Take Matic off for Sancho and play Pogba in the middle. Fred's been shit and should be off as well, but they'll look to counter and we need a player in midfield that can move.

Don't listen to the commentary and believe what they say.
The biggest problem is that Matic is dropping into the central defense as third defender. That creates problem for our midfield. It's as if we are playing with 5 defenders.
This is exactly the problem. Matic can't keep up with the midfield battle so he drops deeper and deeper to play conservatively. It leaves Fred chasing the Southampton midfield on his own like they're playing rondo with him in the middle. We could have Xavi in there and he'd be struggling.

We hadn't had a single "natural goalscorer" opportunity in this match. It was all set pieces. If anything we're lacking width and better passing around the middle.
You do realise that players like Cavani create those “natural goalscorer” opportunities for himself? Martial hasn’t been near those errors.

    Martial is finished. anonymous again

fred has been terrible and matic shouldn't be starting games for us ever with the midfielders we have. that being said.. our biggest issue imo was our midfield.. and it has not be touched. i think we've been better off with a top quality CM over a cb and rw.

Martial will never be the player that we want him to be. If seeing Cavani working so hard doesn't motivate him to work harder, nothing will.

And it wasn't a foul on Bruno either. Soft as feck.

It's not Martial's fault we're losing though, Ole has got this so wrong. He has 45 minutes to correct his mistakes. Matic for Sancho first please

Fred is having one of his days and AWB offers 0 threat from the right. DVB for Fred and Sancho for either Martial or Greenwood.

Remind me why we signed DVB again? He must be an absolute donkey in training if he can't get a kick about over the likes of Fred and Matic.

I knew this would be a struggle when I saw Fred and Matic in midfield. Just not good enough.

    Martial hasn't had a kick.

But we refuse to invest at either position year after year so this must be part of the plan

So we all agree that Fred and Martial are absolute disgraces and should never play for us again?
Fred has a bit of an excuse in being paired with Matic. If I have to do a two-man job and my partner is a driftwood log, I'm sure I'd look incompetent as well.

Fred is woeful. Not just a slow runner but slow to react to anything happening around him.

We were good at coming from behind away from home last season, but it'll be tougher with crowds, and we're getting smacked around in midfield, which we can't really change as we don't have really have anyone else.

Jaysis I can’t believe that goal was given. The foul gets worse the more I see it. So obvious.

We weren't all that bad come on.

When we have the ball, it's quite good.
We just need to have more of it, that's all.

First 20 min were good, 72% possesion and making chances.

Replicate that in the second half, and once we score the first, it's our game again.

Truth be told, he really does have to make some changes asap, mainly Tony, this kind of game doesn't suit him.

title challenging squad with a championship manager

we batter Leeds at home with a strong line up then change to a weaker one against Southampton away
Ole is sadly not a top manager

the same line up but with sancho instead of James, that was all that was needed

We need new midfielders period. Not a single midfielder at the club is good enough to start for us in a midfield 2. Ole needs to get Sancho on.

So you're saying Martial hasn't been an issue this half? The difference between this week and last is Greenwood upfront created space to receive the ball, martial may as well be sat down on the field. He's just void.
Nope. The problem is we have to much control of the ball deep with our players not moving it quick enough. The only player who has been below average has been Fred and Bruno. Fred is misplacing passes and Bruno is either losing the ball in dangerous areas or rushing things as per. Martial has had few moments but he has been in space to receive the ball but hasn’t due to interception or mishit passes.

We had 2 off the line clearance and 2 free header in 6 yard box. They scored of wicked deflection. Still a lot of time is left in the game

I don't have time for Martial anymore. He doesn't wanna be here, and he has done nothing that should make us care to keep him.
I really don’t get the heat for him. He’s had next to no service whatsoever at all. He’s not been good enough when he has gotten the ball but feck me. Some people are delusional. No CF in world football does any better with what we’ve served up today. It’s been dross.

Martial is too static and doesn't pull defenders out of position. Fred/Matic aren't press resistant. Gotta say, weird midfield choice by Solskjær today. McTominay should have started.

I would bring DVB on for the second half. This is a game that he's a good fit for. We have a numerical advantage in midfield but the lack of quality on the ball from (particularly) Fred and Matic has made it redundant. Donny's ability to play short-quick one-twos makes him an ideal player for this game. More generally though, hope Ole spends half-time talking about a strategy to beat the press. It doesn't seem like we had a plan to deal with it which is mental, as they do the same thing every fecking year.

Martial off at the hour mark also seems inevitable, so why not just bite the bullet and do it now.

    Where the grass is greener.
Who would have thought our midfield is still a major issue. I can't believe we could possibly be witnessing another season where these are our options.

We could very easily turn this around in the second half, certainly wouldn't be surprised.

It's been 6 years since Martial has joined and apart from some flashes I have not seen anything special from him. In fact I will say he is regressing. Looks absolutely lost as a number 9.
I doubt he would play much if Cavani was available, especially with Greenwood in the mix and Rashford's eventual availability.

I’m confident we’ll go on to win if we can move Greenwood up top and get Sancho in. Martial is a mess and is single
-handedly destroying our pace. Right now the midfield gets the balls and the only outlet is Greenwood because Martial can’t make a run for his life
