Such an odd player. Alway scores goals but to me look such an ordinary footballer, an absolute oxymoron.

Lukaku isn’t fit to lace Cavani’s boots. Comparing either career at United or career outside United.

I dunno watching him tonight I see exactly what I seen from him at United,

Moments of pure class but for the most the ball bounces off him and his hold up play being pretty poor,

He’s a very good player but not an excellent player imo, defo don’t miss him

Great player who just happens to have some absolutely shambolic touches from time to time which tends to stick in peoples memories. Overall the good far outweighs the bad with him.

He’s just someone that people don’t take to. His touch is overblown, and when it comes to Lukaku, the lack of top level finesse is painted as the most important thing in the game as to why he can’t possibly be a top player, and with another player, they will refer exclusively to statistics when it suits.

Lukaku is one of the best strikers in the world, ESPECIALLY in a world where people are so stats obsessed and place less value on aesthetics and grace.

Cavani's united cameo has nothing on Lukaku's two seasons here. Funny enough it was Lukaku's two goals against PSG in that famous 1-3 win that earned Solskjaer the permanent position

the funny thing is, it was the same with Cavani as he was always called donkey on here. "I've never seen him play well.", as they would often say before he joined us. just shows how much average member knows about football.

The guy is a very good striker. Just happened to not suit us, that's all.

I really find it ridiculous that a portion of United fans seem obsessed to prove that he's shit anyway and are unable to move on.

He was shit for us. Its galling to see Utd fans pretend otherwise after the fact.
The baiting everytime he scores a goal is ridulous.

I don’t think that’s the case. I’m a massive critic of Lukaku - but only of his time at United. What he does afterwards, good or bad - I’m not interested in. But I will absolutely criticise his time with us. He was an appalling professional and deserves to be called out for it.

He's good, but he let himself down by not keeping fit and probably thought he made it after joining us.

His first season was very good. The second season was shit alright.

I don't think he suited us but he's definitely a very good striker in the right system.

He did nothing today he hasn't shown throughout his career. Scoring against shite opposition, the ball bounced off him a few times, he had a few decent touches and a couple of well taken goals.

His attitude at United wasn't good enough. Greenwood has already had a more productive season than Lukaku's last with us, which should shame him. He was coming into his prime and should've been chomping at the bit. Instead he let himself get out of shape, had a poor attitude and looked like he couldn't handle it at United. His failures here are on him

Oh come on guys, remember how miserable he was and his awful awful first touch, he might end up being the top scorer of all time but he is definitely not the one counted on to win big titles!

Great thing about Lukaku is he can give you goals especially against poor teams. Yes he will struggle in tight spaces but he is improving always.

He improved well from united days though and try to bring others into play more than early days which was his main weakness.

you seem to put it all down to system, or that he wasn’t right for us?

what about the player - lack of professionalism, lack of fitness, appalling attitude? There seems to be a narrative that we misused up - whereas his failings at United are solely down to him.

Yes, imo the whole problem was that he wasn't fit for the way we want to play.

The fitness issue was definitely a fault of his and he admitted it back then but it's not something impossible to solve.

As for his attitude and professionalism they're way overblown here.

I don't think it was a matter of not keeping fit. He seemed to go through a regime to add muscle to his frame and it made him too bulky. No idea whose idea it was but it did not suit his game and you can see the difference now

Top class player.
Ole decision to back rash-martial over Lukaku was stupid.
People who think that Lukaku is a player who just scores goals and does not possess all round abilities as a forward, either don't watch Inter or don't understand football.
Some of the hate he got when he was still at the club was quite disgusting.

One of the best strikers in the world. Meanwhile I cant say that about Mourinho or Solskjaer as managers in the past 2 years.

Good thing we have Cavani in the sort term as we've finally got a replacement for a bit.

My long held opinion that he is a world class striker has always been met with annoying arguments from people on this forum.

It makes me tempted to just avoid threads about him but apparently I am a glutton for punishment. Would score 40 goals a season at City.

Ole wanted him to stay, but he wasn't guaranteed anything. Lukaku wasn't going to be in a timeshare situation, which you can't blame him. And how United want to play under Ole doesn't suit Lukaku because everything has to go through Lukaku for him to be successful.

Most good things go through Bruno, Shaw, and Pogba. With Inter and Belgium, Lukaku is the primary benefactor of service and main focal point. At United, there is a direct forward in Rashford and the revolving right forward, both positions at United that are not natural service providers for a player like Lukaku.

Lukaku also was never fully committed to United nor did he respect the responsibility of being the main CF. He was absolutely out of shape after the World Cup.

He's a top goal scorer in club/country football and one of the few remaining classic 9s. But to say he's a top end, overall footballer is wrong. He has too many technical shortcomings to be considered one, however he plays a position that overlooks that...if you score, you're a good player. He's very very good at that

Here we go with the world class talk again...it was Russia. Name me a single one of their backline without the aid of Google. His ability against cannon fodder has never been in doubt.

Message from someone who was saying he was world class 2 years ago before he scored against Russia (to further his record as Belgium's all time top scorer)

Goals per season last few years: 25, 26, 27, 15, 34, 30

Has scored against: Liverpool, Man Utd (Hat trick), Chelsea, Arsenal, AC Milan, Napoli, PSG ect. ect.

Nations scored against: Netherlands, Portugal, England, Croatia ect. ect.

But yeah people just rate him because he got a couple of goals today.

It was him dedicating his goal to his teammate Christian Eriksen, who was at the hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest mid-match.

you like stats.

1 goal in 23 appearances against the top 6 over two years playing for United. Chelsea in the cup if I remember correctly.

This is why I hate talking about Lukaku.

In my mind it is a fact that he is a top, top striker and people disagree so strongly that it is always so far apart that there is no common ground.

He has scored a ton of goals against great teams. He played in some pretty average United teams yet still scored some big goals against top teams (also the top 6 changes every season, he has a 1 in 2 strike rate against Spurs for example).

If you do not rate him that is fine.

I should bloody well hope so considering he played in England for about 10 years.

Other than that hat trick hasnt scored a single goal against us in 11 attempts.

1 goal against Liverpool since 2013.

1 in 10 against Chelsea.
2 in 15 against Arsenal.
4 in 14 against City.

World class numbers.

I think Conte openly admitted the need to work on his conditioning after he moved to Inter.
