Football is seriously on the verge of eating itself. £160m plus obscene wages plus signing on fees during a pandemic without crowds for 16 months at a time when lower clubs down the pyramid are on the brink of going bust - and La Liga have had to get in vulture capitalists to bail them out - all for a player out of contract next year.
I think it is not on the verge. It has already done that. Question is when all this fall apart?

Hasn't Perez said that they want to offer a good fee because they don't want bad blood with PSG?
I think that is why PSG are saying it was a bid designed to be rejected. RM are going in under the valuation they know PSG want expecting to be declined but they will have the moral high ground when he signs a pre contract in January because they tried to sign him for a huge fee. Would be quite funny if PSG said yes as I imagine RM would have to pull off some spectacular financial shenanigans to actually complete the deal.

It's been getting more and more disgusting for a long time now-and as a United fan i don't exempt my own club from criticism (Super League and the Glazers/Ed).

The fact that they're bidding that much money when they can get him a year later for free is insane. If it was 'just' 30-50 million I could understand a bit more.

Man it's getting quite testy b/w Leonardo and Perez....looks like they're burning bridges in this dealing with Mbappe. I think Mbappe is doing the same with Leonardo.

Buying a player with a year left for €200m is insane. Madrid should never complain about anything again.

Specially when Flo Perez has been crying the loss of money in Spain football and how the Super League was THE solution

My theory is that the signing was agreed a few months ago and everyone is playing some theatrics at the moment. Leonardo and his contradictions included.

The fee is indeed too high for a player in his last year of contract, but it's probably the price to pay so PSG don't start a war and get your Neymars and Messis in years to come. Or in other words, different rules apply to clubs with unlimited sources of money.

It is said that Florentino Perez and Al Thani family have excellent relationship and I very much doubt they would want to make negotiations public.

I don't believe this rumor ... Perez is not an idiot ... The team looks competitive for a title challenge and in the CL there are very few teams clearly above Madrid (City/PSG/Bayern/Chelsea). Also the new Bernebeu should be ready in 45 days and this would be a good distraction in case we don't win anything this year.

We are not wasting £150 m on a player who will demand a large contract and we can get on a free next year ... Hazard, Bale and Barcelona are still fresh in everyone's mind.
Mbappe, Benzema, Hazard, Bale, Asensio, Jovic, Vinicius and Rodrygo.....too much players in the attack?

Not sure I agree with the bolded part of your analysis.

Which just makes the hypocrisy of Perez even more disgusting, when he was talking about clubs needing the super league because they can't survive otherwise, then he goes and offers 160 mill for a player out of contract next season

You hit the jackpot.

(1) Madrid knows from far way back that MBappé was not going to sign an extension. MBappé surely told this in private to PSG and they did their best efforts to convince him, but ultimately failed.
(2) Madrid sent this 'las minute' offer as a gesture of good faith. Perez and Al-Khelaifi have good relations and the Leonardo rant is just a small showtime and facewashing from PSG to their fans. I bet we will probably see another bid for 180-200 million euro and PSG will inevitably accept.
(3) For those that think this amount is "insane"... Madrid has practically spent 3 years "saving" money, first because of COVID-19 and secondly because they were waiting for this moment. The last paid transfer fee was Hazard in 2018 and since then, Perez has been very protective of his payroll.

Ultimately, I think Madrid is very lucky that MBappé is willing to relocate without any doubts. If for some reason PSG does not accept this offer, then he will be released for free next year and he will eventually ask for a fee for him and his agent, which Perez will comply with... Anyways, Kylian will surely get like a 30-50% paycut from what he earns, but seems he is resolved to play for Real Madrid at any cost...

I hate Real Madrid, but I admire Florentino Perez as a businessman and acknowledge that Real Madrid's prestige has taken a big role in all of their big transfers. MBappé was not an exention.

I'm sure they won't like it to lose Mbappe but at this point it is a given he's going to play for us this very season or the next at most. Like many fellow Real Madrid supporters have already explained we do want him now, I don't mind throwing that much money for someone like him if can be a player for us this very season. It would give us better chances to win the league and UCL this season; we don't do transition seasons and the goal is always to win everything.

I think players value our club as much because of this obsession to be the very best and sign the best players in the world, so I think it is normal for a club like Real Madrid to go for someone like Mbappe right now if he's already rejected extensions by PSG.

It just seems like terrible business. Spend €160m improving your team in other areas this summer in preparation for his free transfer next year. You’re not an oil club, that money comes out of a finite pool.

Re. point 3 - you don't save money to then go ahead and spend it like crazy. With those savings, they can get Mbappe and Haaland next year. 200M for a player who is on the last year of his contract, and who is set on joining Madrid seems bonkers to me.

If i was a Real Madrid fan, i'd pray he comes for free next season. You guys need far more than Mbappé to secure the future of the team and you could use a lot of this 180M+ to buy other elite players at weaker postitions.

Mbappé values Real Madrid because it's Real Madrid and he's a huge Ronaldo fan, he saw his idole with this jersey and want to follow his footseps. What confuses a lot of PSG fan is that he claimed several times he wanted a competitve team and as of right now, PSG is more competitive than Real Madrid. But it was the kid's dream, we knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. Most of us are just pissed he deceived the club and the fans making them believe he would extend was PSG to improve the team (and they did, especially with Hakimi, Messi and Wijnaldum).

I never want to defend Madrid as i despise the twats but in this case,

I hope both they and Kylian tell PSG to go f*** themselves and take their best player for free next year.

PSG just done the same for Donnarumma and Milan got zilch for their young star GK and you better believe they will be luring Pogba all season to sign him for free in 2022.

Got to laugh when even Madrid of all clubs are scared of PSG waving money bags at their players.
PSG, and specifically Nasser Al-Khelafi has had a big part in Spain's downfall recently. Barcelona made the mistake of treating PSG poorly, and they lost Neymar and now Messi over it. It makes good sense to treat him with respect, and despite what Leonardo may be saying, Real Madrid has often been more or less correct in their dealings with PSG, and this was always going to happen whether it's this summer or next. I think Leonardo is playing the media a bit and putting pressure on Real Madrid to up their bid. Like everybody says, it's a stupid deal to make, so I'm thinking the only reason they're making it is that Mbappe really won't leave PSG for a free and if a deal isn't done this summer, he may extend an extra season and get to play with the best team in Europe right now in PSG. It's hard to remember a player having such options at 22. Either be part of one of the best trident in football history or become the face of the most successful club in the world? Hmm...

i still remember Barcelona paid the price for their arrogance attitude toward PSG for Verratti with the Barcelona DNA bs.

I'm pretty scared we're as bad as Barcelona at spending the money we'd get if Mbappé leaves this summer. Qatar being Qatar, i'm sure someone there is contemplating the idea of a Neymar/Ronaldo/Messi trio. I just hope they don't mess this up and use the potential income to improve the team where we really need, meaning a top midfielder and a left back.

Real Madrid have acted like assholes yet again.

They've courted Mbappe for two years, speaking non-stop about him and then finally present an offer a week before transfer deadline.

I mean PSG have every right to feel miffed in this instance.

They have tried to renew him but Mbappe because he's had his head turned by Flo.

What profile of midfielder do you think you need?

Our starting eleven if we sign mbappé: courtois-carvajal-militao-alaba-mendy-casemiro-valverde-kroos-benzema-mbappé-bale/vinicius/rodrygo

Flo is obsessed with Mbappé, but the fact is by signing him we *are* getting an elite player at our weakest position.

Othereise it's depth we lack

Madrid's XI could be this:

Courtois

Mendy - Alaba - Militao - Carvajal

Casemiro

Modric/Valverde - Kroos

Bale - MBappé - Hazard/Vinicius
