THAT IS ONE feckING GAME
You’re right. It is. In the league, our squad should be finishing third or even fourth and we finished second, so credit where credit is due, he overachieved there. I’m not going to take that away by saying it’s mostly due to the Liverpool implosion and Chelsea sticking for too long with Lampard, although these are possibly valid arguments.

I’m just annoyed that we lost to team with a fraction of our budget, our wage bill, and whose first 11 for the most part would struggle to make our bench. Infuriating.

I’m going to get off the forum for now!

We don't need another £200m, but we need better coaching and better scouting. Fans at top clubs need to understand that throwing money at issues isn't going to make you dominate all the while. Look at how Iago Aspas, Alberto Moreno, and Francis Coquelin got a second chance in Spain. Look at how Lindgard is getting another chance at West Ham.
Because the 'ESL clubs' in EPL are so rich, there is a cut-throat culture that if you don't succeed in the first season, you are out. Spurs fans want Reguillon back to Spain. Liverpool fans wanted Thiago back to Munich before March.
Yes, we don't have a good bench and start chopping and changing isn't the way to go if you want a sustainable club - especially since this club is in perpetual debt by the Glazers.
I agree with that. If you scout properly you can buy a good centre back, defensive mid and right winger for less than that which I think we need to challenge for the league. Somehow the Glazers don't know football and are too stupid to realize this.

Yes. Me asking an appraisal is exactly the same. Has a worse team finished above him in the league? I mean he’s useless so you’d think they would have done right?
I never said he was useless.

I think his maximum is top 4 qualification and decent runs at Domestic Cups. He's a good top 4 manager(maybe the perfect manager for the Glazers).

We will never challenge for top trophies and win under Ole. There's been enough time to see what kind of manager he is. He's done a decent job getting morale/chemistry back on track. We need someone better to actually win trophies.

Ah yeah. World class managers can lose games because they’re one-off and anything happens in football but if Ole loses a game he’s back to being a useless PE teacher. Where did that Seville side finish in la liga that year by the way? Oh yeah. Seventh.
Klopp back then was getting mocked for being a bottler in finals. He wasn't getting a free pass actually.

I think you said it there, he is the perfect manager for the Glazers. Who wants to come?
If he finishes below 5th next season, he has to go, but judging from what he has achieved, the perpetual debt that United is in, and the inept people like Woodward around, who else better can United attract?

"Martial...He's isolated Skrtel here..."
Starting lineup was not good. He bottled it, didn't have the balls to make a decision to leave one of Rashford, Greenwood or Pogba on the bench.

No wonder most of the squad acted like spoilt brats collecting their medals, seems like "the boys" are just that and are constantly being pandered to and infantilised.
What? That’s absurd. He literally put out the strongest attacking side we have and we were never in danger of conceding bar the stupid set piece. Get a grip

Okay. Well that opinion I respect. So you think his maximum is top 4. Which manager would win the league with this squad then? Who would have finished higher than 2nd? I don’t think anyone outside of Klopp potentially would have done. So until I actually see Ole given the tools to challenge I’m not going to conclude he can’t do it. Second is the most I think any manger would finish.

Didn't we get out of the CL because we lost to some Turkish club too? The only one they won? So it's not one fecking game. Most of the crunch games he loses.

People who are asking for ole to be sacked must be from another planet. We were the better team for 90 minutes then were gassed in extra time. Yes probably Ole should have brought on a player or two earlier (and possibly henderson for ddg for the penalties). But then again the man clearly thinks our squad players aren’t as good as our starting 11. And I agree with that, looking out our bench today there is not one player I would have brought on except tuanzebe for Bailly who played a few days ago. The rest would all be a downgrade except if players were tired. We need a LOT of strengthening. Everybody should see that. We improved from last season. 2nd and unbeaten away in the league. Very tough to beat in general. And lost in penalties to a europa league specialist in emery. Many players were off tonight like Rashford who I rate very highly. The manager went for it in the 90 minutes but later seemed resigned to get to penalties. Losing on pens in a final and improving your league position to second would never get anyone axed. We will learn from this and get better next season. On the flip side had we won many would have mistakenly thought we already got there but we are still faaaar away and this will keep things realistic like poop were with Klopp when they lost that final to emery as well. We will challenge for the league title next year. One step at a time, we are getting there.

Yes...That’s kinda my point. Judging managers on one off games is knee jerk and ludicrous.
What about judging managers on finals they've won? SAF, Mourinho, Pep, Klopp ect. are just winning one off games, no tactical brilliance at all involved? Also let's be clear United played a 7th placed Spanish side tonight.

Ole isn't only judged on today's game. He has been terrible in almost every single crucial game for us so far ever since he was appointed permanently. Semi finals, final, CL group, the league after going top. Every time we are close to something we completely collapse. His management in all these semis, final and CL group last game was garbage.

Yeah except that’s bollocks isn’t it? We’ve obviously won crucial games because that’s how you get to a final. Like Milan away. Or Roma. Or Liverpool in the cup. Or Leicester to get CL. And the 10 game unbeaten run before that. Or City away to keep very faint hopes alive. It’s just we didn’t lose those crucial games so they don’t suit your narrative.

We've lost four semi-finals and now a final with him at the helm. We've won nothing during his tenure. United have spent £279,519,300 during his time here. At the very least, it's a disconcerting trend.

We were literally about to bottle the Roma game in the second leg. We were lucky to not concede more goals this night.

I don't know faith you were talking about the league in this City game. We went up top and literally in 2-3 weeks time we went from being 3 points ahead of City to 10 fecking points below them because we bottled games against Sheffield, WBA, Everton and shit. Couldn't endure the pressure of going up top.

You can twist the narrative by bringing some league games after we were already out of title race or in 16th round cup tie all you want. The fact is every single time we were close to win actual fecking something or in top of something, we go on and bottle.

Shit in cup semis, shit in a final, shit in the last CL group game, shit in the league after going up top, but yeah we defeated City in a meaningless league game and Milan in the 16th round of EL.

I think we've pretty much lost every crucial one-off game except for a few.

We beat Leicester for top 4 when it was a must. Is there any other game I'm missing?

How about judging them on the basis of 7 crunch games?

Istanbul
PSG
Leipzig
Leicester FA cup sf
Chelsea FA cup sf
Sevilla
Villarreal

Ole bottled each and every one.

Could also include the 4 defeats and 5 goalless draws against the other big clubs in the league this season. More examples of Ole floundering on the big occasion.

Yes. This is pretty much the only one off crucial game at the end of something in which we delivered. For the rest, we are well and good until we are close to win it, then completely feck it up.

If this was happening for a rival we would be laughing our arse off them.

United minus the Glazers
His reluctance to make substitutions till the very end is baffling. Maybe he was trying to send a message to the Glazers but that was a ballsy move. Much to be desired in terms of big game management.

I actually felt that he lacked an authoritative presence today towards the end.

I think we should stick with him until a viable option becomes available.

If he wants to stay and actually take the team forward he needs to cut down this dna crap and get proper coaching staff. Sometimes I feel we are too living in the past glories.

What is Phelan's role? I feel he is just there to tell old stories about fergie days. He always came across as a shit coach. No idea what carrick's role is either.

Ole has created a happy place but he needs ti create a winning atmosphere. I am so disappointed with him today. I hope he doesn't stay long and tarnish his legacy. One more season and if we don't win any trophies then he must go.

A real downer losing the final. But whatever happens in the transfer market, I hope Solskjaer adopts a front foot approach next season and shows a real appetite to actually go out there and win games by playing with high intensity and risk. The squad is good and should've had too much for Villarreal which is very dissapointing.

Thing is, he should have already implemented that if he wanted to. It's been 2 years we've been waiting for that kind of football.

He doesn't trust quite a few of these players to do so, and tbh I think it's for good reason.

People are very likely going to counter this with someone like Potter at Brighton, but I think it's precisely because they're at teams like Brighton that they can get away with playing a brand of football that looks nice but isn't picking up the results.

2 years is enough to bring in a midfielder if you want to help you play a more possession oriented style or coach the current lot into doing so.

It's actually been longer than that mate. I haven't seen us impose ourselves on the opposition consistently since the days of Fergie. And when people talk about progress, then progress for me would be a United team that has the ability to control games whilst playing high tempo football. That has not been achieved imo, and if he (Ole) can't get us playing 'structured offensive football', then I hope we part ways and bring in someone with a defined way of playing the game. There's a number of candidates who I feel are in tune with the modern requirements of the game who I feel could in their first season have us playing structured offense.

I'm supporting him until then, but by next season we need answers. The squad might not be able to challenge for the league, but it's good enough to play a more expansive game.

Of course, they had to do better. But, people who thought that getting the pool game rescheduling was fine because short term loss is for long term gain are now out in the force crying loud.

I think the way we had to play the last 3-4 fixtures had screwed us. We were forced to throw a game or two and the preparing for all the games had to change massively. It can't be too good mentally and the momentum was lost at that point and could not get it back at all.

Oh yeah absolutely. But I don't think it could be expected under Jose and Moyes. Lvg to be fair did seriously and attempt to make us dominant but his transfers were rubbish.

With Ole I just don't see the cohesiveness and control in our football.

Sorry mate but that's a poor excuse, tonight it was a 700M against a 250M squad. We had one week of rest. We got out coached, the distance in quality between our squads was overweighted by the distance between the quality in coaching.

I am not one of the players or coaches. Nothing there for me to make an excuse.

I just observed that many of our in form players were losing momentum for the past 3 weeks or so. All the chaotic preparation can't help with it. In sport, you can not just turn on and off whenever you want. It is a routine and we were doing it alright for the whole season.

Well that's the managers job to keep momentum specially in the last part of the season when the biggest games are played. Weather is preparing the physical or mental part of the player or rotating the squad or whatever tactic you want to mention but that's the managers job. Blaming one postponed match I mean come on mate, we weren't slims favorites we really fecked up. This was no small margins game where we must look into tiny details to find why, we were out coached by a very basic manager that knows that by neutralizing Bruno and playing low block we are toothless and knows we are shit at defending set pieces.

Its not as if Emery is a mastermind, it's just that Ole is so basic that it doesn't take much to make it hard for us.

Of course that is his job but the crazy schedule did not help his job at all.

Look, I am not saying the team and coaches didn't have to take responsibility of it. It would be crazy. But, it is good to realize that it might be one of the things that cost our momentum for the last few games in a row. We usually bounced back pretty quickly this season. That did not happen this time.
