I thought Perez said Real Madrid are in big trouble financially  All that money for a player with 1 year left on his contract and would join you for sure at worst, in a year's time ?? Bad bad business (unless obviously camp Mbappe put him under pressure )

Leonardo said the same thing about Neymar when he wanted to go to Barcelona. They couldn't do a high enough offer and he ended up staying, there's nothing done, it'll depend on how much money Real can put on the table.
I do not think that Florentino will start this if he does not have everything more than tied, from the "calm" in the interview of the Superliga, when they asked him about Mbappe.
They have been saving a lot of time and now I don't think they will back down by 20 or 30 million

I never want to defend Madrid as i despise the twats but in this case,

I hope both they and Kylian tell PSG to go f*** themselves and take their best player for free next year.

PSG just done the same for Donnarumma and Milan got zilch for their young star GK and you better believe they will be luring Pogba all season to sign him for free in 2022.

Pot Kettle Black
Indeed. It’s really fresh to read Leonardo saying this things. As if it wasn’t their modus operandi too.
He must be under immense pressure from his Qatari bosses.

What Qatari weed are you lot smoking over there @Oly Francis ?

Approaching a club for a player and proceed to make a huge bid for someone who will be free in 3 months time is not illegal. Airing your dirty laundry on Twitter may be considered immoral though.

You fans may want to ask Leo to calm it down a bit.

Why do people keep saying he'll be free in 3 months or 4 months. He won't be. Real can acquire him on July 1st 2022 on a free transfer. So they can wait to sign him in 10 months.

Now it may very well be ill-conceived to not hold off until then, but who knows, they may have done the calculations with regards to sponsorships and the sporting merit of gaining the most out of their current players by acquiring a truly world class forward with bags of pace (having already two of the best midfield passers in the game in their ranks) and he may be more inclined to accept a much lower signing on fee and the agents may also be easier to persuade to accept much lower fees when there is no true competition and Real are extending themselves this much when he's only got a year to run on his deal.

They would be wise to mend their centre defense though.

Because players can sign a deal with a new club if they have 6 months or less remaining on their contract.

Because they can start a pre-agreement with him 3-4 months. Same thing Lewandowski did when he moved to bayern. He basically confirmed it in January of that year

I'm aware of this. But he won't be theirs until the contract runs out. So they are not "getting him in 4 months". I'm being pedantic here.

 Coming from PSG...

Should offer €1m and tell them it's that or €0.00 when pre contract gets signed in January for next season.

Edit just read the quotes, apparently Mbappe promised he wouldn't leave for free. So Real Madrid should give €1 to PSG when he signs a pre-contract to keep him honest.

The real part of Leonardo's interview to AFP:
"Our position has always been to keep Kylian, to extend him (...) We made two important offers to Kylian: one at the level of the top players in the workforce. two months and one above these players very recently. We want to prove to him that he is an important player, at the center of the project, but not above the project. Compared to the position of Real, it looks like to a strategy to have a no from us, to show that they have tried everything and to wait a year to have it free. Real Madrid have been behaving like this for two years, it is incorrect, even illegal because they contacted the player. "

I believe all the story is just theater.

Nobody believes in a transfer this summer.

Leonardo deployed the same communication about Neymar two years ago.

Kylian will join Real Madrid next year as a free agent.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
This whole thing is absolutely barmy.
Football is seriously on the verge of eating itself. £160m plus obscene wages plus signing on fees during a pandemic without crowds for 16 months at a time when lower clubs down the pyramid are on the brink of going bust - and La Liga have had to get in vulture capitalists to bail them out - all for a player out of contract next year.

Why don't Madrid just wait a year?
Imagine it's cos they need him now - their squad is (for them) weak. They are ultimately relying on Benzema, a dodgy Hazard, Bale who can't be arsed and few other young and inconsistent wingers. The midfield of Kroos and Modric will need refreshing as well next year

Who's smoking weed? I never mentionned anything being illegal.

And by the way, the bid isn't illegal but talking directly to a player under contract is. Obviously it's a huge hypocrisy in football because every club does it.

We'd still not have Mbappé for another season though. That's unacceptable!

It's very interesting that Real Madrid don't wait for that as well. I guess they are afraid of PSG's kitchen sink, rightly so.
We definitely are. Their kitchen sink is very scary, and now it includes Messi and might include Camavinga and Pogba next year
