Wow they really are broke.
With the loanees coming back, as it stands next season the squad would be:

Courtois/Ukrainian kid/3rd keeper
Carvajal/Odriozola/Lucas(looks like he's renewing)
Mendy/Marcelo
Varane/Militao/Nacho/Alaba/Vallejo
Casemiro
Valverde/Ceballos
Kroos/Modric/Isco/Odegaard
Vinicius/Hazard/Brahim
Rodrygo/Asensio/Bale
Benzema/Jovic/Mayoral/Mariano

That's far too many players on first team level wages, and the only ones who have a market are the ones we want to keep...

There's no extra money because of the pandemic and we don't want to renegotiate the debt or pack on more debt because of the stadium renovations, so...

Aren't the likes of Mariano, Jovic, Isco, Marcelo and Varane primed to leave though?

Oh I’m not against competition, far from it. I was just responding to a post which downplayed how he played in the final
Yeh but I think he played well in comparison to our team, but not actually well. Because no one did bar maaaaybe mctominay and Cavani

Interesting take from Van Der Vaart, that VDB might not be ready as opposed to United being at fault for misusing him. Funny how he name checks Borussia Dortmund too. VDB would be a sizeable makeweight in a Sancho deal if that was doable.

Presumably still trying to force his move to United through

It remains to be seen whether Lukaku’s view will change if Chelsea make a firm offer to bring him back to the Premier League and whether or not he was simply being diplomatic.

With Borussia Dortmund insisting Erling Haaland is not for sale and Tottenham Hotspur unlikely to do business with Chelsea over Harry Kane, Lukaku had been viewed as the most realistic of the Blues’ striker targets.

Meanwhile, Leeds Uited are thought to be interested in signing Chelsea’s unwanted striker Michy Batshuayi, who enjoyed a good spell under manager Marcelo Bielsa at Marseille.

Man knows he doesn’t have the room in the PL for that first touch.
Yeah he guarantees goals but not a lot else. Impressive stats but for me, majority of his time in the premiership and certainly with us....stats dont tell the whole story, massively over rated as a player. If he is staying and Inter need to raise money.......Barella would probably be near a Rice type fee, but his ability and style is just made for the premiership. Him or (preferably and if I was to dream) Camavinga is about as good as we can sign this summer for central midfield

Wonder if we’d try to compete for Sancho and continue playing Havertz up front. Lukaku being a no-go certainly spices things up.

I think Lukaku is just being diplomatic . Put in a strong bid and Inter and he will consider it.

he knows feck all. Stupid bald cnut.
:confused::nervous:

….& you know more than him do you?

Always makes me laugh when football fans call out journo’s for knowing “feck all” yet know “feck all” themselves, so really have no authority to judge a professional journalists knowledge of an area, that we as football fans, quite frankly only are aware of a tiny tiny tiny tiny percentage of what actually goes on behind the scenes.

I guess everything is a PR stunt too eh?

From Simon Jones

www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9645807/Manchester-United-plot-Kieran-Trippier-cash-strapped-Atletico-Madrid.html

United are working on a deal for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and want Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund but funds are limited.

United are frontrunners for Sancho, whose previous £108million asking price has been dropped by Borussia Dortmund. But no deal has been finalised and United are keen not to be ripped off.

Varane is a serious target at centre back – a problem position for United at times this season – and only has a year left on his contract at Real Madrid.

I'm not sure he is to be honest. I think AWB improved this part of his game massively, I predicted he would and I think he was better than I expected.

Trippier is decent going forward and average defending.

I don’t think he’s a net improvement overall over the improved version of AWB, same as we’ve seen with Telles who many thought would be an upgrade on Shaw.
The more important aspect may be that we can then rotate him with Trippier. He was one of the few players playing both PL and CL/Europa. There were quite a few games he looked tired particularly at Christmas. Williams needs a loan move and Trippier would be a decent cover/competition option.

I'm just saying Villarreal were happy for him to have possession because they obviously felt he couldn't hurt them, they noticeably reduced their pressing on him. He did have a decent game, particularly when contrasted to his team mates, but an attacking right-back like Trippier would be a great addition to the squad.
That wasn’t exclusive to AWB. They were happy for us to have the ball wide and defended very narrowly in general.
