Definitely agree on that! Luckily there are quite a few levels between Xavi and average.
Of course he's not average I think he'll come good for you next season. I just don't think the player can be absolved of blame that's all.

Liverpool need to change style if they are going to see the best of Thiago. They also need two other midfield players to play alongside him in that style. It won't happen and they won't see the best of him. I don't see him improving as a player from here.

Didn't see anything today that Jorginho doesn't do every week tbh. And I don't even rate Jorginho.

I have to give him some credit. Watching him on the same pitch as Fred and McTominay makes him look top notch, at least when it comes to passing.

He's a quality player. He also got away with not being booked for three bookable tackles yet again. He's somehow absorbed this ability from Milner and Fabinho

He is a quality player. As a footballer he's miles ahead of Fred/McTominay. It was always if he would fit their system.

I'm hopeful for next season. He turned up with no pre-season, got a bad injury in his first start and came back to total chaos in our midfield where his partners were changing every game and his role was ill defined. He's noticeably improved now Fabinho has been in the midfield regularly and he's had some stability and rhythm. Hopefully with a bit more familiarity with the team and at least a bit of a preseason he'll be as consistently class as we anticipated next season.

He was bang average yesterday. If Fred or McT put in a performance like that they’d get slaughtered. Constantly conceding brain-dead freekicks in dangerous areas. The way we defend set-pieces Liverpool could have scored 6 with him on our team.

Besides, we have Bruno - who is infinitely better - to do what Thiago is supposed to do anyway. It was Wijnaldum and Fabinho that showed our two holding midfielders up, not Thiago. Thank feck Wijnaldum is off in the summer. He’ll be very hard to replace. Twice the player that Thiago is.

He was a passenger for most of the game, Fabinho and Wijnaldum carried him!

In fact both midfields yesterday were largely bypassed by quite direct football from both teams. It was quite a back to front game where players like Thiago can't affect anything, other than the odd poor tackle!

They're not the same players at all, neither do they have the same role.
Thiago is a central midfielder who can also play as a defensive midfielder, Bruno's an attacking midfielder or a supporting striker.

As for last night's game, he had a good game but i don't think he was great.

Utter nonsense and shows you have hardly seen him before playing for Liverpool.

Very badly, maybe.

He’s obviously on the pitch to create/score goals. They have Fabinho and Wijnaldum to do the water carrying. I assume Klopp signed him so he could give them a bit more cutting edge from central midfield. Same reason we signed Bruno.

Funny how differently people can see player’s performances. I thought he had a fine game yesterday with some nice dribbles and passes. He does has moments where he seems almost sloppy, though. All in all, he’s improved massively from a very slow start so I’m getting more and more optimistic about our midfield next season, even if losing Wijnaldum will hurt.

Gini has been great for us during our rock and roll years, winning everything under the sun, but absolutely infuriating against a low block. Been a great servant but I'm happy to see him go as we need more progressive midfielders against 36 low block PL games coming up next season.

Curtis Jones on the other hand fills me with glee. He's quickly picking up the work ethic from Gini but is much cleverer in possession.

We absolutely did not sign Thiago to do what Bruno Fernandes does. You can’t have seen much of Thiago over the last decade if you think that is the kind of midfielder he is. Not that Bruno isn’t fantastic. Would have loved him here.

Wouldn't be the same player in our system though. Our midfielders all carry way more water than Fernandes is asked to.

No he would not, does not mean he still would not be a very good one. Set piece threat, goal threat and presses very well. Klopp would have found him a role.

Yeah I’ve read stories today saying it was a Thiago masterclass. Granted I’m trying to forget everything about that game, but I don’t recall him doing anything special.

Still offers little. Its just standards have dropped where they expect to shade close midfield battles v lower quality opposition.
Klopp will get rid soon enough

Starting to find his feet.
Hes' definitely improved and looks better alongside Fabinho, but it's hard to get excited when it's against West Brom and Burnley. Interested to see who we replace Wijnaldum with. Keita is probably off as well so we'll need at least one midfielder in the summer. Hoping Thiago can be an important player for us next year.

Bloody hell, I forgot about that guy. I remember being quite concerned about how good he could be for Liverpool. He must be the least bantered flop in the history of flops?

He's a hipster player with no substance for the most part. Completely flopped mostly due to injuries. Made of tissue.

A mere 37 games into the season.
It may be 37 games into the season but some cnut knocked him out for half of it right at the beginning if you remember/care.

Thiago has played 22 PL games, 4 CL and 2 FA. Most of these games were in front of the worst defence in the PL and behind the worst finishers of 2021. And none in our best midfield formation (Hendo, Thiago, Fabinho).

This will not be the case next season:

TAA VvD Konate Robertson
Hendo Fab Thiago
Salah Jota Mbappe :)

I’ve heard a lot of Liverpool fans talk about you signing mbappe.... like... why do you think that’s even remotely possible in this universe?

He's been poor.

He is easy to bypass, slow and too methodical with his passing for the Liverpool side that Klopp has created.

He has certainly improved since his first 15 games, where he was very very poor, but that improvement has been slight and really not enough to show that next season will be any different from him.

He has been poor defensively, that's why Hendo and Fab will remedy that. He's certainly far from methodical, I've loved his passing recently now that he can focus on that rather than tracking back all of the time.

We don't really believe it either but Henry sold some of his LFC shares to Redbird which is affiliated with some basketball player that is besties with Mbappe.

Found him very average to be honest. I was expecting more from him. But, he is a terrific player, no doubt about that.
So, he might become a very good asset next year.

Zico signed for Udinese?

Will never get them if you don't try I suppose. And apparently we're dead keen and mbappe kinda interested. But there's a lot of very unlikely things that need to fall into place for it to happen.

I mean obviously he's been poor. It's just that Liv fans creamed themselves last summer when he was signed, and now at even a faint glimmer of hope, they'll go overboard with the compliments. He's been poor by any standards, and when you factor in his pedigree/standing, he's just been an unmitigated flop, so far. I doubt he'll turn it around, unless Klopp adjusts how the team plays, and even in that case I think he's just not suited to the rhythm of the PL.

Yeah I think Klopp might change it around:

Hendo Fab Thiago
