He was out of contract, though. No clubs to deal with and therefore no leaks. We won't buy without first selling, so we'll hear that West Ham have offered £20m for Lingard before we hear about any new midfielders.
I agree on that part friend, a couple of £15-20m sales and then we will have more tractiom for sure. That amount for Lingard would work for both parties

Varane and Sacho are great signings. But as both deals are structured via annual payments for years to come (and there was money leftover from last years budget as a result of failing to sign Sancho) its not like there has been vast investment of immediate funds this summer. I'm disappointed we did nothing to address CM or Striker. Glad we have Varane but personally I thought Striker and midfielder were bigger problems than a center back.

Our failure to spend 1p on a striker since signing Lakaku looks even worse now that our 34 year old stopgap looks set to miss a significant amount of games. Baffles me that he was allowed to miss the start of the season at all, those games are worth just as many points as any other.

Doesn’t it come back to the ambition of the owners, when Tom Brady signed for Tampa Bay it was all “ the Glazers are winners and will do things to ensure success”.Hello , earth to Utd, they will only go so far for a game they have little knowledge of or interest in other than to continue dividends .

With Woody still controlling most things, so what has changed, get close but no real follow through to ensure the team can battle the top teams. No real effort to sell deadwood, or even reduce wages by moving them for free, then no move to get the DM needed, raises the question. Are the Glazers really interested in getting the team to compete as they did with Tampa Bay , or unwilling to risk their returns from the club that basically was bought for little or no outlay.

Depends if how much is left of last seasons budget. If they had budgeted only for Sancho and when that was out of the question spent money on DVB , Pellistri and Amad.

Ronaldo is the midfielder. He'll start doing Yoga and play football like Giggs.

Where is my midfielder? Nobody asked for washed up Real Madrid legends.
Same here, hopefully Ronnie won't steer away attention to midfield. It's almost critical situation there.

I'd still think about Kroos or Modrić on deadline day if no one from Cama, Saul, Neves can materialise.

Why the hell would Madrid sell two of their best midfielders? I have a feeling they went all in on Mbappe because they didn't want to waste their last years and win something now.

I guess we are hoping to win games 5-4. Unless Ronaldo is going to play as a defensive midfielder our central midfield is too weak. I love Ronaldo and his return makes sense on some levels but we still need to be saved from starting two of Fred, McTominay and Matic.

Manchester United have made around a €28m offer for CR7

a bit painful though knowing the cash is there but wouldn't sanction a move for a CM but instead to bring back Ronaldo and his marketing ability

No need to worry, the Ronaldo marketing cash will get us a CM... :nervous:

Ole is taking his Fergie idolisation too far. Classic late Fergie move of signing players in every position except midfield.

The Glazers will obviously have been persuaded by the marketing potential as opposed to the improvement he will make to the team. We do need a striker though. Cavani is barely able to play and Martial is useless.

oh 100%.....the marketing return alone for Ronaldo will well surpass the 28m and his salary over the next two years. Ronaldo will be a brilliant mentor for Greenwood and it gives us a brilliant ability to mix attacking players.

jesus if we found us a decent CDM with this squad that will now include Ronaldo, it would be a title challenging squad in england and europe

United will be so unbalanced in terms of quality without a new CM.

Good signings seen in isolation, but a title contender can not allow itself to be so weak in midfield. There are no excuses really.

I’m horribly ungrateful but I really just want us to sign a proper central midfielder.

And then I remember that we’ve just re-signed Ronaldo and I should probably just get over it (for now).

Did the Glazer's really have to spend extra money to get Brady? As most people already know, the NFL has a salary cap, less spoken about but just as important is that there is also a salary floor i.e. the minimum amount a team must spend on salaries. If they didn't spend that money on Brady, they would have had to spend it on someone else. Plus according to this list: 2020 NFL Team Salary Cap Space Tracker | Spotrac , look how far down the list you have to go to get to Tampa Bay

Just listening to Rio's podcast live on YouTube.

He's been talking about how he was texting Ronaldo last night, etc.

And he's just said something along the lines of:

"You need to be watching my channel on transfer deadline day, because it's gonna be a crazy one... That's just a little hint that I'm giving ya"

Interesting.

This is nonsense. If teams were easily making back transfer fees and wages on shirt sales/marketing that could be solely attributed to the player that's been signed, then the transfer fees and wage demands would increase in accordance with that.
