What are the chances of Grealish being a bit worse for wear on New Year’s Day...
Hopefully we will see a picture of him wearing two non-matching slippers again.

Big match for us, the pressure doesn't relent as with the win last night it makes this game so important to stay near the top.

Personally I would rest one of Rashford or Bruno, with the option to bring them on. The league is the focus for me, but both of them look in need of a rest and the City game does bring chance of silverware. City are very beatable for us and surely the game can't be as poor as last time (worst of the season tied with Arsenal vs Chelsea).

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof/Bailly Maguire Shaw
    Scott Fred
    Greenwood VDB James
    Martial

Pogba on for James if he has a stinker.

Much more confident about this one than Wolves if I'm honest. Villa will be looking to get forward far more than Wolves did and it should be a far more open game.

It just has to be a more entertaining game

Sorry but we need to rest Bruno and Rashford for this game.

Yes they are our best players at the moment, but if we want to have them fresh for (if not postponed) City and Pool they need to rest and come of the bench.

    My team

    --------------------------------------De Gea------------------------------------
    Wan Bissaka-----------Bailly---------Maguire--------------Telles
    -------------------------------Fred----------Mc Tominay------------------
    James-----------------------Van de Beek----------------------Pogba

Oh I remember that Agbonlahor winner. We really should have won that match as well, however. And I think that loss ended some crazy unbeaten/ winning run at OT as well.

Pool is two weeks after this game. We can rest players in the FA Cup.

There is no chance we rest Bruno.

With the likelihood that the City game gets postponed, he can sit out the Watford game and be ready to face Liverpool on the 17th

People suggesting resting our two best players against one of the most in-form teams in the league; it can’t and won’t happen for obvious reasons

    McFred will be fresh.
Martial and Shaw to start too after coming on as subs yesterday.

Might need to give Dan James a whirl in this one too.

Unless they try and jam Burnley away in pre Liverpool.

We can’t rest Bruno or Rashford here unfortunately. Villa are, on form, a much tougher test than Wolves. They’ll need to get through this one and City, if it goes ahead, before any rest.

First choice team here (assuming Lindelof still injured):

    DDG

    AWB
    Bailly
    Maguire
    Shaw

    McT
    Fred

    Greenwood
    Bruno
    Rashford

    Martial

This will be a lot more open than the game we saw against Wolves, and AWB will have to be positionally extremely efficient against Grealish. We should be able to put them away, however, if we take our chances. Not very confident, but hell, the most confident I have been about a United side in years.
Grealish has been playing 10 with el ghazi on the left wing. Saying that though el ghazi has 5 in 5, and grealish is a dangerous counter attacking weapon.

they’re absolutely flying at the moment, midfield battle will be key. Fred and Scott v mcginn and luiz will be great to watch.

mcginn especially is a great player.

No thanks. This isn't the game for him.

    De Gea

    McTominay--Fred
    Rashford--Bruno--Pogba
    Martial

    or Greenwood--Bruno--Rashford

Aston Villa seems to play their best 11 all the time. So we are going to meet that team. They have good organisation on the pitch and are though team. Robust in defence with pacy players upfront.

Goalkeeper and defence picks themself although I would like to see Tuanzebe as right fullback. Not that vanBissaka is bad in defence but going forward he is as dangerous as DeGea. There should not be a suprise that we see McTominay and Fred as holding midfielders. Upfront, we might need to rotate little. Marital will surly play attacker and I can see Rashford, Fernandes and vanderBeek being behind him. Although, I would like to see Rashford on the bench for this game. Fernandes needs a rest to but we can't rest them all.

Best XI for this. Villa are no joke this season.
What’s our best 11, I don’t think even Ole knows. As long as it’s not Pogba and Matic combo in midfield and Eric should retain his place, I’d be confident we can do ok.

Crazy to suggest Bruno not starting, absolutely 100% should start.

I'd start McFred in CM and Rashy/Martial on the right/left

No worries, Bruno did not scored or assisted yesterday, so that a garenteed 2 goals for us.
And who made an assist to Rashford yesterday, Santa Claus? :)

By the way, is Diallo eligible for selection for Villa match?

You need players that are going to counter press McGinn and Grealish in this one. Especially McGinn who has been playing like a rabid dog this season.

I would too but highly doubt Ole would play vdb with Fred. I think vdb is just as combative as Mctominay but better attacking wise.
McTominay is very fit, faster, stronger. 5000m in 15 min. Donny is a backup to Bruno, that is the way Ole thinks about it.

Gotta agree with this assessment. But I will take a drab 1-0 victory here, no two thoughts about it.

Villa fans are so confident for this game. I understand it but at the same time it really annoys me!

I really hope we put a couple past them and humble them! Obviously the 3 points is what matters the most

I fancy us more if they actually come to play, teams like wolves will always be more of a pain IMO.

they just drew with Chelsea away though so let’s not pretend this will be easy. If we are at our best though we should win.

Confident in what, let me ask? It’s pretty obvious that we have better players, with the majority of these players putting in a lot of efforts. And they only have Grealish (who may actually be somewhat drunk on January 1st...)

Ole's first real test. Hope he is up for it.

I'd expect McFred back in midfield after being well rested. Shaw and martial should be back as well. Hopefully Lindelof too, cause we really cannot trust Bailey as a CB for 90 minutes

Would worry for rashford and bruno to start this one. They do need a break but we cannot afford them one.
What a shitshow of a post, first of all he´s Bailly, by now you should know how to spell that and pronounce it , it´s not difficult.

Second you really want the trainwreck Lindelof who was responsible for nearly a goal a game last season. This season he´s a bit better btu still very weak defensively in duels and the stakes that he will cost us with his non defending are certainly higher than Bailly´s errors.

Eric´s been great when he came back, except the game against Tottenham when the whole team failed. Deserves run of games like Lindelof who really can´t complain about gametime, being already in match rhytm.. Also would be a good indication of Bailly´s fitness and wheather he can be sort of reliable for the next season when we are in for another CB.

Also indefinitely better fit with Maguire.

The team picks itself for this one bar RW, Ole will be terrified of Grealish so I wouldn't be surprised to see Dan James inclusion just to double up with AWB on him.

I don't get the calls to rest Bruno. Yes he's played a lot of football, but he's also our most important player at a time we really need to be winning games to keep pace with Liverpool. We can rest him for the cup games or better yet - take him off early if we bag some early goals and seem to be firmly in control of the game. He's a 26 year old elite athlete, not a 37 year old injury prone ornament.

Just think in last season's home game v us you were starting Brandon Williams (who El Ghazi even back then was destroying before he went off injured after 15 minutes), Andeas Pereira, Mata and Dan James. And Lingard was your last 15 minute "supersub."

Can you start them all again please?

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50534315

Shows how much can change in 13 months sometimes.

Shows how much miles better you are in final third now as I think you'll start Martial to try to drag our CBs out of position and McTominay and Fred obviously starting so McGinn and Luiz got to be ready for that.

I can't see why you'd rest Bruno for this. Friday evening to Wednesday is a decent gap to rest and then FA cup might be postponed so you get another 11 day break to Liverpool.

Would get a massive boost seeing him as a sub. Cavani is more obvious one to take out given his age. Can see James starting ahead of Greenwood aswell.

Would be more than happy with a point just like v Chelsea. Hopefully Barkley has been found in whatever dark room he's squatting in as he'll be a good one to throw on in last 30 minutes and give you something else to think about.

Villa have an impressive away form this season

    Fulham 0-3
    Leicester 0-1
    Arsenal 0-3
    West Ham 2-1
    Wolves 0-1
    West Brom 0-3
    Chelsea 1-1

Clean sheet in all of their wins, the 1 defeat they should never have lost, dominated the game, odd VAR decision and West Ham scored from 2 shots on target. I won't be complaining if Man United win a simliar manner on Friday.

I haven't seen Villa play much this season but you seem to have an excellent defensive record. Is it due to a defensive setup and great counter attacking to win games or general better control of games? And how do you see Villa lining up against us? I hope due to their confidence they come out to play rather than just sit back.
