They don’t deserve to win at all. Yet again, it’s their own fault.
Unless you think whoever scores more deserves to win, then I don’t know what argument you can use to explain how they deserved to lose.
I’d say Brighton were as bad in that 2nd half, as Leicester were in the first. A draw would have been a fair result but I’ll take it.
No doubt Brighton regressed but they still created chances and pressed well in your third. I’d say they just about edged the game but for your argument, I can see why you would think a draw would be fair as well. United vs Leicester at OT 3rd last game of the season could be absolutely massive in terms of CL permutations.

We’ll beat them. He has a massive inferiority complex with us. Reminds me of Harry Redknapp with us; great football but never belief they can win. Same team got battered by Arsenal

That assist by Tielemans was filthy. What was the keeper doing for their second?

Hope we get second, but Leicester deserve a CL place this season, hope they get 3rd/4th

They have an identity, but the forwards are not clinical enough and Potter struggles setting up a defence which is one of the main reasons he shouldn’t be anywhere near a top job.

The XG nuts go crazy but that model whilst valuable, in isolation is flawed. They seem like Bournemouth and Howe the continuation to me.
They’re 11th for clean sheets and joint 10th (with Liverpool) for goals conceded. Defence isn’t the reason they are where they are.

I dunno - historically we are terrible against you (think our only win since we've been back was the 5 - 3 under Pearson), but you didn't beat us earlier in the season.

We need to have a few more players back for us to be in with a chance, I reckon.

Did they deserve to lose against West Brom?
Nope, a draw would have been fair due to the ref decision. Not sure what that has got to do with this game though? Again, in that game they missed a penalty, so they definitely didn’t deserve to win it. ‘Should have won’ and ‘deserving’ are two completely different things. They’ve been shooting themselves in the foot all season, hence where they are in the table.

Fair enough, wanted to check your opinion on a game where it was even more egregious that they didn’t win.

I just think there definitely is value in assessing a game along lines of ‘deserved to win’. Because if you deserved to win then the performance you produced was good, even if the result wasn’t. And you can often extrapolate more from a good performance than you can a good result.

Our form since the beginning of the year is a good example of this. The performances throughout January were poor but the results were good. We were winning games we perhaps didn’t deserve to.

Fast forward to the end of February and the poor performances continued but the luck ran out. Cue a month of poor results.

Brighton are an oddity because their lack never ran in. Despite consistent good performances they’ve continually lost games that they deserved to win.

I do take your point though - results are the only currency of success at the end of the day so they can have no complaints about their position in the table.

Didn't Redknapp scalp you a few times at Fratton Park?

If you don’t take your chances and then make stupid mistakes how do you deserve to win?
But this literally happens to them just about every game. If this continues, would you say a free-flowing team who create masses of chances against everybody they play against should go down?

Yes if they don’t finish their chances then why not? That’s the whole point of the game!

Technically you’re right, but I just can’t agree with that simultaneously because that would mean Newcastle and Burnley staying up despite serving up stinking, defensive dross every week. Former has far more resources than Brighton too. Brighton are an actual good team to watch, unlike some of the teams they may go down before.

You’re getting blinded by their good build up play like many do on here, but at the end of the day it counts for nothing if you don’t complete the aim of the game and continue to make stupid mistakes at the back. I’d love them to stay up as their games are more entertaining but their downfall is their own doing.

D'you know, I've actually enjoyed this WBA - Mags game. It's been a good tussle.

Nice rehearsed set play from Newcastle too. Nice to see they found time to work on some football this week rather than constantly shitting on each other to the press.

Just looking at the table and if West Brom win today they've actually still got a decent ish chance to pull the escape off given Newcastle dropping like a stone and Brighton unable to finish.

I'd like them to do it for Gallagher but on the other hand the Allardyce raving (including by the man himself) will be unbearable.

If they win they'd be 6 behind Brighton having played a game more. Their final 10 games includes Chelsea, Leicester, Villa, Wolves, Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham & Leeds. I'd be amazed if they stay up.

On second thoughts then scrap that didn't realise their run in looked so brutal.

Some old school references about Mrs Slocombe & Phyllis from Corrie blue rinses was the highlight of that first half

Brighton still got to play Man. City, Everton, Leeds, West Ham at home and likes of Man. United, Chelsea and Arsenal away I think.

Newcastle got Spurs, Arsenal, Man. City at home.

Think it will be a last day shoot out but West Brom need to win this and it's been quite even.

Fecking finally! No Firmino and no Mane. We've decided to stop losing every PL game in exactly the same way every week.
