SAF’s comments have always stuck with me in regards to the title race - if you’re there or thereabouts come the end of January you have a chance. The table is still so tight and if we lose a couple we could still easily drop to 8th/9th. So not getting carried away just yet......

If we beat Villa I'll start to entertain the possibility of us being in the running. Until then I'm just waiting for the big slump in results we come to expect with Ole.

It's too early in the season to build up a title challenge. I agree with Rashford that we should take one day at a time.

We're not going to be anywhere near the title until we hire a better manager but I'll enjoy this moment nonetheless.

Whenever I’m positive we drop points, whenever I’m negative we win...

There is no way this bunch of journeymen & our PE teacher of a manager will win this league. No chance in hell... ;)

If we beat Villa, it's honky tonk on! The league needs such a massive game as the Anfield one will be if we win our next.

Not as if we are 2 points off top.

Yep agreed.

But I still think Citeh are capable of putting a run together and it's convenient they now have two games in hand.

80-86 points will probably win the title this season.

My thoughts from elsewhere relevant here too. I swear there are posters here genuinely pissed off to have won.

Lumbering into threads pretending that they're looking at the bigger picture when really they're just so deeply dug into their Internet sustained loathing.

The state of so many posters here. No team in the history of football has ever won shit without at least 6 or 7 games like that a season.

For 2 years Liverpool have dug out rotten wins when they've played poorly only for this forum to melt down in collective masturbation about 'character' and klopp making his players believe.

Ram packed schedule, no fans, one of the best organised teams in league with historically low scoring games against them, peak fergie would have given his left nut for any win in this circumstance.

What are we on, 23 from 27? Be proud of the team you supposedly support. Revel in the fecking joy of a late winner against a side who did everything to ruin that game as a spectacle.

This side can't win in most people's eyes and to be honest I love it the way I love rival fans bitter salty tears.

Drink them in

I think the players have to do that but we can afford to dream a little.
Even for fans though, it's putting unnecessary pressure on the players if we keep saying that. If we are in top 2-3 spots late January then the players will know by default that they are in a title race.

Also, this team hasn't been in a title run ever so I hope Ole is working on the mental side of things too.

You bore off  I'm completely entitled to think we're nowhere good enough to win a title under Ole while still enjoy being 2nd at the current moment.

I hope we get to play it before football is locked down but then again, we could use a mental regroup too.

Well said. I was frustrated by the lack of ambition during the game and the slow zombie passing but you make a good point. The players are definitely tired and it isn't easy to break through a low block like that on most days and our record hasn't been the best against teams that play this way.

Full credit to the boys for somehow getting over the line.

Being two points off top after 15 games is definite improvement, that's something we can build on. Our consistency, both in terms of performances between matches and in terms of quality during 90 minutes of football, remains a worry though. I feel like we're slightly punching above our weight at the moment and results will catch up with us eventually. But let's stay positive, there's a core of a potentially very good team here, as long as we keep heading in the right direction.

That's it. Go back and watch any old season review we love and you'll see these games all the time. This is the premier league, wolves are a really good side.

I'm absolutely buzzing tonight. Huge win

Not getting carried away yet, as our home form had been very patchy. Also, if the team's finishing can be improved that would certainly build confidence. Right now you are so right, the mental state of the team would determine if they can mount a challenge or crumble. Ability wise, i am sure everyone knows they have. Just build that winning mentality and concentration, while keeping grounded.

This is as close as we've been in years. Give the guy some credit, or if you cant bring yourself to do that, as least refrain from banging on about what you think about him where its not needed

Whilst some of the performances have been frustrating it's definitely an encouraging place to be particularly as I think our main problem to overcome is something we can solve through coaching/training, being our attacking movement. We've got the talent in attack but repeatedly are too slow, too many players wanting ball to feet etc. If we can really focus on that and open teams up more often it'll make a massive difference.

Doesn't mean we can't add to the squad etc but if we can get the attack to click more and get luck with injuries then I think we have a chance to at least put forward a real challenge, particularly when you think that some of our players e.g. Martial, Greenwood definitely aren't at their best yet. In defence as well Bailly is looking encouraging and at very least offers us an extra option.

If Ole keeps winning matches then I don't care how he wins them.
I would rather we score in the last minute and win rather score in the first minute and draw or lose.

When your under performing and be in the position we are in is a positive, I think of it as we've got plenty of scope to improve and when we do we can only get better.

If it goes ahead, then the game against Liverpool in just over two weeks time is going to be absolutely huge!

Thankfully we are in January, let's see what we do in the market. What if Diallo becomes an x factor off the right or we sign Caceido and he improves our midfield, or Ole trusts VDB in midfield or Bailly remains Maguire's partner. United have a lot of potential right now and for the first time since SAF, I think we finally have a squad that needs a few tweaks. For me, sorting Pogba out is one.

Somewhat surprised we have the joint 2nd most goals scored in the league (with Chelsea, 7 behind Liverpool). Our defence is simply letting us down, only 6 teams have a worse defensive record than us.

We are 100% in the title fight!

Many folks said the Liverpool game will be a decider but I don’t think so.. they had a tough time against relegation teams (Fulham & west brom) so I can’t see them giving much fight to us, Spurs, city, Leicester and Everton. All of whom they play in the next month or so.

The way I see it, their honeymoon is over and tough games are coming up.

People forget that and how we did it regularly under SAF even with the likes of Rooney and Ronaldo whenever they try to put Ole down and praise Klopp up. Of course, there is some gap between them at this point.

But, you gotta win ugly at times for everyone to take you seriously. Let them worry that no matter what they do, we will find a way to win it. It is a must needed quality for any title challenging team.

Get through the next few games especially the pool game and I’ll certainly join the calls of a possible title run

No worries, sorry for ruining your night with a post that actually mentioned I'm enjoying the moment. Hope we genuinely challenge for the title but I've always been a realist. If that's put of bounds now I may as well bugger off.

The selective interpretations of pretty much every scenario good or bad is downright embarrassing. So many posts resemble some deluded political nuts from twitter hell bent on doing anything but lose face

We would have drawn or lost this game last season, guaranteed.

Believe me, we're in this title race for sure.

For us, I think it's 10 games too soon to feel like we're in the race.

We've been nowhere near for years, so I'd like to see us there or thereabouts in the final third of the season before I get too excited.

Still think this squad is generally mentally weak, and one or two consecutive poor results could knock the stuffing out of them.

That being said it's been a serious turnaround and it looks like there is some real confidence within the team now.

It’s great that we won and it puts us in a good position, but we’ve got to capitalise on that for it to mean anything.
We’ve been lucky, coming within a whisker of another draw, after pissing away the points against Leicester, when all the other contenders were dropping points left right and centre.
That late goal tonight could make all the difference, but if those other teams hadn’t been drawing over the Christmas period and we’d ended up with another draw tonight, then it would have looked rather gloomy heading into January.
But we are where we are, so come on you reds. Villa is a must win!
Win and we can have a good go at them filthy scousers.

I was thinking about that as well. One can hope. We could even be going into new year top of the table. It's unlikely but possible.

What strikes me is you are in this position while under performing a bit, if you’d played beyond the squads ability to get here I’d expect a return to reality, but this squad has so much more to give, quite a few players have been playing below their best, so with a bit of form in the new year, when you traditionally improve, things could be looking very good.
