But the James transfer/wages must have freed some funds up
I think they were expecting one or two sales this summer anyway, and his wages are probably not even a fifth of what Ronaldo is taking.

At some point fans have to realise we are a business that needs to be stable and not keep demanding beyond a reasonable point -we have clearly done a lot this summer in terms of both outlay and wages. If we start haemorrhaging money all that is going to happen is the owners will shut down future windows when new problems may have materialised.

I realise we all probably want a midfielder but either Ole has different priorities, or the right one wasn't available. The squad is going to constantly evolve, if it isn't getting done this summer I'm sure it will in future windows.

There's being offered him earlier in the window and now. Two differences:

- we've added Ronnie and should really add the CDM to maximise our chances whilst he's here
- we've recouped some money and wages from James

Yeah that is a very good point but the club clearly have made their mind up on this and aren't budging

We all love United
I’ve seen his wages are between 200-300K a week. To take over the whole of that wages for Atletico is absolutely mental. Glad we walked

Whitwell tweeted that we were offered him earlier in the window but didn't bite which can't quite understand at all
Doesn't surprise me at all.
How many times have we heard "looking at a Midfielder, but it all depends if Pogba leaves"....
Which to me suggests that Solskjaer/Coaches/Club are perfectly happy with a pool of Mata, Matic & McFred, and do not consider it necessary to try to improve upon them.

Yeah that is supposed to be another reason why the Grealish thing also never materialised

Saul is very versatile and had played as right midfield in 442, CB, any position in midfield. He's a good additional for Chelsea's squad if they sign him because he can cover lot of areas.

Confused why Chelsea let Gilmour go and now sweating over Saul to sign.

Why is this guy happy to go to you guys and sit on the bench? He can do the same thing at Atletico.
If he is in form, he will play. Tuchel does not sit people out like what has happened to DvB. We use Jorginho, Kovacic, and Kante\. We really need another for the rotation. Tuchel has the midfield sprinting every game. Once he settles in, he will see gametime.

Didn't he bench Tammy? Yeah that's what happened to de beek. Players who are better than him are playing.

An in form Saul is also a much bigger goal threat than Kovacic. Every time Kova shoots the ball seems to go into row Z.

So if we are playing in one of the many matches where we have 80% of the ball and the opponent is sitting deep in their half, having a midfielder who can shoot from distance is much needed.

Tammy played for Tuchel, but yes he did start Werner ahead of him after that. I am not sure what happened between them. Not really the same for our midfield. We had to have Trevor come on to cover midfield at Anfield.

Yeah, de beek also played for Ole. Not so what sure what you meant by " Tuchel does not sit people out like what has happened to DvB "

Your fans are asking why he never gets any game time. Much the same as our fans asked about Tammy. The situations are not the same, we need another midfield player, Saul could be that person, he could also bust and live on the bench.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

He sits out for a reason.

Chelsea drop/rest players too... and sell them off for peanuts and buy them back for fortunes

Or they saw the right midfield and CB as more of a priority to improve.

I would agree with that.

well fuk me....Chelsea are paying a 5m euro loan fee for Saul. Just can't understand the logic behind not going a deal that is quite so simple and small in fees

I’m a little annoyed by this, to be honest. He was clearly available and would have improved our midfield.

I would like to know what wages we are paying on this loan. I hope it is not ridiculous.

He wouldn't have improved our midfield because he would have replaced either Pogba or Bruno. We need someone who can play with them and Saul definitely isn't that player

Literally did the same to Tammy.
I regret bringing VdB into this conversation. It was wrong on my part because I honestly do not know the situation. I always thought he was a decent player at Ajax.

He’s a central midfielder and will play for Chelsea in the two. He could have done that here, probably alongside McTominay. He’s better than all of McTominay, Fred and Matic, so yes, he would have improved us.

Chelsea having a very good window alongside United (although I think they've missed a trick not signing a DM).

Sometimes our fans go on about Pogba and Bruno as they are GOAT. Bruno has been poor in the last two games and Pogba will have his usual bad patch soon.

He is not what we need and we already have players who can do a job in midfield.
But we need more than that what Saul - especially his current version - is not.

I could say the same about fans go on about player that they haven't seen play and immediately assume that they are better than what we have. Saul isn't what we need. It's quite simple why we didn't go for him when Pogba decided to stay. Pogba is levels above current Saul

Everyone is saying the same. Ole wants Rice and nobody else. Not even entertaining the thought of sneaky bids or loans. He is prepared to wait.

I suppose we will just have to hope that we can get McTominay back soon and Fred/Matic/VDB can cobble some form together. (VDB could still be the CDM we need)

We really cannot complain about a transfer window that included Sancho, Varane and RONALDO.
