Bollocks. Hes not the only United player to score 40 goals in a season. He's not the only player to win 3 league titles in a row.
Who would you say is better? The fact is this Ronaldo is one of the few Utd players to have won the Balon Dor while at the club. He’s also only elevated his status since leaving the club to GOAT status for many fans. The fact that he delivered three of those seasons at Utd means he’s far better than anything else we have ever had. I can accept people not calling him a legend, but I’m genuinely surprised anyone is doubting his quality. He’s the best player the prem has ever seen too!

Forget GOAT conversation. The only reason Mboopi wants to join them is because of the garbage farmers league they play. There will be no adjustment issue for him. There is only one obsession at real madrid and among their fans and that is premier league.
La Liga is a farmers league now?

Whos better?
This is a subjective question. You could argue that Rooney was a better player for United and more deserving of legend status than Ronaldo. Rooney is the leading goalscorer for the club, Giggs holds the most appearances and was out of this world for years in the PL. Keane dragged United over the line time and time again in finals and big games. I won't even bother going further back because you get the picture.

You're confusing Ronaldo being world class with that for some reason making him our best player ever and club legend. It doesn't stack like that. He was brilliant when he was here but his actions and behaviour from leaving stop him from ever being a legend.

If he does join City, he's persona non grata as far as I'm concerned. Hoping it doesn't happen but it's looking concerning.

Cristiano Ronaldo?..

Some of the players who have played for both City and United, some of them are even considered 'legends'.

Are people really saying that Ronaldo will no longer be a United legend? That's ridiculous IMO, even though everyone has a different definition of the legend status.
They left at completely different times. This is more comparable to a legend joining Liverpool. City were irrelevant till the oil money, now they are a massive threat and you can’t just ignore that!

I think the Utd fans who are pretending not to care at all are even stranger than the cry babies like me. How can you not be affected by our best ever player going to one of our biggest rivals, very strange.
He’s still really good but his best years are undeniably behind him. It would have been different if he joined them in 2015.

Also he never seemed that loyal to us anyway, he’s not a United fan and never was, beyond his appreciation for how we helped his career. He left 12 years ago. There are other players that adore this club and “got” what it meant to be a red. Our current manager is one of them, for example. Ronaldo never was. And I’ve never been one for unrequited love, so this fanbase’s obsession with him always rubbed me the wrong way.

Where the grass is greener.
Imagine playing for so many giant clubs and ending up at City. It'll be a bit of a culture shock.

Maybe they'll finally be able to sell out their home games?

I can't decide whether Pep and Ronaldo or Messi and Ronaldo working together is weirder. Very weird in either case.

It's a shame Barcelona are skint. Him moving there would complete the most remarkable transfer window of all time, never to be topped.

Manchester City was a potatofarmer club when players like Schmeichel went there.

Then they got financial doping from a gulf state.

They are now a club that's currently above us in both squad and performance.

Massive, massive difference.

Jesus Christ you must have only started watching football in 2005 if you think Ronaldo is "far better" than any other player we've ever had.

Bobby Charlton won the Balon D'or, World Cup, European Cup, League and scored twice in the European Cup final while at United. That trumps all the things you're saying make Ronaldo our greatest ever player.

The posts on each page of this thread accurately depict the 5 stages of grief. I envy those of you who (outwardly) have fast-tracked to acceptance.

Will be a massive signing for them, if nothing else for shirt/ticket sales. Wonder where he'll fit in though...
You sure about that. If they can't fill the stadium after winning numerous titles, I doubt signing Ronaldo will change much there. There was a City fan on Talksport, who said he will never set foot in the Etihad again if they sign him. There again he probably hasn't set foot in the Etihad.

I think it’s you that is getting confused. He’s a second tier legend at this club. Rooney, Giggs, Scholes hell even people like Carrick are probably bigger legends than Ronaldo in a Utd shirt. That doesn’t change the fact that his performances during his Utd peak were higher than anything any other player has produced at this club and it culminated in one of the most successful periods in our history. He’s considered one of the best of all time for a reason and that started at Utd.

He is a legend, I don't even think that's remotely contraversial to say. One of the very few Ballon D'or winners we've had at the club - Law, Best, Charlton, Ronaldo - of course all of them are legends. He was instrumental in multiple trophies as well as influencing only our third ever European cup, scoring for us in the final.

If you personally don't see him that way, that's your prerogative but if you don't think he's widely regarded as a legend then you're the minority, not the other way round. His song is still sang regularly and with passion.

No idea who you think you are either to be the gatekeeper of what people feel about our ex players. Some no mark on the Internet doesn't want people thinking of him like that? Right.....
Totally agree Where he goes is none of our business, let it be. I love the club as much as anyone and the club have always been bigger than any one single player no matter who they are.

We've finally found an identity in going for players who are young, humble and hardworking. Throwing all that out of the window just to stop a 36 year old Ronaldo going to City would be reactionary gimmick. Cavani, despite being older and a stop gap still works as hard as any center forward in football and doesn't stop at the half way line when the team doesn't have the ball. Ronaldo is anything but that and he'll add a bigger spanner to the works than solve anything at this point.
This guy is a winner.

We need winners.

I always thought Ronaldo did ‘get’ Utd and genuinely did have a place of admiration for us. Clearly there are many other fans who agree with me, thus the level of shock and distain in this thread!

What the feck is a second tier legend? So he's not an actual legend then? What are these tiers? What tier is statue worthy? When does he get a stand named after him? What about a chippy? He's an iconic player that once played for the club, that's about it.

I don't even know why we're having this conversation. Based on your previous post we're actually in agreement with the exception you're handing out legendary tier status. What the feck does that make Anderson? Legend tier 5? Where do the tiers stop?

Now say that with a straight face! There’s no way in hell that Rooney peaked higher for Utd than Ronaldo. Ronaldo was the talisman of that side, the difference maker. There’s a reason Rooney moved to the wing to accommodate Ronaldo and there’s a reason Ronaldo has had a career as one of the best of all time. Let’s be real now!

Hypothetically say United take City to the last day of the season and Ronaldo pops up with an Aguero like moment to deny United the title. Would you still consider Ronaldo a legend truly? Schmeichel had no chance of inflicting that kind of damage, City were nobodies back then so it's hardly comparable. Same with most of the others on your list.

I have a season ticket and live in Cyprus. Never miss a Home a game the last 8 years.

Fair play, you must be absolutely stinking rich to be able to achieve that......couple trips a year from Belfast skins me out and we not that far

To be honest I didn't care much about Ronaldo when he was at United. Evra, Rio, Ole, and Rafael have always been players close to my heart and it wasn't always about their ability. If Barca and now PSG were playing at the same time as the United youth team I would be watching our youth team. I am passionate about United, not world-class players.
Well said the both of you (yourself and the NoLogo post you replied to) - echoed my thoughts exactly.

Feck him. We shouldn't be even considering to sign him now that he has flirted with them.

Fecker has no gratitude. He just gloats around purely for PR stating he doesn't forget his past yet end up doing up these things purely for fame and glory.

Just hope we thrash them when we play.

than Ronaldo.
Law
Charlton
Best
Robson
Giggs
Keane
Cantona
Just to name a few.
Bigger legends I agree. Better players not even close. As good as Giggs was he’s levels below the best of Ronaldo we saw, Cantona likewise. You are letting your affection for those players, or perhaps dislike of Ronaldo, cloud the reality. He’s the player with the most ability, who peaked the highest and who went on to achieve the most in his career, even if a lot of that was outside of Utd.

Think of it like this, if you could pick one player to put into the side, you would pick that Ronaldo from 2006-2009 over any other.
