Rather see big earners like Martial, Mata and Lingard go first.

James is a useful squad player. The other 3 could go tomorrow and it wouldn't affect us.
Mata signed a new contractthis summer and he’s no longer a big earner. Lingard’ son 100k pew. Significant but not exactly a big earner by today’s standards. Martial is the only big earner of those 3.

With the clause being quite specific on us not buying him back.

Actually he's a good sort and I wish a him well.

I'm happy enough for James to leave - either on loan or permanent.

He's a likeable, hard working winger but who, attacking wise, just doesn't produce the threat or end product a United attacking player should - similar, I guess, to the likes of Valencia and Park (although Park had a very specific team role that he performed well).

Given our other attacking options, I can't see James getting many starts when they're available and so it's best for his development if he leaves - on loan or permanent depends on how much potential Ole thinks he has, and how much a season or two on loan, and regular playing time, could improve his end product?

If we're not gonna get a good price I'd prefer a loan with us trying to sell him next summer.

It depends on what we consider a good price.

I’d say anything flirting near £20m would be a good bit of business.

If he leaves, leeds would be a good choice, could learn alot more and develop better under tutelage of bielsa. Could see him being a big success for them.

Personally id still martial left than james.

He's likeable, but not good enough. From a pure commercial pov, we need to sell him to fund a new midfielder. Nothing personal, its business.

I like him he’s a good option in the squad because nobody else does the water carrier winger in terms of pressing high and offering that threat in behind like he does.
I agree we need to keep him for games like playing city etc I think he’s harshly treated on here

Honestly think we should be cashing in on him whilst we can - forget this loan stuff. He'll never be worth £20m in a couple of years.

He runs at players a bit, to no effect and apparently that's enough to start him against City. My word

Agree with that. The further he gets from being first team player at United the more his value will drop, unless he has a massive breakout season on loan, which I don’t expect.

Between him, Martial and Lingard, I'd prefer we keep him to be on rotation, since the other two earn significantly more I'm assuming. And they are also likely to fetch the best fees. But if we get a good offer for him, we should sell.

His first couple of games were really good, and his first season was okay. But he seems to have lost confidence or regressed for some reason. Would be best for both parties.

I think Dan James has had his spell at Manchester United. He's had enough games to call himself a proper Manchester United player and can leave for his next adventure knowing he achieved something few footballers do, score in front of the Stretford End.

We are simply too stacked in the offense, and with Ronaldo of all people coming back, that timeslot is going to be significantly limited.

He's a proper nice lad, and I wish him all the best.

"Daniel James: Leeds just cannot quit him"

It feels like there are some words missing from this headline, unless this is some new meme way of speaking I don't know about.

I think there’s too much unrealistic expectation of what a squad players role is. Dan James is a good squad player. Is he more limited technically than others? Yes. But does he give the squad a unique option?. Yes.

I honestly don’t mind us selling him because he’s not vital but the way some are acting it’s as if he’s stealing a living. I take issue with that.

Yes Dan James has never had a good game against City

“Significantly limited” is an understatement.
1)up front - Ronaldo will play almost always, and there is also Cavani, Martial and Greenwood
2) On the right - we have Greenwood and Sancho (potentially also Ronaldo)
3) on the left - we have Pogba, Rashford, Sancho and Martial (potentially also Ronaldo)

For James to play, we need to simultaneously give rest to several players of higher calibre than James - and even then Lingard may play instead (unless he leaves).

Never thought James would make it at United. Yes, he is fast and he tracks back, but if that´s the qualities we need in specific games, just play Dalot instead.

He has to go. I've seen no footballing improvements from him. It's best for his career and our squad if he moves on.

I wish we had 3 other attackers and 2 midfielders who worked as hard as James or Fred. I’m not talking about quality on the ball. Just general intensity. We give teams far too much leeway in their buildup trying to draw them out and hit them whereas they are all over us as soon as our centre backs get it and look up. We concede way too many chances and are easy to play through. Too much individual skill and not enough organised drive and aggression throughout the team. We need to press a lot better and beat teams at their own game. Especially early on. We just hang on and wait for teams to eventually get tired and then recycle recycle and hope something comes off. We should automatically be playing on the front foot from the off like favourites.

Now Amad is injured for 6 weeks, someone else will have to leave to meet registration quotas. Not surprised to see the talk about James pick up again. The club won’t want to have to leave Amad unregistered, even if he won’t be available for a good month and a half.

Do U21 players have to be registered?

Yes as Amad isn't homegrown
Amad doesn’t have to be registered for PL, as he counts as an U21. Just UEFA are more restrictive on youth players as they have to have been with you for a couple of years to count as a U21.

Fair enough. If it's just for the league I don't see it being a massive issue anyway - he's out until October with the injury and was due to go out on loan so probably won't have seen many, if any minutes. If it also affects domestic cups and Europe that wouldn't be ideal.

I expect James, and possibly one or two more could still leave though.

Amad doesn’t have to be registered for PL, does he? Just UEFA.
I'm sure it's both. For UEFA you can have another group of players registered if they're homegrown also, which I think Mejbri will qualify for now as they've had to have trained with their club for 2 years under a certain age I think it is.

No U21s need to be registered with PL in your main 25. For UEFA, your U21s essentially have to have been with the club for two years in order to be allowed to be registered as a U21 (List B), otherwise they have to be registered in your main squad (List A).

I think we currently exactly on the limit in PL, but Amad takes over the limit for UEFA. If they want to register Amad, I could see Mata or Jones being left out I guess.

Happy that its permanent and not a loan. Interested in hearing price, hopefully we dont accept something stupid. If it was the other way around and we were interested in a mediocre player from Leeds it 30m minimum

Just sell him, this loan business for a player like him is pointless.
