Brits finished 3 points behind. Anyway, that logic would only have worked if the Danes were toast towards the end. The reality was that they knew only France could overtake them so they spent the final laps on the French wheel instead of trying to win the final sprint.
Ah fair enough, I thought it was only a single point. It also was apparent in their interview afterwards that they were totally spent so I don't think they had enough in the tank to have gone harder in one of the earlier sprints and finish the way they did anyway.

I don't think it's true that only France could have overtaken them though? If we'd messed up at the end and Belgium had totally gone for it they could have pipped us out couldn't they?

Read that her German coach has been kicked out for punching that horse.
Yeah, it does kind of back up the point former modern pentathletes have been making that it isn't totally bad luck and the rider/team normally have some level of responsibility if the horse is massively acting up.

Also, while I get the points about fairness, the random horses definitely make the competition a more exciting watch

Super tight finish in the modern pentathlon. The Egyptian guy is looking strong.

Our German coaches playing a blinder with microphones everywhere and no fans. First the racist idiot at the cycling time trial now this woman.
I'm quite amused that just yesterday after I ranted about all the horse riding disciplines today there's a huge debate in Germany how plenty of it is flat out horrible for the horses.
That debate is great and I hate horse sports in any case but many of these outraged people cry about the punched horse while eating their Currywurst or Mozzarella sandwhich. Not saying at all that it's impossible that both these things are morally incorrect and in many cases downright despicable but it's something funny about these reactions.

Great finish. The Egyptian guy went early but thankfully Choong had enough left in the tank for a final push.

Double gold for GB is impressive! I found it a really enjoyable watch too. Apparently in Paris they're going to try and make them do the whole thing in 90 minutes which sounds insane.

"Nein! Du musst springen! Pferd! Pferd! Spring jetzt!"

"Nah, mate. Not doing it because your boss is a total cnut."

back in the stable

"Verdammtes Pferd! Du hättest springen sollen!"

"Look, mate. Just because your mum wants to give me a jump doesn't mean I'm doing it for you cnuts."

"Ich schlage dich jetzt!"

"Call that a punch? fecking cnut."

GB having a stinker in the team show jumping.
I'm a bit surprised at how bad we've been in it. I know we weren't favoured and our second best guy had to pull out after his horse got injured, but we did quite well in the individual so thought it might translate to this. I think it might be a team balance issue - we seem to have one or two top level team members but the others are quite a bit off the pace and we can't tolerate how many penalties those riders rack up. The Swedes on the other hand seem to have top riders across the board.

Jakob fecking Ingebrigtsen! Did not see that coming, Cheruiyot had beaten him 12/12 times before this!

This is actually our first ever Olympics medal in modern pentathlon. Huge achievement for El Gendy.

Congrats! I thought he was looking on for gold at one point but Choong had the energy for a final push.

Thanks!

I'm really happy with today's results overall. This silver medal literally came out of nowhere. Didn't expect it at all. We also got our first Olympic gold since 2004 in women's Karate today.

GB are actually going to hit 65 medals now which is pretty great considering a couple of the usual big medal sport have been a bit underwhelming. Overall a really solid effort

Well done USA on both 4x400m relays.
Also the Netherlands for Silver in the men's- meant so much for them, as one of them was crying on the track.

Really happy for Mariya Lasitskene in the High Jump, so dominant for so long, but robbed from competing in 2016 thanks to what her federation did. That's the most emotion we've ever seen from her.

Yeah, it's been nice to see other sports step up when the likes of rowing haven't delivered as normal. Different people getting the focus this time round.

Another gold for ROC, battle for 4th very tight. I worry GB missing out on that relay gold yesterday could be the difference.

I think Russia will finish 4th unfortunately unless Laura kenny can come up with another gold . Lauren price is the only other one who can get gold

What are our gold medal hopes now? Lauren Price will be favourite tomorrow in her boxing final but I'm not sure what other gold medal prospects we have.
