It wasn't 2nd string Southampton side.
Half their first team was out.

Everton are always difficult - I think we have enough to control the game if we want to but the worry will be DCL just targeting Lindelof and Richarlisson/James are good creative players. They have a few goal threats but I think their midfield overall is very average and I'd love to see Pogba & Bruno start.

Win their 2 games in hand and they’re 3rd
That would be a great result, cos it'll mean they beat Citeh. They need to improve quickly though. 3 poor games on the run, never mind that they beat Leeds. Anyone else see another comfortable win coming?

Leeds had chances but got hit by their usual sucker punch. Good win by Everton but I’d expect Carlo to out think Bielsa

Everton will be up for this as they always are when they play us especially Colman. Early goal and we should take the three points. Let’s also hope Liverpool can put out enough quality to trouble the Bitters. Guardiola is so smug he thinks they’ve won the PL already.

You’ve been disappointed with two clean sheets in a row by de Gea, it’s not good enough, right?
De Gea has been brilliant in the past 2 games. I just feel Dean should be granted a chance as well to prove his worth, if he as good as the hype suggests. After all, some people on here were pushing for him to be first choice not too long ago.

Superb chance to take a minimum of 2 points off one of Pool/City. Could well be 2 off each.

We need to be bang on this to make sure we do our job.

Who said that? It's clear that Fred and McTominay are trusted as a pair to do the defensive job (and spring attacks) against teams that are likely to press us and run a lot. Matic and Pogba are preferred in games against slower teams that are likely to drop deep. Each partnership has its merits which Ole plumps for accordingly. It's not always going to be quite so rigid but that's what we've been doing in recent months to pretty good effect.

Well, it depends on what you deem 'actual football'. He's trusted the Fred and McTominay combo in the majority of games in recent months and we've won most of them. Fred and McTominay obviously aren't Pogba levels when it comes to their offensive contributions, but they are able to move the ball fast (Fred especially), spring quick attacks and their ability to press and harry the opposition is vital to how we attack. I'll be surprised if we see the Pogba-Matic axis anytime soon after the Sheffield United farce, to be honest.
Yes. As was said before Pogtic slow the game down too much. We need greasy speed. Speeds the key. McFred and high energy football will win the day.

Good point - why not drop Bruno and give Donny a run in as well. While we at it, Telles needs some game time too so drop Luke Shaw as well....

Nice. I like where you are going with this. We've been using red kits too much also. Bust out the greenies.

I’d be open to giving VDB more game time. I can’t quite figure out what type of player he is and what he offers the team just yet.

why ? Dont change the keeper just for the sake of changing the keeper. DDG is our No1 and rightly so.
I get that but my initial point was just to show how things change really quickly. There were a series of posts not too long ago about the need to drop de Gea for Henderson. In fact there were quite a few pushing for de Gea to be permanently made second choice - which was ludicrous even then.

I wonder what will happen if DDG has one of those occasional (but typically game-altering) fumbles against Everton. Would we go back to advocating for Henderson to take over?

Looking at the selections options to the right of my screen, I'm struck by a question that I really feel needs answering...

Why does Lee Grant play for Man Utd?
So that we don't waste the spot with a youngster. It's not like Man Utd are the only team who has an ageing veteran as the third choice.

Back in the day I used to think that was the key too but the come down lasted days, so be careful what you wish for.

Need to use the momentum of the Southampton game and win this one. Especially as City and Liverpool are playing. Hopefully the scousers can get back to winning ways, just for a game.

    I think we need to start our strongest team, which for me is;

    DDG
    AWB, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw
    Pogba, Fred
    Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford
    Cavani
Might be tempted to start Martial, he's had a confidence boost.

I think the team is actually relatively easy to predict and I reckon that Ole will play a very strong and positive team. My guess

    ——————————De Gea——————————
    AWB———Lindelof———Maguire———Shaw
    —————McTominay———Pogba——————
    —Greenwood———Bruno————Rashford—
    ——————————Cavani——————————

The only player I’m uncertain on is McTomminay or Fred but I think the rest pick themselves based on form.

They used to be one of our bogey teams, but recently we seam to have become theirs.... they totally run out of ideas against us. 3 - 1 tomorrow unless the home voodoo kicks in.

Maguire has just completed nullified Calvert-Lewin in recent appearances which has really helped us with results. Calvert-Lewin is better the less of the ball he has, lot of first touch finishing and headers which is Maguire's bread and butter.

Please can the thread title be changed back to Everton v Manchester United? I’m worried that if our players realise it’s a home game then that might adversely affect our chances of winning!
