Game was extremely meh, McTominay was the only thing decent about us.

I know changes were made but I have this strange feeling that we're running out of steam a little bit.

Bailly took a hit tonight but can we please buy a CB that isn't built from wet sand soon.

Very disappointing is an understatement.
A bright start with some good football for quarter of an hour, but as soon as we scored, we lost all shape and cohesion, just winging it and hoping something would come off. The rest of the game was meh!
I thought James and Lingard started very brightly and did well for 15 or 20 minutes, then they vanished. Both should have been hooked at HT.
Mata tried hard, but in the one to ones and physical contest, he just got brushed aside like a limp lettuce leaf, as usual.

Telles looks like a liability. Luckily for him, he recovered from a couple of really bad mistakes. Otherwise he looks like a nothing player.

VdB isn’t and never has been a DM and you could see why tonight. Another physically weak player in the close tussles. He should of been playing instead of Lingard, as an attacking MF.

We know what James and Lingard are, and Greenwood and Mata were somewhat off-colour. Basically, when our entire attack plays badly and we’re resting all our main players, a disjointed 1-0 win was the best we could hope for. Nights like this in the cup are all about simply getting a win, which we did.

Well done to Ole on the team selection.

We started really well, kept it going for about 25 minutes, and then everyone seemed to lose interest and went through the motions. Luckily Watford were utterly dreadful going forward. That final free kick at the end was a good summary of their entire attacking game tonight.

No need for any moaning after that.

That was your classic FA Cup home tie against lower league opposition and playing a fully rotated squad.

Seen this performance for the past 30 years. Remember the 1-0 win over Crawley in 2011? Or the 0-0 at home to Exeter in the mid 00s? Now that was life drainer.
That Crawley match was way worse than this. This was just your average third round cup tie, nothing special or memorable but we're into the next round.

A game that had a promising start, but turned out to be a pretty drab game. Watford's speed and physicality caused us the occasional problem but we didn't show enough quality on the ball in attacking positions and never looked like getting the 2nd. Scott gets MOTM for his goal (congrats on getting the armband too), he put in some good defensive work, his on ball work had a lot to be desired at times. Also thought Axel, Harry and Dean had solid games, Rashford was also quite exciting off the bench even if it didn't quite comer off for him.

In to the next round with some important 1st team players avoiding 90min is a good result nonetheless.

I really dont know who and why someone scouted VdB as a good player. This is a horrible Watford B squad, and he couldn’t control the game or setup anything.

Key things. Greenwood didn't look great, he was waiting too much for other players to get the ball to him, which didn't happen because we were playing James Lingard and Mata behind him. He needed to take charge, drop deep, move into the channels and make something happen for himself, he didn't. It's something he should work on.

Van De Beek wasn't special. For me, he doesn't do enough to impact a game when on the ball. I'm sorry, but it feels like Mata at United. He doesn't get involved enough, so then avoids criticism despite being part of the problem. If the team lacks creativity, then he should be part of the source. Crying about no gametime doesn't matter.

Tuanzebe and Bailly looked good.

That's about anything that could be gotten from this game. Mata can be useful, Lingard and James are useless, Mctominay is average, Williams is not good enough and Telles is decent. Nothing new.

Put it this way, I don't think any of the fringe players have played their way into contention with that performance. If we have any sort of ambition none of Lingard, Mata or James will be here next year, I know Greenwood wasn't great but the service provided by the 3 behind him would even make Gerd Muller look poor.

In fairness we didn't actually need to get out of 1st gear because Watford are appalling, they only regained possession from our wayward passing and I don't think they really troubled us. Will Hughes is an awful player and has been for years now.

Job done, looking forward to seeing the first team against Burnley.

Poor watch, but a win with most of our team rested so whatever.

Personally would not have brought on Rashford or Martial near the end for fear of them getting injured. I get that he probably wanted to kill the game off, but I didn't really think the game was calling for it tbh.

Shame about Bailly. Hopefully it looked worse than it is and he gets back soon. Hard to say when a knock to the head, and best to err on the side of caution. Still he was looking good with Maguire in recent games so it would be ideal if he was fit for Liverpool.

Poor watch, even more evidence how so many of these players are nowhere near the level.

Am I the only one who thought we were really comfortable?

Hendo barely had anything to do.
We're in the minority. As sloppy as we were, Watford barely tested us. They had a few decent moments in our third, but whenever they had to create a chance, our defence did a good job in stopping them, or they fluffed their final pass/cross/shot.

Awful game, weird set up from tinkerman Ole. I don't get why he kept pushing Greenwood to the wing, Rashford and Martial coming on was not really needed, they didn't really offer anything. Watford were worse than us, that's why we won. Positives, we won and rested Bruno and Fred and back to winning ways before two crucial games in the space of 6 days.

Comfortable win by the second string. Dean didn't have to make a save. Bailly's injury aside, got nothing to complain about.

Rubbish game ,Watford are that bad, they made this lot look ok, when there was many on there who are squad players. Mctom was just himself, Tunzabe did ok, Brandon Williams showed enough not to go on loan, V Beek ok. James not showed enough. Lingard hes off I should think.
Telles to many Hollywood passes. Mata is just experienced enough to get through these games. Greenwood will be up and down hes young . In the Hat that's enough. Burnley Tuesday and Bruno has has a decent break.

Tuanzebe must have given the ball away about 40 times.

Not great, to say the least. Nice to see us score from a corner, as untidy as the header was, though! Names in the hat and first team players are rested for Burnley.

11 strangers meeting to get us through to the next round. Job done. Nothing that we didn’t already know that the drop off down to these players is cataclysmic.

McTominay looked like a proper first teamer to be fair to him. Telles’ delivery was very good. VDB showed glimpses but when will we next see him.

Looked like a game between two championship sides.

Which makes sense because half our team were championship level players.

Thought Axel was great. Played left in the first half and right when Maguire came on. Put in a very assured performance. Looks like a really good option if he can get regular game time.
Other than that, disappointed with DVDB and Mason. Was expecting big things from them tonight.

Tough watch that but we won

Scott was the clear MOTM, had a good game especially in the first half. James isn't really a United player and should be let go, he gets lost for ideas in and around the 18 and makes the wrong decision 9 out of 10 times, Jesse is also done.

Lets hope Eric is not too bad, and the team can show up against Burnley

Good start rampaging through their team and then dropped off massively.

But saw it through without unduly taxing a lot of the key players.

Hope Bailly can get through for the next game - unclear if that counts as a concussion needing a week or so off.

Not the most thrilling performance of the season, but through to the next round with most of the first team rested and some valuable minutes and good run outs from some of the other lads like Tuanzebe & Telles.

Where the grass is greener.
Just all a bit blah.

VDB has to be doing more, he looks a stranger in this team. Has some great touches, and little moments, but then just disappears. You can see why he's not playing.

Glad we won, hope Bailly makes a very speedy recovery.

The football equivalent of having to sit in a room with Diaper Don for 90 minutes.

Predictably uninspired but key players got a rest and the next two are more important.

That Crawley match is the worst I've ever seen Utd play whilst still winning.

Tonight was awful and yet still miles above that game.

Job done. We're in the hat. The less said of the performance, the better. But the result was really all we needed. The big boys go again fresh next week. Hope Bailly isn't badly hurt.

Atrocious again from McTominay, apart from the goal. It's a sign of where we are as a club that he gets to captain us even in this fixture.
He needs benching or played further up the pitch because he cannot pass or keep possession in the CDM role.

That was a bit of a chore to watch. Glad we are through of course but we made hard work of it.
Hopefully James, Lingard are on ther way out soon, surely we have reserves and the like who can offer as much if not more.

Donny did not play amazing and understandably tired in the game but he showed he is more than capable of playing next to Fred in the first team and also in the same team as both Pogba and Bruno. McTominay of course will always get chosen though as he is Ole's favourite but for me he's not even in the same class, ability wise as those three.

Hoping for an easy draw next round so we can rest a few again.

I thought we were generally good and McTominay was our worst player. Which is the polar opposite of almost every comment I’ve read on here. That said I am a bottle of Kraken into the evening so I’ll take the forum’s word for it and accept McT man of the match and it was a shitshow...

Very good start played very well for 20-25 minutes then it all turned a bit dogshit. not a great watch.
Mason disappointed me he was always out wide when he needed to be central attack. McT played well despite the odd stray pass.
Pretty standard game when we make so many changes.
You hope for better but never seem to get it.

Hope Erics Ok.
