They were trying to sign Noa Lang from Club Brugge, a winger as well.

And for all the sticks James get here, he would be no worse than Raphinha playing week in week out with confidence. Being back up at Utd doesn’t mean he will end up the same at Leeds.
I really like Dan and think he can be a solid PL player for someone, but I don’t see him displacing players getting 15+ goals /assists in the PL - he’s not at that level yet and will do well to ever get there

I hope he moves somewhere he can walk into the first eleven

James is easy to offload honestly, he is on reasonable wages for any PL team.

Not just James but I also don’t see spot for Martial. Sell both and get a midfielder. Neves is probably the most realistic one.

Ronaldo
Pogba Bruno Sancho

Cavani
Rashford Lingard Greenwood

I like Dan James as a squad player but the squad is boated now. I reckon we could lose James, Lingard, van de Beek, Martial, De Gea and Mata without particularly negatively effecting matchday squads throughout the season at this point.

If we managed to sign a good deep lying playmaker and replace Dalot with Trippier or equivalent we'd be a pretty formidable side. Already the best transfer window i can remember though.

Hope he moves for the sake of his career. Good lad with a good attitude and electric pace, seems some of our fans really hate him and it's difficult to work out why.
Absolutely annoys me when fans of their club despise a player, especially a player like James.

Granted he's not good enough but as you say, he always applies himself and has been important in a few games.

He would be better suited at other clubs but there's no need for our own fans to be abusive towards him.

Mata isn't going anywhere, he literally signed a new contract this year. DDG has been our number one, pretty sure there would be some negative impact.

The rest I agree with you.

If we could use James as a make weight in a MF deal, it would be perfect.

Leicester - Ndidi
Brighton - Bissouma
West Ham - Rice

This is how i see it. We know Mata is untouchable so we've effectively got five wide players there before you even count Martial and James. I'd even argue that Mata, Pogba and Sancho can double up as backup for Bruno meaning Lingard becomes pretty extraneous as well. We're remarkably all of a sudden in the position of having more forwards than we can use (and goalkeepers) to the extent that it might give us problems bringing new players in and staying under the premier league limit. We've just got to move some players on before the window closes or we'll carry the problem on into the January window when presumably we'll be looking to upgrade midfield and right back.

I hope he goes for his own sake. He’s not good enough to be a regular starter here and I don’t think he ever will be. But he’s been a very good professional and has chipped in with important goals and performances during his time. I’m not sure why he’s hated so much, I’d rather have a player who gives 100% every time he pulls on the shirt, regardless of their ability, than somebody who doesn’t give a shit 99% of the time

Yeah, i know Mata wont be sold, ive said as much elsewhere. I mean if those players all did leave then it probably wouldnt effect us on the pitch. We're pretty overstaffed right now.

We are overstaffed. Mata to me has always been more about off the pitch than on it. We haven't got the characters we need to win and I suppose Ole sees Mata as one of them. But that has really changed now with the likes of CR7 and CL Varane.

Ronaldo would absolutely despise playing with Dan James. Imagine the strops
This is what I was thinking yesterday as I saw Lukaku doing the same thing (obviously not with our James ha).

CR7 and Bruno are really going to be nightmares with their whole arms flailing about that they do!

Wonder if West Ham would be interested in James and Lingard.

Might help drive down the price of Rice and would be excellent for us.

But I don't think I've ever seen a 3 player swap deal happen.

Dan James has given his all for us; it's clear that he has his limitations and is suited to hitting teams on the break. He cannot beat a man with skill, but he's working very hard and, as Ollie said, is tactically disciplined.
I can't understand some of these childish posts hating DJ. The problem for Dan James is we have moved on from the type of player he is; teams are going to sit deeper and deeper against us, that's why we needed the like if Sancho and Ronaldo. DJ has his time at OT and will do a great job at the likes of Leeds or Brighton.

I would love to see us try to tempt Brighton into a swap between Bossumo and James plus a few £££.

Perfectly sensible from our perspective. He’s a mid table Prem player, which to be fair already puts him above 99% of footballers, but he isn’t going to cut it at United. With Ronaldo coming in he isn’t getting much game time, so it’s best all round he goes.

I'd have to agree with you, unbelievable really. Signing three World-Class players. Just missing a DM and moving on some of the deadwood from been the greatest window.

I hope it's not Leeds because he'll suit Bielsa's team very nicely. Don't really give a shit about the rest.

Mata isn't on huge wages anymore + last year on deal. He's being groomed for ambassadorship after he retires, so he won't go anywhere.

Lingard we're just staring Westham down to see who budges first. Not a lot we can do beyond just using him as a rotation option this season and letting him go on a free next year.

Martial we're stuck with. We should ideally pay Bruno Martial's wages and get rid of Martial somehow but I don't see it happening.
If they really want to keep that Europa league spot they really should sign Lingard.

I think the summer we signed Nani, Anderson and Hargreaves still tops it for me. Not in terms of quality but excitement - we had quality all over, winning already and then add 2 of the best youngsters in the world and a, at the time, solid Hargreaves. Also, without disrespect to Ole, we had Fergie in charge who always made me feel 'safe' going into a season. So a combination of all that puts that summer top for me

As for James, I would have thought he'd learn a lot from watching Ronaldo as he also added an end product to his game. Admittedly James isn't exactly 18/19 but still

Yeah i can see how Nani, Anderson and Hargreaves would come ahead of Ronaldo, Sancho and Varane. Are you in Arkham Asylum by any chance?

It was exciting as feck though

we didn't often go down the overseas wonderkid route so to get two in one summer was just too much!

Does anyone actually hate him? He's a very inoffensive individual. It's that it's painfully clear he is nowhere near the standard required. In a team that sets up to his strengths he'll be decent, but we don't ever see that here. Wanting a player who isn't good enough to leave isn't the same as hating him.

Where the grass is greener.
Nothing against him, think he's a great lad, and in truth he'd put in the sort of crosses Ronaldo would love, but it makes sense to move him on, his level is currently much lower than we need. Sell with a buyback clause, put the money towards a midfielder.

We'd all rather get rid of Martial first but realistically James isn't getting a kick this season when everyone is fit. He should go and play football.
Martial is on 250k wage, it would be very hard to get rid of him

Yeah, that was a crazy summer. Hargreaves was exactly what we needed and Anderson was one of the best up and coming talents in the world.

In fairness we all thought Anderson was the next big Brazilian. *insert pun here* and Hargreaves injuries were appalling luck.

Our squad was already stacked with world class players and we were winning already. Had the greatest manager of all time in charge. Nani we were linked with, along with Hargreaves but Anderson came out the blue.

Adding 2 wonderkids who I heard non stop about from family in Portugal a whole year before we added them to our incredible team was a great feeling

Of course these 3 we got this summer are incredible but they aren't the adding to an incredible squad (they make it an incredible squad) and I'm still waiting to see what Ole can do. We knew what Fergie could do, Ole this is ultimately it - he has very little excuse now and I want him to succeed.

So as excited I am for these signings, I am still a bit nervous. I wasn't in the summer of 2017

Trawl through the match day bile and the James performance thread, you'll find them.

We’ve got Rashford, Pogba, Diallo, Elanga and Shoretire on the left plus Ronaldo in a worst case then we’ve got Sancho, Greenwood, Diallo and Pellestri on the right so the likes of Martial, James and Lingard are all pointless in keeping around and should be moved on and IF we could move all three on in the next few days then a quality defensive midfielder is very gettable.

Match day threads are full of in the moment emotion, to over analysis them is daft beyond belief. Don't really go in the performance threads so can't speak for those.
But you think you're on the pulse with how sections of our fans feel about him?

Yeah the match day thread is a not a good barometer. The player performance threads (bar the first half an hour or so after a match is over, as it's just an extension of the match day thread) echo my sentiment.

James should never have been here in the first place but if he does move then good luck to him. Hed be a good player for someone like Newcastle.
