Its like England have reverted to the 90s, lots of chopping and changing no settled balanced side. The batting line up looks really fragile and there is too many players. worried about there place in the side.

I'm my opinion if you pick a top 5 at the start of a test series than unless injuries intervene you should stick with that top 5 give them the chance to prove themselves over the course of a series. If you picked them at the start of the series then why aren't they good enough 1/2 tests later. Thats a failure of selectors, coach, captain we learn nothing from history apparently, settled batting line ups tend to do ok, chopping and changing sides tend to do awful.

And speaking of the captain he is only the captain because he is the only player who is guaranteed his place in the side. His captaincy is actually awful. Allowing that morning of the 5th to take place especially after getting the perfect start, allowing his emotions to get the better of him and not sticking to plans it was amatuer hour. He should be removed from captaincy.

I have really enjoyed the hundred but it’s absolutely crazy that they have allowed Moeen to go back in & play the final and Malan is also going to be playing the semifinal plus the final if his team makes it. The media would absolutely destroy CA or BCCI if it ever happened there after a home test loss. I understand the urge to play a semifinal/final but the board itself is degrading the value of playing test cricket for England by doing this

I don't mind the Malan selection. I'm not sure Hameed for Sibley will change much at the top of the order - Hameed looked just as vulnerable.

If we are going to keep picking Bairstow then you may aswell give him the gloves and play and extra batsmen - Liam Livingstone. worth a try? Bairstow's not good enough to play as a standalone bat IMO but Buttler has been even worse.

I liked the look of George Garton on the Hundred too. Looks a better left arm option than Sam Curran.

Overton getting the nod over Mahmood  :houllier:
Yeah. My thoughts exactly.

Tbf we've picked plenty of fast bowlers recently. It's not like previous regimes where they didn't seem to trust pace.

Let's hope the rumours about Overton gaining a couple of yards are true. If he's still an up-and-down medium-pacer there's no point picking him.

Agree with all of that apart from Buttler. He got runs last summer, runs in Sri Lanka and as I recall he got runs in India before he was taken home. Bairstow's got nowhere near as much credit in the bank.

Livingstone has never really done it in red-ball cricket for Lancs. Think he's a white-ball specialist really.

When will Kohli get dropped?

Has never been a good captain and his batting has been poor for 3 years now.

It’s scary how much we still need a 39 year old bowler
No Archer, Wood or Stokes though to be fair has exacerbated the problem a lot.

Our batting issues are far worse currently i.e. we rely on Root a lot more for runs than we do Anderson for wickets.

Well, expect no more wickets for a while as I’ve finished my meetings till 4pm. It was quite hard not to react when I saw Jimmy get Kohli.

That’s true, the thought of our batting lineup not including Root is genuinely terrifying

Totally agree mate. I actually think the last few tests have shown how much depth we've got in the bowling! How strong would India be without, say, Shami, Sharma and Thakur?

EDIT: You can add Broad and Woakes to the list too.

Bumrah, Bhuvi, Siraj will likely be way more effective in English conditions than Shami, Ishant, Shardul

Obviously they won with Umesh, Saini, Nattu in Australia.

Yeah that's why I mentioned the latter trio rather than the former. I wanted to pick out three bowlers who might not be ideal for English conditions but are still effective and important.

Take your point about Australia, which was an amazing achievement (although the stuff coming out of the Aussie camp atm suggests all wasn't well at the time) but I'd say the two seam-bowling rosters are fairly evenly matched.

Where England really fall down is in the batting, which looks so weak without Stokes.

Overton still bowling 82mph. Not sure that was a great pick although hopefully he proves me wrong.

Kohli’s shot was so so bad . I wonder if being so hyped up goes against him sometimes because he kind of throws his hands out a lot

That was as good a session as England could have possibly had.

Kohli hasn’t had a good year at all

Forgot those two! Mad when you think about the bowling strength, in total contrast to the batting.

I think a lot of it is because the difference in skills needed between limited overs cricket and Test cricket is more exaggerated for batsmen than it is bowlers, and it's no secret that red ball cricket has been massively disrespected in this country for a while now.
