Too many posts and tweets to trawl through. So my question simply is: is there any indication that there's a chance he might sign for us?

If my ex wants to get back with me but I reject her, should I feel aggreived if she gets together with someone I don't like?

Obviously a silly example, none of my exes want to get back with me.
I’m surprised you have exes.

Juventus was hardly a world beating side last season and he brings in an urgency to win things immediately, make short term decisions to keep him happy etc. It forces the club to accelerate its planning, no patience for learning mistakes for younger players etc. United hardly need a social media boost, they already have more than enough there. A Messi adds more of that to a team like PSG, who were yearning for attention. United are always in the center of attention, whether good or bad.
More than enough isn't a thing when every other club is growing their's and would then be in line for the best deals and in turn make the most money. Money they'd invest into a better team than us.

He will never want to go to United as the reason for his move is to win the Champions League.
So he's joining a team who have never won the champions league..in order to win the champions league?

Right.

Rio liked that Sam Billings tweet too? He can get in the bin along with Ronaldo if he joins City. Streets won't forget

What’s amusing to me is that anytime the possibility has been raised off him coming to United, over the last 3-4 years many screamed that he was finished. Now it’s looking universal that people want him back
I was 100% comfy with him not coming back, and tarnishing the great early days.

But I'd much prefer we got him instead of City. That'd be a sickener.

Tevez was bad enough, and he was a scrote and 1/1000th of Ronaldo

It's entirely based on Rio posting eyes and a gif. So comes down to whether you think he knows something, or not.

At the end of the day, Ronaldo is a professional and will do what he feels is for the benefit of his career.

The hurtful aspect of this probable move to City is Utds lack of interest and ambition to compete, Cavani and Greenwood sustain injuries then the Glazers precious top 4 ambitions are at risk, says much about the actual state of the running of the club, which is business and profits first, not quite the same club that Ronaldo first dazzled with pre 2005.

It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't say in an interview in 2015 that it would be very very very very difficult to join City because of his love for Manchester United.

Didn't he score 36 goals for Juventus last season?
He does, and anyone who scored that amount of goals would normally cost around 100-150m or more. But Ronaldo is 36, so maybe a lot cheaper.

 Fair enough, poor call on my part. I’m still not getting the “manufactured rivalry” thing though, every City fan I know hates United with a passion.
I never said they aren’t our rivals at all, but a lot of the hoopla about this supposed rivalry is manufactured and recently too. City fans hating us doesn’t equate or translate to them being our rivals or biggest rivals (which was the implication in the post I replied to initially). It just means they are jealous. They have little brother syndrome. They are not our equals despite being in an upward trajectory for years, and the only reason they are our rivals is because of geography. Might as well say Bolton Wanderers are up there in terms of rivalry for us if that’s the criteria. Our rivalries with Liverpool and Leeds eclipse any rivalry with City

It's a guy who said "I stay" right after winning the European cup for us, then spent all summer trying to leave.

Current betting odds put us in a virtually dead heat with city (albeit with city slight favorites). Based on that I don't think it's nailed on that he goes to city.

I just hope all the cnuts that were berating Rooney when there were talks of him moving to City (probably nonsense) or moving clubs in general have that same energy for the angel Ronaldo.

I have never rated him as a legend of the club anyway. Simply because, to do that, you need longevity. From the time he came, there's no denying what he gave to our club was special, but I always felt he was always itching to leave. Became a period when it felt like we were begging him to stay.

Fast forward, and the club who made him the player who is, especially Sir Alex, who he often describes as a ''father figure'', is now willing to tarnish that because of his massive ego in trying to prove he's better than Messi, by potentially trying to win more trophies than him.

It is what it is anyway....

If he genuinely loves the club, he would come back to us and help us win the league. That is if the club are willing to have him back.

Maybe Fergie is on the phone to him right now like a father would and tell him not to go to City?

His will to leave Juventus this summer far exceeds all the difficulties. To be fair City is the only club willing to offer him a contract. We turned him down.

I think it's arguable that since he left, now is the team we need him the least.

That's probably poorly worded but hopefully it makes enough sense for people to understand what I mean
Well if you swapped the word "team" for "time" we would :D but yeah ,I know what you mean.

I would say, if we had anticipated all of this, we could have let Cavani go, and offered Ronaldo a 1 year deal with the option of a 1 year extension. Then went all in for Haaland next year.

How so? With the creativity we have now and a more stable defense, a selfish CF would be great, on paper.

People like that just say things we want to hear to keep them popular.

Mourinho did the same thing with Spurs, but he had no hesitations joining them either. It's all fluff.

We aren't a well oiled machine. We are a team of individuals who are painfully inconsistent at playing cohesive football.
The current Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the worst players you could put into that mix. I can guarantee it would be a disaster.
I always feel a club that is confident in its sense of direction isn't distracted by these things. Let City have him. We need to continue building as planned. Fans are the ones that are emotional, the club should be above that.
Man, you are so right. I am emotional. This would hurt me to see him playing for City. But if city weren't in for him, would I be clamouring for his signature? Nope, I would not.

I feel that with Murtough and Fletcher in place we need to start planning forger ahead than the next year or so. We need to stop signing players on ludicrous deals that then inspire lesser players to ask for obscene sums. We need to be less emotional, colder and more logical.

I will HATE seeing him play for City but it's that reason enough for us to throw the good work we have been doing out of the window? Not on your nelly.
