He's approaching 30, 1 year left on his contract in a post Covid transfer market, he's always been wildly inconsistent over the years and will be looking a club to give him something approaching the £100k+ he currently gets.
No clubs paying £50m for Lingard, if we get £20-25m off the back of his recent good form. It would be a fantastic bit of business as going off his last two years of form we would have been lucky to get £10-15m for him.
There's 3 players who can play in his position, Bruno, VDB and Mata, with Mejbri needing some first team outings as well.

Personally I’d sell him for the decent fee we can command. There’s a chance he could come back and be great but I think there’s a bigger chance he’d revert back to his very patchy form.

A lot of the games we play in, the opposition pack the defence, and totally nullify Lingard's strengths. It's similar a lot with Dan James.

He is doing well there because he’s full of confidence and playing every week. Coming back to United to play in a squad role and be put under huge pressure when asked to fill in for the first team will put him right back to square one. @Sandikan makes a good point about the lack of space United get in comparison, too.
Less of the revisionism, folks. Put this down as a great move for all parties and let him go for an acceptable fee.

Yeah it’s nuts. We have an opportunity to add one of the best PL attacking players this season to our squad for nothing and everyone is wondering how much money we can sell him for which we may or may not spend on a new signing who may or may not thrive in the Premier League.
Jesse has always been a decent squad option for us who struggled for form when the whole team was struggling for form then had one genuinely terrible season while dealing with horrendous personal issues. Which he has put behind him and worked incredibly hard to be as fit as possible. The player we’re watching for West Ham is clearly good enough to merit a place in our squad.

You surely understand that players perform very differently in different team and team stature set ups.
If we started Lingard every week, he wouldn't get the space and role he has at West Ham.
The smart thing to do would be to sell when his profile is so high. We know that he can't perform to the level that a club the size of United needs.

He's just benefitting from the fact that teams don't throw 10 players behind the ball when they play against West Ham. If wolves set up like this against us it'd be 9-0
He’s coped fine with being a squad player in the past. What has hasn’t coped well with were life circumstances that had nothing to do with football, then being completely frozen out this season.
