Best of luck to him but it would obviously be in everyones interest to move him on. Got nothing against him and expect some horrible comments to be made in this thread.

Aww, I hope he gets some game time at a club like Burnley and does a decent job. Looked like he was going to be class at one point but he's made of glass it seems. I hope he doesn't retire off the back of being released

Hope he can revive his career at some point. If not I hope he gets all the help for his mental health that he’ll need. It can’t be easy to accept your dream is over because your body won’t work with you.

We'd still be paying more than half his wages, but if it saves us any amount then it's worthwhile. I'd rather play Mengi at this point.

His instagram account is full of abusive comments.

Chris Smalling left the club to play. Jones really needs to take a look at Smalling and put some effort to find a new club and force himself to leave.

Got to love Phil. It's a shame it didn't work out as planned here and he's been so unfortunate with injuries. Hopefully he gets the same boost as Smalling/Lingard did and can revive his career during his prime years.

The guy desperately needs to leave Utd for the sake of his career. He has descended into a shit player meme (remember when Twitter themselves openly mocked him before they quickly shut it down?) when before he was just the gurning meme. I honestly think he could land a decent gig at a middling to lower PL team and have the potential to be their standout best defender, like Jonny Evans was for WBA.

He really doesn’t help himself with his approach though and how he injures himself doing that.

Who even are you?

I don't get the hate towards him, he can't prevent injuries and he has to train to gain fitness so he can play. No club will touch him until he can train and play.

Was expecting more abuse, fair play the Caf. My favourite player for about 5 minutes growing up, he showed at Blackburn how much potential he had I think. Shame his body wasn't up to it.

Contract extension was the most baffling decision ever, even for our standards. Should have left years ago.

Anyone hating him is a massive prick. There’s been nothing he can do about his injuries and it must be phenomenally demoralising for it to happen time and time again. Even if you think he should just quit to save us money, why would he do that? He has a family and an employer who gave him a new contract and he’s perfectly entitled to stay for the duration. You can’t blame him for still hoping he’ll shake off the injuries no matter how small a chance that may be. It would mean giving up on his dream.

I saw him play. He had some decent performances too; never afraid to put his head where others would not risk a boot. Best of luck to him.

Newcastle fans right now must be shitting themselves...
Hmm not sure.

If I were a Newcastle fan, with the CB's they have - and have had for years now - I wouldn't mind taking a punt on Phil Jones. If a club can get him on a free and get him over his mental barriers and playing 10 games in a row then they could find themselves with a very good player. Bruce could be good for him, he'll play him every game that he can and will have patience with him.

I don't think talent has ever been an issue.

Why would you abuse a player whose career was stalled due to injuries ? He was decent when he played and got a run of games. Feck - I forgot when did actually happen last time.

The new contract wasn't due to him. He hasn't said anything about the club or players until now.

Enjoy your rest of your career Phil. Sad, it didn't work out.

Would be for the best. Shame his career has been crippled by injuries. Hope he gets a new start somewhere else.

Also, the the people who claim to be fans of the club who comment on posts from the club and players on Facebook and Instagram can be fecking vile. Sad to see.

Lets have it right he's not been at United for months now, not a single sighting of him entering the training facility.

They won't get rid that easy mark my words. He's gonna dig his heals in.

We’ll be safe to sign Varane now… Wonder what payoff he’ll be getting as his contract has a while to go yet.

There are also rumours Newcastle and Brighton are keeping tabs on him, also West ham, I assumed he'd join Derby tbh, I hope he gets a move this summer as being sat in the gym all year isn't doing him much good.
Hope he turns it around somewhere

Ah yes, how on earth have they been able to survive on £100,000 a week for the last few years. Let's start a gofundme page for him.

What an abomination of a signing.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but he was immense for Blackburn as a teenager, regarded as one of the best British prospects and everyone laughed at Liverpool when they paid more for Henderson than we paid for Jones. He was also pretty damn good here in his early years for his age. Injuries completely ruined his career, which could otherwise have been a very good one for us. I wouldn't call this an abomination like Sanchez or Djemba x 2, just more of a ... shame, really.

I'll also look back on him a lot more fondly than someone like, say, Anderson, who just wasted his time here by being a crap trainer and not putting the effort in.

What about the next 40 to 50 years if he can't find a new club?

Yes he's had a lot of money over the years, but he's well within his rights to keep earning that money for as long as possible.

What do you expect Phil Jones to do - refuse the contract? Ask if they could bring down his wages because he hasn't been able to fulfill his promise? Give the money back to United?

Well, a 4 year contract at 100,000 a week is still nearly £21 million. I'm sure he (as well as a lot of players earning big money) have some creative accounting going on for tax purposes, his family will be fine I'm sure.

Really hope he rocks up at Newcastle and does well, he deserves a bit of luck. The story about the testimonial - even if not true, was really quite sad.

The article says we would still need to subsidise his wages even of he leaves for free. I don't blame him. He's under no obligation to take a pay cut while he still has time on his deal.

Shame injuries derailed a promising career. Never should’ve got his last extension, or should’ve been a pay as you play deal. Hopefully he accepts a move elsewhere & maybe a change will do good for him.

If he returns to any kind of professional football permanently, it's already success.

It'll probably end with him leaving on free and us paying some percentage (like 30% or so) of his wages, where ever he goes.
