Although he's played very few games for Atalanta, it probably should be noted that he only played so few minutes in this half season in order for Atalanta to protect the agreed deal. This shouldn't be seen as him not being ready because he's too young. But for our agreement, he'd either be getting a lot more minutes for Atalanta or getting serious minutes for Parma.

Don't abuse the report function please. Just tag a modmin with any non-urgent request.
Seemed like the easiest way and it would be clear that I wasn't actually complaining about the OP? Could've just PMed me to say that but whatever. Thanks for changing.

The lad had played 4 games for Atlanta and people are looking for him to be involved already? I’d think under 23s and then a loan is more likely surely?

I would think it’s a signing for the future rather than now unless I’m missing something?
Nah, Atalanta are throwing out their captain and totem for having a sprat about tactics with Gasperini and they spent a bunch of money on giant inside forward types like Miranchuk and Malinovskyi because they want size there and width width from their wing backs. And Serie A teams will freeze a kid out when he should be getting bench time.

He may not be ready to play for us immediately and there's surely a case for sending him on loan to get used to England for the next 4 months and then him being the backup RW with us bringing in Grealish (who would play on the left mostly with Rashford on the right or basically 4-2-2-2) or Sancho (who is versatile enough along with Rashford and Greenwood that those 3 and Diallo would give us 4 quality players for 3 spots once Cavani ages out, with probably one of James or Pellistri being a backup out wide and maybe a cheaper 9 like when we bought Chicharito as cover if the academy doesn't bring one in).

But a loan would be annoying during Covid and we have a spot open at RW for him to get some Europa league and sub appearances time in here anyways, so probably yeah he and Greenwood are fighting it our for the RW spot but really it's one spot for anyone to seize behind Rashford and Cavani in the front 3, could be Martial on the left and Rash on the right or could even be Pogba as a 2nd AM type or Diallo or Greenwood or even James.

He didn’t play much for Atalanta in the first half of the season, but he wasn’t playing for the youth team either. He was a senior.

If Jones or Lingard move this January, they won’t be going into anyone’s u23 team. Becoming a reserve for us will be a step backward for Diallo I think. He’s already a reserve graduate elsewhere. He should play with us, or loan and play elsewhere. He was due to go on loan to Parma before we signed him - not to play in their youth team! Yea he’s only played 5 senior games, but everyone only plays 5 senior games at some point in their career. He’s supposed to be going forward from there, not backwards.

I agree with most of your post and it is well balanced and reasonable, some people just get carried away!

I imagine he will get the odd appearance in the cups to begin with or perhaps a cameo when a game is already won perhaps.

Some folks just seem to be going overboard mentioning that he has been touted as a generational talent and some are expecting to see him involved in the Premier League already.

Lots of players have had these kind of labels in the past and it didn’t help them, hopefully the lad does well for us and has a great career but I wouldn’t be surprised if we barely see him this year, hopefully I am wrong on the latter!

Let’s not go full muppet yet though...

Yea, I don’t know how much football he will play, but nobody does, even Ole. What I am sure of is that he will be part of the first team squad. Once you have secured that, it’s up to you. If he is indeed this generational talent and takes his chances, he will get more. If he struggles, the approach will be more cautious. But at the same time, people need to stop pretending he is your ordinary 18 year old. He clearly isn’t. Plenty of 18 year olds play senior football, and he is clearly in the upper bracket where such is expected of him. He’s no youth team player. There’s no reason why he cannot move ahead of Greenwood, for example, who is only 19 himself and not playing brilliantly. I doubt Ole will hold too much stock in Mason’s ‘experience’ if Amad is performing better.

I suppose he will make his debut once he starts getting past AWB and Luke on a regular basis in training

Absolutely no way I could trust anyone who speaks in such an over the top way about an 18 year old prospect. We've all seen the same videos that you presumably have and yes, he looks very exciting and I agree I think he has more to his game than Pellestri in the limited video I've seen but but my god, get a grip. That you believe he will win the European Player of the Year from a ten minute Welcome to Man United video makes you sound unhinged. A bit of balance is needed here.

Look at Ravel Morrison's career. Everyone that watched him in youth teams said he was a dead cert. Now look at him.
Frankly don’t care if you do or don’t. This kid is unreal and as for ravel probably the most technically gifted with mason and I watched him in the u18s But you’re talking about a person who had serious mental health issues and Amad doesn’t. It’s unfair to judge Ravel it really is he had serious issues. But he’s still a hero for what he did at Anfield in the FA youth cup semi finals (if I remember) he was unreal that day. Amad will be a European player of the year by the time he’s 27. If he doesn’t I’ll give you £100 if he does you give me £25. You in?

If he can get past them two regularly he should automatically command a starting spot which he won’t because I doubt he could do that.

A kid who has played less first team minutes than our front 3 (not even counting Cavani here) have scored first team goals in their careers so far will need time before we can even start thinking about him replacing any of them.
I am really excited to see him play but at least for a few months it won’t be more than some minutes here and there.

My expectation is simple. Please be marginally better than Dan James. I don't need no Ronaldo.

At least we know he wouldn't need to hire prostitutes.
A polite gentleman, not a player.

Stop editing the stats of your favorite player.
That’s what you think! A few days of being horny in Manchester and he’ll be phoning escorts.

This is high praise and I hope you're correct.

Salah couldn’t get past Luke the other day... AWB has kept sterling quiet each time he’s faced him. But you want diallo to get past them on a regular basis??

He is going to be on the bench against Sheffield United. That was probably what Solskjær alluded to when he said that Diallo could soon be introduced

Now Greenwood looks terribly off pace. I think we need to influx more energy and grit and Diallo seems like a palyer to work hard while coming up with some skills too. At the very least Greenwood has competition and we have something different to chose from.

I like the look and sound of Diallo - great pace and skill and ability to use both feet. And the fact he's got a better left foot means he's more likely to fill the troubled right side of attack when he plays. That's all very promising, and he seems a good signing.

As for when he should feature: I think it's a little different than introducing Rashford and Greenwood, as they didn't need to acclimatise to a new club or country and weren't coming with an £18-37m price tag so would be judged differently and cut a bit more slack by some.

I think we did the right thing not loaning him back to Atalanta, and bringing him over to acclimatise, and to be in and around the first team squad. But we shouldn't rush him into the first team with any pressure of immediately delivering - so I'm not calling for him to feature against Liverpool tomorrow.
However being in and around the squad is good, and I'd rather have him on the bench than Lingard or Mata for games. And there'll be some matches when he can make a cameo sub appearance, and maybe more meaningful sub appearances as the season progresses (and in the Europa League).

Obviously, more than anything, it depends on how well he seems to be acclimatising, and how ready both he and Ole feel he is to being able to make a meaningful impact in the first team during the second half of the season.

You have to laugh, there's lads on here claiming he's going to win the European Player of the Year and other lads ready to discard him to the scrap heap. No sense of moderation whatsoever. He looks like a really good 18 year old that might notch up a few games and even get a couple of assists or goals. I'm absolutely buzzing to see him in play because I think his style is very suitable towards providing our team with balance and creativity from the right wing. Is that not enough for a teenager finding his feet in a new league/country?
