game but at no point did I feel stressed or nervous.
Thought that last time we played them.... not very impressed with the toffees.

Really enjoyed the opening 20 minutes - and not many people can say they've done that in other away games this season! Usually when teams start well but don't score, they end up conceding first and possibly losing but we rarely looked troubled last night (still think Deano looked very nervous again which i don't really understand given how many games he's played in the PL).

Bruno was brilliant, Pogba looked assured and I was fairly sure Cavani was going to score at some stage, although I thought it was likely to be a tap-in.

Bailly, Telles and Axel all looked pretty good - I still don't like us playing out from the back, and don't think we are as strong as Gary Nev thinks the squad is but at least everyone seems to be enjoying playing again.

Don't see us winning the competition but keeping the winning streak going is important. I might even stat to be convinced things afre improving if we get a win at Leicester; possibly our most difficult domestic game so far this season

We really should have taken a few more of our chances I think, particularly in the first 20 minutes or so.

Despite their slight clash, I thought Bruno and Matic both played well.

Pleased for Martial. I think this is the start of his purple patch.

Pretty much. I got a bit frustrated at our slightly wasteful nature in front of goal, but thought we'd got one in eventually. Everton never looked like doing anything.

He's a proper Man United player.
Correct. When he is on the pitch, the opposition will always have to be aware that he is very much a match winner.
I particularly like the quick start that we have done at the Leeds and this game. It has to be better to start quickly than having to become more intense later on.

Thought it was probably one of our best games under Ole. Very mature performance, a couple of squeaky bum moments but largely comfortable, solid, we attacked, kept our shape, defence looks mostly assured and we stayed patient and took the goals we deserved. The plaudits may go to Cavani or Martial but Bailey was my MoTm. His pace at the back allowed us to go forward more and Maguire was fully covered. We are desperate for a new centre back than can play 50 games and has pace, can run with the ball and can defend.

I am Ole out but if he keeps this up, things can change. I never say never, I am intrigued to see how we move forward. It feels better than the other two good runs we had under him, feels more consistent.

That was a very relaxing watch. United looked completely at ease and comfortable against a very in-form team. The defence looked solid and at no time made for nervous viewing. Bailly and Tuanzebe had very good games and their pace completely snuffed out Everton.

The only slight complaint was Maguire and Matic taking too many touches and holding on to the ball.

I watched much of the game last night, didn't see the last 15mins, but what I saw was the most impressive I have seen us in a long while. Why? Because we looked like a unit, a team... it was not about quick counter-attacking, Bruno/Rashford Inspirations... we lookedsolid and organised without the ball (well, fairly... ) .. we started v well, Everton recovered, and then we matched up. Set pieces looked good (Telles looked decent last night on these, and he is settling well...). We cannot (and should not..) be a team that relies upon inspirational moments, from individuals... that's not a strong team attribute, that's a very-nice-to-have. (Note PSG anouncement this morning...)

Cavani makes a HUGE difference to us. Pedigree, experience, class, attitude, example. We need more of that at the club, especially across the back.

VDB is short on confidence, he has been treated poorly.

I am still not happy with OGS, and it will be interesting what he takes from this game and performance. I still do not think he knows his best side. I don't either.

Why is that? I can't see why he has been treated poorly. Other players are better than him at the moment. He isn't going to replace Bruno and an in-form Pogba is twice the player. He'll get other opportunities, but he has to take them. Everytime I see him play I've been underwhelmed. People always point out his Ajax days, but he was outshone by a bunch of players there.

Best game of the season.
You must be kidding me! that was such a snooze fest. It was such a slow game. We play at snail's pace and the way we move out from the defense kills me every time. It is so easy to mark and any other opponent with good quality high press will make our lives a living hell. United need to move the ball much faster from the back line. Maguire takes so many touches before moving the ball on, it is so boring and predictable.

It is going to be a tough game against City in the cup because they push hard to win domestic trophies. Pep is never happy without a trophy every year and if it is not the league or CL, he will keep pushing to win the domestic competitions and we need to win against City and if we do, I'll be pretty confident we'll win the cup. We need to be more desperate because we haven't won a trophy under Ole and he's done more within the club than Jose ever did. He deserves to win a trophy, in fact I feel if we buy a couple of decent players for DM and CB we can challenge for the title as well. Our front 4 are solid, It is the lindelof-maguire partnership that worries me the most. We need a quick CB and a DM who can bring out the ball from our own half into the opponents half. With the addition of Pellestri and Amad Diallo, we will have young energetic minds and Cavani is the best addition we could ask for in attack. The amount of work he puts in every game is astounding, he chases after every ball and makes keepers and defensive players anxious all the time. We need more such hungry players in the team and when that happens, we'll win many titles.

To make that many changes, still play some good stuff and win is real progress for this squad.

That's not what I'm seeing there. Looks to me like he's taking the criticism on the chin, and then telling Bruno to get back in his area. "Yeah yeah, now get back up there" more like. It's not so much a shove as a bit of physical guidance. Fine response as far as I can tell.

It's a recurring theme when listening to opposing managers. Ole's standing among his peers is rising. Guardiola playing two defensive mids against United is also a testament of this.
Very good point. Chelsea came for a draw too.

Yeah it's probably very much a case of like you say being able to trust them two to stay fit

I’m happy with a win but disappointed with how we played. There were so many poor passes and it was slow and no creativity. Pogba and Bailly were the two positives for me.
The first 30 minutes were probably the best we played in this season, just couldn't finish to save our lives. Obviously high risk players like Fernandes might cause the game will go like this, but we created enough to be 3:0 up at halftime and save some energy.

I am personally happy that we started so strong, better to have a stronger opening part than chasing the game like usual.

High praise all the way around, even allowing for minor quibbles that aren’t worth worrying about, is warranted.

My only complaint is that Fernandes and Maguire weren’t rested and we’ve got two very difficult opponents coming up over the next six days.
