Nothing on message boards or social media to suggest anything. He's ahead of Camavinga in his development so would have made more sense to go all out for him
Tchouameni is also the profile we need.

Camavinga is a discount Pogba right now.

I dont quite see it for them when the alternative is to get a PL experienced player that knows the team and is 100% proven he works for it
But that player seems to be reluctant to go back there, I think that's the biggest issue, not the fee.

But Gazers made an exception for Ronaldo before they decided to sell James. So monies still there to buy a DM.
Sure they have near unlimited money, but that doesn't mean that there's no budget they would like to remain in.
Ronaldo was an exceptional opportunity they were willing to let go of their budget for, maybe with the fact that James could be sold/had interest in the back of their mind. It's not like the Leeds link came out of nowhere.

It won't surprise me if we get someone for that big hole in midfield.

At least we know it’ll be just up to if we want to spend the money or not
I guess there is the possibility that either team's name is being used to jack up the price for the other. Would make sense that Nuno wants him.

I admire your optimism. Ronaldo was an opportunity. James then followed because we have ronaldo. It will cancel some of Ronaldo’s costs.
We are at peak Glazer net spend now
I’d be surprised unless we can drag out a loan from somebody

Yet statistically Oles start is up there with them, bar one thing; silverware.
It's an accurate point but that's what being a Utd coach/manager is measured by.

I'm not here to denigrate him just to answer the question as to why some players will choose those 3 clubs over us. Money is clearly an influencing factor with City and Chelsea but it has been for a number of years. Klopp doesn't tend to go for marquee signings rather who fits his system. Liverpool are far more like Utd without the spend but Klopp has brought a verve back to Liverpool with the addition of a UCL and PL title.
What swings it for a lot is the gravitas the coaches hold, Utd should be up there but we really need to win something just as SAF's first FA cup was a springboard to further success

That’s the mindset of any well run club. It’s why we would rather wait a year for Sancho than go for someone like a Sarr. You don’t buy players just because they might be slightly better than what you have. We did that under LVG and it was a mess.
Matic is going to be gone in next season anyway. At worst, he'll be a replacement for Matic as 3rd choice midfielder. At best he could challenge McFred for the starting position.

While I agree, buy back clauses aren't a bad idea, I definitely would have brought bavk Memphis. Not a chance, I think we actually did have a buy back for him anyway and chose not to.
That’s fair enough, glad we agree on the central point.

We had a buyback clause for Memphis for 4 years for 35M if I'm not mistaken, we just choose not to activate it.

Of course the players must agree to go back which I don't think he would have.
Fair point, a buy back on angel gomes would be nice security as another example.

Arsenal blocked his transfer to Everton and then stopped him from training. Am I getting that right?
That's correct - he wasn't happy, so posted something on Instagram which is probably why he's not training with the first team
Why did they block it for when he’s hardly played?
I'd assume they either want a fee or they see Everton as a rival. For some strange reason they turned down £20m for him last summer from Wolves
