30m is too good to be true

What exactly is happening this window? Sudden we bring in players we need and offload players we don't for good fees. Lingard and Jones next, please.

Everybody wins here. We get a good fee for a player we don’t need. Leeds get a player who will suit them down to a tee. James will get plenty of game time and should enjoy his football at Elland Road.
Yeah, I think so. I just hope we are not on the unlikely timeline where James delivers at Leeds and Sancho becomes an inexplicable megaflop!

Jesus fair fecks to the club for getting 30m for Dan James, some business that

Top guy Dan James, very likeable as a person clearly, always seemed to try his best but it was fairly evident early on he was never going cut it here, great move for him and best of luck on his future, hope he smashes it at Leeds !

Good deal for all parties if it goes through. Would be nice to see us selling shrewdly again as well as having improved on the buying front this window.

£30 million is a good fee for Dan James and he will be a good fit for Leeds. Hope he does well.

i know we all want the DM which we clearly need, but buying CR7 for 20m and selling James for 30m....

A week ago I would have bitten your hand off even if we didn’t bring a midfielder in...

Best of luck to him! Gave his all just not good enough for us, no shame in that.

The one weird thing is that if Amad was not injured, I doubt James would be sold. Now that Amad is staying, but will only be out for a couple of months, the club needs to move someone on to meet registration quotas.

That's a fantastic deal for us if it goes through. Fee is pretty much double what many would have expected us to achieve.

Wish James all the best. Seems like a nice lad and always gave his all.

@Ollie Derbyshire is cracking one off as we speak
Haha, been patiently waiting for you to tell me how many times he managed to do anything against the tank.

Anyway, it was never against him personally, just no need for us to pick him purely on ”work rate”. We should be picking our team for us not worrying about anyone else.

£30m is a great price but it really does boggle the mind as to why he started at the weekend then ahead of players we are certain we're keeping or more unsure of like Lingard. If that was really his last chance that's also a bit odd that we're making decisions like that about players so late on.

Well done @Fridge chutney. You called the £30m fee and most posters (including myself actually) thought that number was quite a way off.

Agreed.

James: £30M
Lingard: £35M
Pereira: £25 M
Total: £90M

That would fund Declan Rice for £60M and we'd have enough leftover for Trippier.
James: £9-12 million
Lingard: £15-20 million
Pereira: £5-8 million
30m for James

I guaran-damn-ty you that no one will ever pay that for him. Dare to dream!
Don't think we will make much of a profit. We signed him when it was thought he could be pretty special. I would say he now seems like he'll be a below average PL winger.
Chris Gunter is the record cap holder for Wales, kinda puts into perspective what standard you need to be to get a Welsh cap.

I agree though, 15-20 million for me, we won't get any more though.

Good luck. No ill feeling whatsoever towards the kid, always gave his all but not quite cut out for the very top level. Leeds may suit him very well.

Or maybe bluff Leeds into thinking that we ain't messing around when we say that he is in the plans.

I can only assume the last minute Ronaldo deal has had an impact on it.

Shirt numbers have already been allocated for the season can’t be altered now, unless it’s special circumstances.
I think the club will appeal to the PL for an exemption, which is logical since there is a vacant number that is 'wanted' by a current player in the name of Cavani.

Yesterday he was a Manchester United player and the player who the manager, rightly or wrong, thought was best suited for the tactical situation or who had the best fitness level needed. I don't really think it needs much overthinking

I want him to do well, even if it's for Leeds. One of the most likeable guys we have had in our squad in the recent years. Genuinely want him to do well, just not at the level that we regret selling him. £30m is a great fee. Can't remember the last time we made a profit on a fringe player.

Because if he scored it would add a few million to his price

Brilliant deal for United if we can get 25-30m for him initial fee plus 5m in add-ons

Now we have to see if they will invest that money right away back into the squad
