Everton's recruitment in general is a big part of the problem, they should be targeting players on an upwards trajectory and instead it's just a few too many signings of players that the clubs ahead of them have either discarded or passed over. Too many Sigurdssons, not enough Richarlisons.

He was superb at a world cup a few years ago, and you don't become a huge signing for Real Madrid without being an incredible player.

However, being offered out on loan for years and years and ending up at with all due respect a team who finish 7-12th each season in England probably speaks volumes.

He's not a super-tactical coach. He's more of a man-manager, which might have work in the past with Wenger, SAF and etc. But that era has ended and those types of managers are more or less all retired now.

He's not a super-tactical coach. He's more of a man-manager, which might have work in the past with Wenger, SAF and etc. But that era has ended and those types of managers are more or less all retired now.

Summed up really well. On top of that he didn't really focus on fitness level of players when you believe the rumours that many Bayern players weren't happy with his less challenging training methods and hat to do extra sessions themselves after the training.

Carlo Ancelotti is a superb manager who performed well with Chelsea, Real and AC Milan. There's feck all chance I'm going to write him off as a manager for Everton as of yet. He knows the limitations of his squad and is likely going to build on it.

I'm not at all familiar with what he's done, but looking at the age and calibre of the players they've brought in, something isn't working. Surely the benefit of having a director of football is to ensure that a club's vision outlasts any single manager's short term planning and avoids the upheaval caused by managerial change.
Signing a bunch of 29+ year olds seems to contradict a lot of that.
