Still have had to pay the massive amortized fees for Neymar and Mbappe during Covid, which is incremental to their 200M revenue loss.

Messi can bring in new commercial revenue, sure. But again, brands have already eaten into their current annual budget. Current budgets are set in the previous year. You don't sign off on sponsorship 8 months into the year for it to only be activated if/when a player becomes available. There is no current commercial revenue that can immediately offset this sudden spike of increased spending. Brands are going to have to reallocate their planned budget for next year, right now, if they think having a commercial deal with PSG and Messi is worth it.
PSG's accounts are public. For the fiscal year that closed in 2020, the revenue loss was 90M and it probably doesn't take into account the CL final 8 earnings since it occured during the next fiscal year.

You have no need to immediately offset the sudden spike in spendings, you can get short term loans and figure that out before june 30th. Even if what you say is true, most companies start their fiscal years on january 1st so new budgets can be unlocked.

Lots of complaints over him going to PSG. Who else was in the market for him? Spurs apparently made an offer, but why on earth would he want to go there? Other than PSG, what were his other options.... Inter Miami? The only place he could move to really. Quit whining.
Exactly that. Easily the same money and a more appropriate city for a latin american family. Problem is, he wants to win the UCL. He's pressuring himself already. If he doesn't win it in 2022 or 2023, it will be a colossal failure.

No way it’d ruin his legacy (unless he fails spectacularly which, let’s be honest, it’s pretty close to impossible), but from a neutral’s point of view there were certainly more interesting options.

Still, money, friends, good city & climate, you can understand why he goes there. PSG’s team looks simply insane on paper & that front three is actually not that far of MSN (again, on paper).

I doubt his legacy would have any effect just because random Joe from social media or football forum doesn't approve of his movie

That was fast as hell
Terribly boring and average announcement video. You've signed the GOAT ffs - put in some more effort into the video. Hell our announcement video for Fred was much better

Going to Inter Miami would be almost the same as retirement. I wouldn't want Messi to retire now. He still has fuel on his tank, and was amazing in the second half of last season.

Would have been nice to see him in the PL even if he was to go to City. We'll draw PSG in the CL I'm sure.

Wonder how the Barca fans will react if they draw PSG. Wonder what the atmosphere will be like at Barca's first home game of the season.

PSG have been picking at this one for a long time. It’s Barcelona’s fault they lost him but Paris have had him lined up for a while now.

Messi will be far too good for the French division, but they will hope this will be the signing to propel them to the pinnacle of European football. I’m not sure it will work out so smoothly for them in the champions league but they will hope that success here with Messi, Neymar and Mbappe spearheading their attack will see them become one of the iconic world football clubs.

It would be nice to see him in England but as a United fan hell no it wouldn't be nice seeing him at City at all :nono:

P$G is the lesser of 2 evils in this situation so I'm glad he opted for them instead of City, the power/dynamic shift in Manchester would've likely been permanent had he gone over to the blue side of town

Right now, with those 3 they are THE iconic football club, as of now that is.

Leo Messi signe au Paris Saint-Germain

Leo Messi signs for Paris Saint-Germain
FIRST TEAM August 10, 2021
Paris Saint-Germain are very happy to announce the signing of Leo Messi to a two-year contract, with an optional extra year.
The six-time Ballon d'Or winner is considered a legend in his sport and a true source of inspiration for all generations, on and off the pitch.

The signing of Leo reinforces the ambitions of Paris Saint-Germain and offers loyal Club supporters an exceptional team, which promises to bring incredible football moments to life in the years to come.

I am impatient to start a new chapter of my career in Paris, reacted Leo Messi after having initialed his contract. The Club and its vision are in perfect harmony with my ambitions. I know how talented the players and staff are here. I am determined to build, alongside them, something great for the Club and for the fans. I can't wait to set foot on the Parc des Princes lawn. "

" I am delighted that Lionel Messi has chosen to join Paris Saint-Germain and we are proud to welcome him to Paris, with his family," said Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, President of Paris Saint-Germain. He did not hide his desire to continue to evolve at the highest level and to win trophies. The ambition of the Club is of course identical. The addition of Leo to our world-class team confirms the relevance and success of our recruitment. Together with our great coach and his staff, I can't wait to see our team make history for all of our supporters around the world. "

Apparently he feels betrayed by Barca. After holding the club to ransom for years, and the club now on its arse after paying his ridiculous wages, he's the one who feels betrayed.
Great player, total shithead.

It makes me dizzy, what the feck is that? 1 hour of drone flying and turning around like a maniac and 3 seconds of the actual signing being shown on camera.

There will certainly be more PSG shirts around than before but they haven’t won the champions league yet and until they do they can’t be put up there with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern etc. But if they deliver the goods as their talent suggests they should then sure.

Watching him in PSG feels surreal.

It really just feels pretty fecking weird to be honest. Didn't believe this day will actually come.

How depressing that the best player in the world is available for free and only one club can afford the phone call.

Football is broken.

Wow, the amount of vitriol and bitterness in this thread just melted my monitor.
