Yes. We have Fred and Paqueta to play along Casemiro. The latter is class the other two just good.
Fred and Paqueta (Paqueta scoring a few even) are not having a bad tournament, but is far from being great.
Rice wouldn't get in front of Fabinho.

But he is superior - doesn’t build up the people who say he is the same as Mctominay - better defensive ability as well as being a better passer.

Mctominay had 30 less interceptions in a season!
On that basis, using those same stats, Fred is a vastly superior passer than Rice. Agreed?

Mctominay conversely tackles more, blocks more and clears more per 90 minute. Per 90 he also plays more forward passes, more short passes, more long passes, creates the same amount of chances, more passes in his own half and in the opposition half, and (obviously) completes more passes per game.

Rice's full array of backward passing on display. The slightest bit of pressure and he just gets rid of it to his CBs.

This Rice is over cooked. Can’t hold on to the ball under pressure.

Showing up all of his weaknesses here. Getting utterly embarrassed the lad.
Bebestation told me England don’t get opened up through the middle despite it happening twice versus Germany, happened about 5 times already here.

Chelsea can have him. As long as they have Kante, I don't see what he does for them. I don't think he's capable of playing a forward pass.

Denmark just pressing up the middle when Rice has the ball and he sends it all the way back, every time.
Woeful performance

Why? Fred isn't better than Fabinho either. Or are you implying otherwise?
Fred has qualities thst the Brazilian manager likes. He plays off of Neymar very well.
If they wanted to change that to a more traditional DM then Fabinho walks in ahead of Rice.

Yeah I don’t see why they need him with Kante, Jorginho fits much better.

I think England getting over ran was more to do with Mount and Phillips, but it’s not a great look.

He would be a downgrade on Fred. Never seen a player so coward with the ball at his feet.

Forget about this game but what you see in Rice overall? For me he is just at McTominay level at max

Rice a completely different type of player to Fred. He shields the defence so much better and would allow Fred to actually okay his natural game without the added responsibility of minding his defence.

I think he’s been ok today. He’s trying to carry the midfield on his own, since Phillips is invisible.

He is quite limited on the ball. He would still be a big upgrade on McFred for his positioning alone though.

Compared to McTominay, Rice is a better defensive screen (positioning, tackling, overall instincts). McTominay is better on the ball and better passer.

McTominay isn't a natural midfielder though, he feels comfortable only on the right side.
I don't see it with Rice. If we're looking for a pure defensive midfielder, Ndidi is still the best bet.
