Only positive is that it could have been worse, they deserved to nick it to be fair.

Matic and Fred were both absolutely abysmal today.

I had a feeling it would be tight because its their first home game with fans for 18 months but we need to be more savy. They absolutely killed the game after our equaliser and we still kept giving stupid free kicks away, knowing full well they would take 5 minutes to take each one.

Absolutley criminal that Greenwood wasn't on the end of that McT cross, Cavani would have been all over that.

I'm well annoyed.

Matic is finished, completely finished.

He was slow 5 years ago. His lack of intensity killed the team today.

Anyone remember the last time we won a match when he started?

A terrible influence on this team.

Frustrated we didn’t get the win but a draw is a fair result overall.

1st half we were too casual on the ball and didn’t particularly look like a team that really wanted to score. Having said that we created a handful of chances and conceded a rather unfortunate goal, feel a little aggrieved that they didn’t call the foul on Bruno, thought it was pretty clear from the replays but will get over it.

2nd half was much better, we looked to attack with more purpose and urgency, some really good football there from the team. The goal we scored was really well worked with Pogba at the heart of it. We looked like we were going to swarm them at that point but at around the 70min mark we just slowed down, loads of errors creeped into our game, passing became sloppy and could have cost us, we were lucky not to go 2-1 down in that point.

A draw isn’t a terrible result at this stage, it could have been worse. There is a novelty of home fans being back that will take a few weeks to get over.

Sloppy passing throughout the game. Fred started badly but grew as the game progressed. Matic on the other hand got worse and worse and lost the ball in countless situations. Maguire looked half asleep for most of the game and AWB’s mind appeared to be somewhere else, maybe he was contemplating his upcoming trial…? Martial was as frustrating as I remembered from his latest appearance. Perhaps it’s time to cash in before he has a complete mental breakdown. Doesn’t look like he’s enjoying himself one bit.

It’ll be like watching this game from today on replay but with different coloured shirts. I’d be shocked if we win away at wolves. That today was piss poor and sadly evidence that we are miles away from a title challenge as we have a 3rd rate central midfield
Hopefully matic and martial both don't start. That could make a big difference

Well, all my slim hopes are already gone for the title. We have the same problems since Ole is there. We will have our moments but our runs are not good enough to lead us to the title.

I am a big Ole fan and think he is the best we had since Fergie. He build a good team but I am not sure he is good enough to lead us to the title.

Just surprising how lackluster the whole affair was. It's as if we thought we could play good for a few periods and that would be enough.

- Martial just sucks the confidence out of the team.
- Fred already back to his worse. I'm still amazed he starts for Brazil.
- Even Shaw was mediocre.
- I just can't think of anyone who played well for the full 90. Pogba and DDG above average I guess

A bit unlucky to not score earlier and to concede when we did, but deserve no sympathy with that final 30 minutes. You can’t integrate new players slowly unless you get results and get performances from the other players starting. Sancho should have been starting and Martial is lucky to make the squad right now.

Thought starting with Matic and Martial killed us. Both were incredibly poor (As with a lot of the team today). Also after we got the equaliser instead of going for their throats at a point of the game we had them on the ropes we decided to play the game at walking pace. Didn't deserve anything from that game. Mentality needs a check.

I don't think anyone can be happy with this performance. Fred, Bissaka, Maguire and Lindeloff had games to forget. Pogba and Greenwood are the only players who can take any credit.

Southampton will do well to take points off any other top 6 team. They are distinctly average but playing against a good squad with a distinctly average manager, guess they were bound to get something!

So bloody frustrating we had good spells in both halves then totally lost on our way and that feels like a huge dropped two points already. We had so much time in which to score that second goal and fecked up badly. Surely that sends out the loudest alarm bells a midfield signing is needed NOW

Well I'm going to be level headed and say Southampton are a decent team and getting a draw there wasn't too bad given its the start of the season and Sancho hasn't got going yet and varane is still to come in - as well as cavani and rashford eventually.

Everyone going into meltdown need to get a grip.
Somebody talking sense. Thanks.

Brought back down to earth with that one. Maybe not the worst thing in the scheme of things, a lot of hype after the Leeds result.

The usual suspects guilty of some sloppy play in the second half that let Southampton back into the game.

Poor team selection from Ole as well, Matic and Martial particularly ineffective, and Fred having a shocker as is the norm when playing against a high pressing team.

Still frustrated we didn't manage the win, Southampton rode their luck a lot of times, especially with their goal.

Frustrating and some ordinary football. Shame we didn't have Cavani on the bench. Still, early days and away record still intact at least.

The good thing is that we have a reasonable and rational fan base that won’t overreact.

Yeah.. time to avoid the caf for a few days.

Think Matic is a top professional but I think today will be the day that players look back on when they know their time at the top is up.
Like when G Nev talks about that performance at West Brom.
So sloppy today.

This is on Ole Varane and Sancho on the bench is a joke especially Sancho he should be ready by now surely and also we are desperate for a midfielder but for some bizarre reason the years go by and we never buy one! We should be battering them 3 or 4 nil embarassing

Martial continues to look bereft of confidence as he was last season.

Matic is finished.

Fred has no composure and his passing is erratic.

AwB can't pass.

I think we need to act a bit quicker in the market to resolve these issues as they aren't minor ones and everyone saw them coming based on last season

From the first 5 min, we don't look like getting anything. Why the hell did AWB concede a free kick is JWP range? Doesn't AWB read the memo of his free kicks delivery? Southampton was pressing and our whole backline was in panic mode. Martial is non-existent in the whole match except for a header clear with couple of runs in the channel that has no end results. Bruno being fouls but referee decided it was a fair challenge. Whatever it is, Ole and the team didn't react well. I think beating Southampton is a prerequisite if you want to be a champion. Maybe I have over reacted but I think we will be finish 3-5th.

Magure in particular was half asleep the whole game. Holding the ball for 10+ seconds every time he gets it. Slowed everything down and almost gave them a goal. Absolute shite.

Towards the end players look tired. I am most worried about that. Never was the case last year when we were playing almost 2 games a week throughout the season.
They were tired because they were not controlling the game. Once we kept giving the ball away and chasing all the time we are going to get tired

We will never win the league when Ole is persistent with two holding midfielders and our options are Matic, Fred and McTominay. Either play with one and have Pogba or Donny in midfield or go and buy a decent DM. Matic should not be playing for us anymore. He was finished two seasons ago. Our slow turnover of players means we get on position sorted by which point we have issues in other areas.

We cannot control the midfield with those 3 players in central positions. None of them can pass the ball. They can all tackle and track back but provide nothing going forward.
Have to agree with this, can’t be playing 2 of those 3 against anyone other than City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Pick one and go 433.

As I've said before, we can spend all the money in the world but unless we learn to control games and open teams up through high quality possesion play, we won't win major honors. Under the current managerial regime we've never looked like doing that. Too reliant on pace, counters and moments of magic here and there.
Agree with all of this unfortunately, I think we will make top 4 but unlikely to seriously contend with the current set up and squad.

We really weren't helped with their goal, and our poor attempts to finish before their goal. Martial and Matic are gone, Fred was frustrating.

We can't afford games like this

We seemed complacent and at times we got dragged down to Southampton's level.

Too many of our better players had off days or were sloppy at key moments. Fred not good enough to play CM for a side expected to control the ball. Matic too slow. Martial absolutely pointless. AWB sloppy. Shaw tried but nothing really came off. Maguire far too casual at times. Linfelof his usual 6.5/10.

We were awful after scoring. Donny needs to either be sold, or given a fair chance. Why not bring him on for matic instead of scott for fred? AWB’s passing is so, so, so bad. Feels like a massive two points dropped.

Pace was too slow. Fred forgot his Brazil on the plane back from Copa America. It's an easy moan but Martial was hardly dynamic. IF and it's a big IF he is fighting for his place, really didn't show too much today to suggest that he isn't 3rd choice number nine behind Edi and Greenwood.

That's the crap performance we feared pre new players being bedded in, and post Euro players etc.
I think the battering of Leeds got everyone a bit hyped up, and straight back to reality.

Bad team performance really. Lucky to get away with a draw and still have the away record intact. The defence was shocking apart from DDG, in front of those Fred and Matic were just poor. Greenwood looked lively and United showed glimpses through Pgba and Bruno but really a draw was all that we deserved.

The thing that frightens me most is that there are so many players in the starting line up or in the squad that have zero sale value.

The squad is full of deadwood. The only three top players in Cavani, Bruno, and Pogba are either inconsistent or too injury-prone!

Martial is so finished at Manchester United. Unbelievably rusty, and he's not a number nine. Cavani is light years ahead even at his old age.

We need a proper midfielder! McTominay was apparently a bit injured so Ole couldn't play him for long. Matic ... thank you for your service, but the time has come for you to go.

So frustrating game, not many players had a good game. Greenwood, Pogba and Shaw were okay.. the rest.. well...

Very poor. Too slow in possession, far too many passes given straight to Southampton & so many unforced errors that the players should be embarrassed.

Ole deserves criticism for the team selection. The midfield, in particular Matic, were very poor. We need to invest in a CM if we are serious about a title challenge. Poor.
Matic had a very strong pre-season so it wasn't unheard of that he got a nod.

Beyond infuriating that we don't win this.

Looking forward to Varane starting next match
